there's software out there you can download to recover deleted files. if it's not been too too long ago, you may be able to recover some if not all of your work.

We do have a backup server running on my machine which makes a duplicate of the HD at 4:30am every day, but it over-writes the previous version every time it does this. As luck would have it, those files corrupted during a server migration the day before.
Go figure, but thanks for the advice anyhoo. I had DVD backups dating a month prior to my stupidity, and that let me salvage some things, but all I have of the above is flattened files.
