Same here.
People always talk about needing to understand the jokes, or humor in one of these kinds of shows, but it's not even about that.
Although I mainly just liked Azumanga Daioh and Minami-ke, I thought Lucky Star was mediocre, but damn good trolling material.

Actually I haven't seen it.
So I have Macross (the original) downloading right now and about 50 billion things to watch this summer. woo.
I don't need to look, there are already 20 reasons from season 1 why I hate Suzaku. It's like, instead of more interesting scenes with Zero and Nunally, we get like 3-5 mins (maybe not as long as that, but it felt like an eternity) of Suzaku launching his Knightmare like we've seen dozens of times before, with long winded explanations on everything. Most boring part of the episode.Originally Posted by Kaylia

Azumanga, Minami-ke, Lucky star and Ichigo Mashimaro were all pretty good in their own way imo. I can't say I enjoyed one more than other. Those 4 are the only "slice of life" I watched I think. Yotsubato manga was pretty good too.
I know nothing about Macross, but I have the first two frontier episodes downloaded. After seeing a comment in this thread I went and read there have been 1 or 2 other seasons of Macross, but they're pretty old. Should I download the older seasons and watch those first? Or will it have basically no effect on how much I like frontier? Or are the older series really good and I should just watch them anyway?
No. I don't think it's necessary, even if the plot is related to some extent. You could watch Macross Plus movie I guess since it was pretty damn popular, but no point really.Originally Posted by Eaglestrike
Macross Zero is a nice eye candy tho (6 ep only). Story was okay, but it's probably worth to watch even if it's only for the animation.
Just go watch the Macross: Do you remember love movie ;o
Macross 7 is fucking horrible.
It combined 2 of my most hated protagonist type in an action series.
1. A hero who doesn't like killing/fighting.
2. A hero who tries to solve problem by using idiotic alternative method (in his case...singing)
Combine that with like 30 fucking episode where he cycles the same goddamn song over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over, you're in for a really, boring if not annoying seasons.
Not to mention the character has a depth of a fucking dog piss puddle, but maybe that's because I got sick of it by the 5th episode and just skip around for the next few episodes without actually watching it.
I would not recommend it to anyone, then again a lot of people like anime I deem as absolute crap, so your mileage may vary I guess.
I don't think you really need to watch older macross series for frontier, since at the beginning of every episodes, they have like 1-2 mins explaining the lore of the setting, but if "Do you remember love?" movie is a good place to get the overall lore of the series...and you can kinda draw the parallel between the characters.
The original series have some of the scenes redone in macross frontier, like the part in second ep where alto tried to save lanka was a direct homage to the original.
LISTEN TO MY SONG!
Yeah, I don't recommend M7 either. The original series was entertaining, Macross Plus OVAs were pretty good too. I enjoyed Macross 2 (which is not canon, alternate timeline/universe type of deal), mainly because it had nice mech designs.

Or you can just watch the ending sequence of R2
Clamp or not, they don't make loli that flat these days.
Posting this here because I know some people are Baccano fans.
Baccano 14, DVD only special [BSS]

Damn Aers, I just saw that and was coming here to post it. I loved Baccano, can't wait for more!
Suzaku is a real prick, but I find it hard to hold it against him because when he's around there's like a 33% chance Lloyd will show up and make everything allright again.

GAH! i cant stop watchin Minami-ke!!! HALP!
xD
only up to ep 8 though... kinda saddens me that its only 13 episodes long.... reminds me a lot of Azumanga lol :D
havent seen Ichigo Mashimaro yet though lol but i kinda like slice of life anime they're pretty entertaining and yes, their unpredictable nature is very nice
any other slice of life anime that are good? thats not made by Kyoani(those are kinda slice of life, Kanon, Air, Haruhi, etc.)?![]()
Thanks Aers, didnt know it was out.
Kanon, Air and Haruhi are romance, harem, School, drama..etc, but not slice of life afaik. Not that any of those definitions are absolute.Originally Posted by Lordshin
There is 2x12 episode of minimi-ke if you didnt realize by now. Can give ichigo mashimaro a shot after, I think it's enjoyable.
