Re: Anime Thread. [Prob not 56k safe]

The second season of Code Geass has been quite a let down. It's shaping up to be one of those series that would be been better off being ~36 instead of ~56 episodes long.

I kinda agree about Code geass episode being weak in overall. School comedy just doesnt work well after last season events. The last 4 minutes however were really great. I'm not a big fan of Shirley usually, but I thought the scene was well done. Orange's geass will add a nice twist as well, will give a meaning to many scenes that were "erased" by the emperor.

Sadly, preview didnt look that nice

There's been one or two decent battles and a few GEASS TWISTS! Build some substance (not just filler) before you introduce some random ass plot twist. This is starting to get stupid.

I dunno about you guys, but it seems to me like S2 has been playing out similarly to S1. The pacing is pretty much the same, but I understand why people think it's weird. I think the whole reason they reset the show was to try to return the school comedy factor, but it seems they're building up on something. As long as it progresses better than it has so far and ends well I think most of us will be able to overlook the rather lackluster first half (which by most standards isn't even that bad).

And with the twist, it seems like things could get a lot more interesting. Also,

I agree with you. I think a lot of that has to do with them trying to make Code Geass mainstream (note the timeslot change from past midnight on Thursdays to afternoon Sundays), so they're reusing first season themes to first-time viewers. The problem is that for hardcore viewers, some of the plot points become a bit redundant. Overall I still enjoyed the series very much.

The second half of the series should still be pretty epic.

    It's just annoying I guess.

This show just has so much annoying filler parts that could be whittled away to make a much better show in 75% of the episodes. Who really watches CG for the school parts? I quit watching CG season 1 half way because I thought it was boring. Then, I caught up new the end and thought it was great. I'm getting bored with this season the same I did with the first. Maybe I'm asking too much. I'm sure the series will end tremendously and I'll keep watching it.

I know that Gundam 00 season 2 starts with CG ends, so I'm waiting for that.

You'll be surprised. One of the reasons Geass is so successful is that it's not a one-dimensional show, so it has fans of many different genres watching it.

I enjoy the school life episodes, as long as they don't happen too often. They're a pretty nice chanage of pace and they're very funny (to me at least).

Is it my imagination, or is Z/Gino shorter in his school uniform than in his KOR suit?

Who knows. All the characters have long legs are long due to CLAMP designs. I swear, at times CLAM designs are great for me to look at, and aothers... ugh.

As far as a rehash of the story, it really is. Notice they are bringing back the train scene basically as Orange-kun (I think) is dropping to his knees right in front of Lelouch (who is wearing the EXACT SAME OUTFIT AS THE EPISODE WITH MAO) and such. Orange-kun seems to be another side-villain as Mao was. Wonder how long he'll be around.

Also, since Shirley's memories have returned, yet she's out on a date with Lulu, she's probably just playing along as if she doesn't remember anything since Suzaku is there and all. Her memories about him are back too. I swear to god though, if Lelouch and Shirley have another graveyard scene in the rain, and he geasses her again (assuming he can), I'll scream and seriously drop the series. That and it sucks how Shirley seems to be getting all of these negative things done to her, like this while Kallen only gets POW'd (had her family fucked with too, but blah.) D: Poor Shirley.

If that spoiler from the JP website is true, that's pretty stupid, lol.

I enjoyed episode 12. I like the school life stuff, I wish Bleach had more of it. Epic fights and twists are nice, but really...there were twists and such in episode 12 too, lol. I agree with an above poster that said CG does well because it's not one-dimensional, I know I like that about it, it brings a tad bit more realism to the show, even if it's a total fantasy world. Lelouch having to focus on his school life is a big part of his issues in getting Nunnally back and winning his overall war and it'd be poor story-telling (imo) if they just ignored that part of things. He needs to keep his identity as Zero a secret, or he will pretty much lose any chance he has left to win in the end semi-logically within the set universe, at least until he has a bigger support structure.

In regards to Shirley, it's also possible that she realizes that Lelouch does care for her, and that's why he made her forget the bad things that happened to her, so that she does choose to stick by Lelouch, I hope it doesn't get her killed though, that'd be a bad twist in my book.

I agree with most of it. The "reset" was needed to continue to offer a school comedy, and I personally thought it was a good twist. My biggest issue right now is that emotional episode are lacking this season, they are starting to build something, then drop it halfway and go back to comedy before accomplishing anything real with the character we care about. There is something not satisfying about it. I have nothing against comedy part themselves, but the ratio and placement in season 2.

The show is far from horrible, but I thought the first season was accomplishing more and faster. With the 6-7 new important characters in 11 episodes, the chinese federations event and VV, the character's development and plot become way to diluted.

This is true. Last year I remember episodes like the Kallen's mother episode was very emotional, as well as the "C.C's name" episode, and this year the closest thing to that is when Tianxi remembers Xingke's promise and kept calling for him...

I suppose we'll probably see something tragic with Shirley so that should be quite emotional

I thought that part where Lelouch was about to use refrain and Karen stopped him was like the only "memorable" emotional sequence.

I liked episode 7 (or 8 ), when Lelouch wanted to give up on Zero, but that's probably the only scene that had emotional character development for me. Shirley episode next week has some potential, I hope it will be good. However, the preview looked kinda boring...they better not ignore the last 2minutes like they are doing a lot recently. They always have a shocking plot twist, but never follow up with it.

I personally hate Tiangxi and Xingke. They don't fit in well, and they bring nothing (or little) to the story. Their relationship is creepy too.
