not sure if thats a bad thing though. just seemed odd to me.
Code Geass R2 18, easily the best episode so far.

This episode of Code Geass reminded me of Gundam Seed...and it's not a good thing. Every important characters get 10 seconds worth of screen time, but none of them do anything. I seriously hate pointless mecha fight, they should leave them for anime like TTGL. Karen's new knightmare was badass tho.

Watched Tsukaima 4-5 tonight. Both episodes were kinda funny, but they need to stop the discussion about breast size that pop up every episodes. >_>

Also, Macross Frontier's music just gets better and better. Going to have the best OST this year by far. Though it needs more Sheryl, Ranka is getting annoying.

FLEIA is a reference to Freyja. In Nordic mythology, when individuals died in battle, the Valkyries carried half the souls to Odin's hall, Valhalla and the other half to the plains of Fólkvangr, specifically to the Freyja's hall, Sessrumnir. This definitely supports the theory they are not dead, merely transported.
Actually, the exact same thing happen in Season 1 already, giant explosion that transported Suzaku, Lelouch, Euphie, and Kallen. In fact, it happened at the end of episode 18 of R1 (coincidence?).
It didn't wash them ashore, they woke up in the middle of the island. Either way, they were no where near an island before hand. Doesn't invalidate FLEIA being a reference to Freyja, or how it relates to Folkvangr and Sessrumnir parts of the bomb.
I thought V.V. teleported them to the island during that episode (I don't think they ever explained it, so it's not clear anyway)
Right now I've heard 3 different possible explanations (other than yours):
