Meh, I don't think every story needs a OMGWTF plot twist. When it happens too much (or just goes wrong) you end up wondering what the shit is going on (hi, CG). Character progression I can somewhat agree with, but I honestly feel like Jil grew as a character. From a useless, daydreamer type character to something of an actual hero. People's past and motivations weren't the focus though, ultimately their goals were put aside because climbing the tower was actually more important. I thought that aspect was done fine. It felt like how it would in (not real life but...) an MMO or something. You usually don't know squat about the people you party with, but you can still enjoy your time with them and, given enough time even care about them.
Also, watch episode 9, it was pretty funny as well. I think it was episode 9, when Kaiyaa (sp?) was playing the videogame of the show they're in.

Spoiler: show
The fact that To LoveRu is even on that list makes me sad. People actually watch that shit?
Yes, lots of people... I don't understand it either.
One of my friends keeps trying to get me to watch it, but I read some of the manga and watched the first episode.
Looks like shit to me no matter what angle I'm looking at it from.
But hey, glad some people can enjoy it even though I definitely don't.
Golgo regularly beats Geass on ratings, this is the only week Geass has even beat Golgo.
Golgo airs at 3 am in the morning on a thursday, Geass airs at 5 PM on a Sunday.
Please note these are TV ratings for the Kanto region of Japan (ie, where Tokyo is) and can only include channels that have a region-wide broadcast; a lot of anime airs on independent channels that are never measured.
Hey, don't get me wrong... I can enjoy ecchi anime with little-to no substance.
Hell, I was even able to enjoy Girls Bravo.
I just feel like if you're going to do a retarded ecchi anime, at least do it kinda like that.
I probably wouldn't put too much stock on TV ratings to determine popularity.
If you're talking about Otaku popularity and not just general population, DVD sales is probably the best way to go.

(Strike Witches NES game?)
ToLoveRU manga is awesome, the anime hardly used any of the manga, just the basis of the story.
