Can't believe I never watched this in the past but I'm really enjoying Great Teacher Onizuka... I heard about it many many times but I guess I just never decided to watch it until yesterday.

    Good shit though.

I liked it more for what little spear fighting there was and then the general relationships between the characters. The mystical elements they tried to throw in kind of suck and the whole cycle of the water god/beast/whatever makes zero practical sense. 7/10 for me, if a scale means anything.

Not when there is only one element on your scale.

Well, animation was solid throughout, but the CG armies and stuff seemed a bit out of place in comparison. Just thought the best stuff was usually the fight scenes both for quality and choreography. Music wasn't bad, but not memorable. Didn't go too much into the story because I didn't wanna spoil, but it's not hard to get the general premise after the first couple episodes. I figure 7/10 conveys my opinion of it as an above average series, but you're not really missing out on anything revolutionary to the genre if you pass it up.

Anyway, my point was that most female protgonist who have magical power are tsunderer lately, and it's getting old. You don't have to read more in my post than this..it was just a random comment.
nothing really against your comment, it's just that i thought there are some god girl kind of show im missing since i don't really hate the genre if it's done tastefully (read: not whoring ecchi), with Suzumiya Haruhi no Yuutsu being the exemplar of the genre.

As for tsundere comment, I think all female protagonist in general are really just gravitating into it since it obviously sells, can't say I'm all that psyched about it though, tsundere's been dull for me since kugimiya's 2nd or 3rd iteration of the same goddamn character.

Yandere in the other hand, can't get enough of those, need more series with KY retards' head ended up in a bag on a nice boat.

I was just nitpicking your wording. Kinda figured you were saying it was above average

Quite frankly, I don't mind seeing rehash of the same concept (if I enjoyed it once, I will enjoy it twice), but my favorite anime will always be the one that innovate or try something completely different. There isn't hundred of character archetype, but too many animes try to copy something that was already done, instead of comming up with something refreshing.

I don't think you're missing any particular anime that you don't know about. I was simply talking about "normal guy meets magic girl" genre, which is pretty vague.

I realizes that the concept of originality in anime died a long time ago, at this point it's just a matter of arranging existing archetype of characters on a cliche plot and making it somewhat interesting.

Frankly, too much series just fails at this and focus on whoring either moe or ecchi.

Today I went to barne's and noble manga section, and spent the next 2 hours grabbing a manga for a read then returning over half of them 1/3-1/4 of the way in out of lack of interest. I feel empty inside, sadly not because my lack of social life or wasting 2 hours of my life reading manga...and that's kind of a bad thing considering I didn't even touch naruto, bleach, or one piece.

When I think that most of those shit are gonna be next season's lineup, I feel really, really sad.

Oh well, as long as Gainax's still in business, I suppose I can at least expect another 5-6 epic mech series within my lifetime.

Yeah...that's my take on it as well, and sadly, thing won't change anytime soon. As long ecchi/moe is selling, there will be more of it, and less attempt at something new.

I'm taking back some of the nice thing I said about Kannagi earlier (just watched episode 3 and 4). The more it progress, the more it turns into a school harem anime, and it's not a good thing. Kannagi and Jin are still funny, but the school setting is starting to annoy me.

Jun already knows who he likes, I never got the harem feel in the manga.

Well, it's the impression I got after watching the 4th episode, when they added a 3rd girl who is going to compete for Jin.

I've no clue where this series is going, but there is plenty of room left to change my opinion again. I was simply hoping they would keep it down to Nagi and Jin's childhood friend.

Nagi, Tsugumi and Zange/Hakua were the girls I was talking about. No clue if Nagi has romantic interest in Jun or not, but she is still around teasing him, and both will be involved in many situation that make it look this way.

Anyway, I don't really care why they love him, a love triangle almost always hurt characters development [in anime]. The guy won't be able to take any decision because they have to drag this for 24 episodes (and more) and nothing will ever change. It get old quick.

    [edit]
When I look back at the list of romantic comedy I enjoyed, none of them had love triangle, and if they did, it didn't stop the progress.

I don't really see the harem aspect, to Nagi and Zange they have more important things to worry about than Jin's love intereste. Them (both or one) teasing him isn't really important either. The dynamics between Jin and Nagi and is still great. It hasn't really turned into a school harem/love triangle, cause I don't think Jin has to decide between one girl or another (or he could just be like Makoto and fuck everything that walks). Either way, it's still to early to tell.

Here is a short list of the series I enjoyed the most in the last few years. With a few exception in the comedy category, I think they were good animes that most people should enjoy.

Action (and other anime heavy on plot)
    -Baccanno!
    -Death Note
    -Code Geass
    -Macross Frontier
    -Gurrann Lagann
    -Dennou Coil
    -Last Exile

    Comedy/Romantic comedy/romance
    -Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei
    -Excel Saga
    -Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya
    -hayate no gotoku
    -Seto no hanayome
    -School Rumble
-Spice and wolf (you can't hate this one..i think)
    -Tsukuyomi Moonphase
-Oh! Edo rocket (I think I'm the only person who watched this anime, but it was well done >_>)

    Slice of life
    -Bamboo Blade
    -Minami-ke (relisting it anyway)
    -Lucky star
    -Ichigo Mashimaro

    Depressing stuff
    -EF: Tales of memories
    -Elfen Lied
    -Welcome to the NHK
    -Air
    -Shigofumi
Ok! Now we have something here!

Even though I've seen most of the stuff you've listed, there seems to be enough material here listed to keep me interested.

I appreciate all the other suggestions as well... I kinda laughed at the one post that was asking if I had seen Gurren/FMA/Mai Series... that is the stuff I like which is why I've seen it all. I haven't been keeping on the up and up lately so I need to watch something that isn't obvious to the average animu watcher

Out of the norm anime (sorry for old/reposts):
    * Ouran Highschool Host Club: lulz with a reverse trap and too many rich pretty boys.

    * The Wallflower/Yamato Nadesico Shichihenge: more lulz with a girl that cant stand being around beautiful things and 4 pretty boys trying to turn she who is feared by everyone into a lady.

    * Honey and Clover I/II: slice of life'ish, funny situations with college young adults, no real adult themes, dramatic at moments, lulz in others

Ouran Host Club is funny as hell, hope they make a second season when the manga gets far enough.

How can you say upcoming anime sucks? We have a true to manga remake of Full Metal Alchemist and 2nd season of Spice and Wolf coming up at the least.

That makes 2 potentially interesting/epic series out of how many coming out on next few season?

I don't doubt that there will good series coming up, it's just not nearly in the same volume of other shit series
