I'll start caring about Haruhi Season two when I find the first episode to download. Until then, I couldn't give a shit.

I liked Haruhi, but the hype surrounding it pisses me off. I don't understand why it's the only anime that get attention, when it's not really better than many others series.

I don't think it's the only anime that get attention. Just look at some of the popular anime recently, Code Geass, Macross Frontier, Gurren Lagann, Gundam 00, etc etc. I think they're all arguably as popular if not more popular.

Their second season being years overdue probably adds to the attention that it gets.

Well, I was mostly talking about non-anime fan.

I can understand why those people would enjoy animes with a lot of actions (everyone love explosion), but Haruhi is pretty much your normal slice of life/school comedy/romance.

Yeah, but Hare Hare Yukai became an EXTREMELY popular dance, and then the characters are also very likable, so that's also apart of it. It's not just the show, but all aspects apart of it.

To be honest, I always found that kind of irritating as well.

I think it also made Haruhi's VA a lot more popular in her line of work. The game for the Nintendo Wii was kind of pushing it though, lol.

This anime had a decent production quality, there is no doubt about it. My irritation come from how it's perceived by the non-anime fan versus the "conventional" anime.

If Haruhi is great, I have hard time to believe everything else is "shit". The difference isn't that great between this show, and many other animes, especially when you consider that people were sold to this series a long time before the last 2 episodes.

I started Yotsuba&! a while ago, but stopped reading around 28 because they were hard to find. I ended up reading the rest today (up to 59) and damn...I love this manga.

    [edit]
And dammit, I need to find a good sig that isnt 2 mb large. I don't know what to use.

Fuck you all, I'm in it for Yuki, and S2 main arc is supposed to be Dissapearance of Suzumiya Haruhi which is pretty heavily Yuki based (and another stab at Asakura Ryouko...literally)

But yeah, in retrospect now, I wish SHAFT would have done Haruhi, it'd make Kyon's inner monologue that much more interesting, but most importantly, the latter seasons won't be sidetracked by other projects...

SHAFT's haruhi would caught up to the novel about 2 season ago I'd imagine.

Wait, I don't think Haruhi is *that* well known among non-anime fans. Otherwise its DVDs would sell a lot better than they're selling now.

When I think of Haruhi's attention, I think of Haruhi fanboys, which are mostly extreme otakus (kinda like Lucky Star's audience).

By "non-anime fan", I'm talking about internet nerds. The comment "I loved haruhi, even if I don't like animes" seemed to be pretty common. It's not impossible my impression are off, but with the large amount of Haruhi avatar, gif and refence, I think there is some truth behind it.

I never felt that way about Lucky Star. People enjoy it as a slice of life, but I rarely see extreme reactions from them. Maybe I just don't hang at the right place for anime tho.

Always loved that character archetype. Bookworms ftw.

You would rather SHAFT do Haruhi than KyoAni? Are you on crack?

Besides, people have been waiting on next season of Full Metal Panic! from KyoAni way longer than Haruhi - although they probably won't do a 4th season until the current arc in the novels finishes, it's been ongoing for like 6 or 7 novels now...

I remember watching Haruhi when it's anime adaptation first came out.

In my opinion, I think Haruhi was just too damn confusing, almost everyone has watched it but only like 10% of the people get what it's about. I remember I had no clue what the hell it was about when I first watched it myself. I saw the first episode and I was like "okay, it's about some high school kids doing a random movie project" and it was funny. Then there's an episode where they go to a stupid mansion and it kind of felt even more damn random than the first episode (don't get me wrong, I <3 Mikuru lol)

I think the character design was great and the music/animation was awesome on top of being funny when it wanted to be. My favorite episode was the giant video game war between the PC Club and the S.O.S Brigade but then you sent back to the stupid episodes where they spend an entire day going to fight some giant bug inside a computer (I can't roughly remember, something about a missing boyfriend?) just kind of makes you go what the hell, where is my comedy?

Haruhi probably had some deeper meaning to it but I think it was either:

    a) explained so poorly or in a fashion that was too unappealing

    or

    b) just didn't fit in with the constant change of genre (one episode its comedy then random then some giant plot jump and back to the comedy)

It was too random for my tastes but I guess it got so over-hyped people just made it such an awesome anime when it really wasn't nothing special.

I've been watching maria holic, between that and SZS, i thought shaft would do a more interesting take on Kyon's inner monologue, which has quite a bit interesting thing going around, and seem to be cut off a good bit in the anime from the novel version.

And I do want the new FMP, if nothing else for the ARX-8 Laevateinn, and I just want Sousuke to just murder the fuck out of Leonard.

I think KyoAni just like targetting people that already have exposure to the specific series they're adapting (Looking their other series like Clannad, Kanon, etc) so unless you read the novel, you won't quite get the whole idea from some of the episodes/scenes. For starter, the asahina mikuru no bouken would pretty much whoosh anyone that hasn't watched the series first time around, or read the novel, but it was aired first, so I'd imagine they expect most of the following to have some sort of exposure before even starting the series.

Read the novel though, you'd appreciate the anime a bit more just on how well they adapted it, and that it'd give you a better grasp of the overall background.

Also, finally watched Paradox Spiral, it was really good, best movie yet, and I think the only thing that could top it would probably be the final movie.

    Spoiler: show
<3 Yandere Shiki stabbing the pillow while complaining about Mikiya ditching her to go driver's ed, and her fucking fake arm being used as a compartment for her second knife was pretty fucking epic, I fucking thought "fuck yeah robocop" when she did that. Touko is also pretty amazing in this episode, and Tsundere Azaka being pissed when Mikiya honestly consider if he'd still hit Shiki if he was a dude was also pretty hillarious. Overall, the action sequences were pretty awesome, though as far as the storytelling goes, I thought it was pretty good, but I've read a some translation of the novel, so I actually know what's going on even though they really fuck up some of the order, but it fits the theme of the episode, even though it's somewhat confusing since you had Tomoe's PoV, Mikiya's PoV, before finally piecing everything together for the climax.

PS: The VA for Tomoe is Simon's VA, the episode's title was Spiral Paradox, and Spiral was a recurring theme for the entire episode, coincidence? I FUCKING THINK NOT

Yeah I knew the visual novels came before-hand and I assume they explained it much better. I think it was just kind of hard to cram all of that into 12 episodes. They also couldn't start it heavy either and it had to take a few episodes to introduce the characters and get the audience entertained, etc. I might go read the novels, I'm kind of curious now that I think about it. : p

    Haruhi isn't a visual novel.

Also, I'd expect KyoAni's next project will be Little Busters.

KyoAni just produces it, the novel publisher and their parent companies (Sony, Aniplex, etc) have alot of say in what does and doesn't get animated.

Sometimes mangaka don't even know their work is getting animated until it's been decided.

The company that owns/publishes Newtype owns Haruhi, KyoAni doesn't really influence what goes into the magazine.
