I'm looking for something that's way over the top, like way out of the bounds of reality but still done well enough to look cool and not just flat-out dumb.


I guess I could say that I'm looking for something that would pretty-much only look good if it were animated.
I could see a scene like the one you posted being done in a life-action movie and looking really nice but if you tried to do the one I posted or something like the TTGL final fight in a movie it would just look dumb.

The music in this video was awesome. I think that's what make the fight so great. Fight itself was decent (pretty cool idea), but the animation wasn't that great. Make me want to watch this anime...should I?

I didn't really like the fight overall. I guess without context or some knowledge or what is going on its hard to appreciate that style of fighting/animation. I saw some nice movements, but overall the animation was lacking. A lot of mirroring going down and other lazy techniques.

Apart from that, Samurai Champloo (not recent, but I can't think of anything) has some really nice fights. As does Afro Samurai. I guess you could count Claymore, although I like the fights more in the manga.

I've also been wanting to see some anime with really nice action scenes and animation, but lately I've just been disappointed. I think my standards are just way to high when it comes to animation.

Although, from the Jubei link, I found the animation in this to be nice.

Reminds me of that old school animation that made me fall in love with anime in the first place. Why can't more shows have animation like this? Also, the Sword of Stranger links had some nice animation as well (though why he felt the need to show the same fight again slightly slower is beyond me).

I doubt that. I dunno what you may think, but I have nothing against you. Like I said, my standards might be stupidily high. But I prefer 30secs - 1min of really good animation than 3mins of bad/lazy animation. Dragging a fight out doesn't make it better, it just makes it longer. It doesn't keep me in suspense, it just makes me irritated.

I don't mind talky talky and all that shit. But it can wait until after the fight, like I said before. I don't need nor care about long drawn out explanations about fighting moves or techniques and I don't need to see the faces of 100 awe-struck babies (just show me once, I get the picture).

Not specific to what you posted, just my general thoughts on action so far. Only thing that leaves me slightly satisfied is Gundam 00, but the moments where I'm happy with what I see aren't exactly common. Meh, rant over.

That was definitely a good episode of Maria Holic. I was wondering when or if religion would actually come up in the show or if they would just ignore it. The way it was handled was definitely not what I was expecting. And yes, that line was great lol.

The preview for next week's episode though....left me completely speechless.

Just watched xxxholic. It's mostly Watanuki/domeki development (with some kohane early), but it was pretty good. I need to watch Tsubasa chronicle now to understand the tie-in.
