Anime Thread. [Prob not 56k safe]

Asking for recommendations on series; I haven't got into the world of torrenting, but if something is "zomg must GET" I'll figure it out. I suppose I'm more looking for something I can go out and look for on DVD to start collecting. I really got into Gilgamesh and Ergo Proxy -- absolutely love dark, psychological thriller, fantasy/scifi stuff. The BF came home with Gantz the other day and we blazed through it, and were really disappointed with the story.

Don't go for the silly, sight-gag stuff, or RL shows. My ovaries need character development and will (under duress) admit to thriving on melodrama and unrequieted love bullshit.

The Gantz anime is really dissapointing. I don't find the manga too great either, but it's still going with around 260 chapters. Anime covers like..2-3 arcs, then has an anime only one(I think), with that awesome ending

Gantz manga is miles better than the anime, but it's not to everyone's liking, the latest chapters are insane though, Oku is fucking nuts.

I think Boogiepop Phantom is the worth anime I've ever watched. I've watched a shitload of anime. Avoid it at all costs !

Anyways BG, I'm at a snag, I'm at this period where my anime feel isn't being fully fulfilled so I need a recog. Since nothing recently is coming up as somewhat interesting to me at first glance but I could be wrong.

I love mecha, sci-fi, character heavy, complex stories, comedy and to a certain extent slice of life animes. Some animes I love

Seto no Hayanome (or however u spell it)

you can give seto no hanayome a shot if you haven't watch it yet. It between 2-4 episodes there might be a little bore, due to other episodes that too hilarious funny as hell.

Oh god that series was crazy, alot ecchi references too which is awsome

Although I think the most disturbing episode but hilarious at the same time is when that one terminator like father dresses up like a sailormoon I almost choked on my food seeing that part it was so hilarious.

No clue. I'm watching Blue Drop, Shigofumi, Gundam 00, and the Bleach/Naruto/One Piece crap right now. I've got plenty on my table right now. D: Shigofumi is pretty interesting and rather dark imo if you want to check it out.

Utawarerumono, pretty good series, ending let me down but you might like it. Reminded me of Suikoden for a while.

Gunslinger Girl, amazing story and character development, great script (nothing obviously anime), music, sound and animation.

Higurashi, fucked up sci-fi/horror/thriller etc etc, worth watching for sure if you haven't seen it.

Narutaru, so fucked up, it starts out all cute and kiddy then after episode 3, BAM, so much messed up stuff happens. Manga is miles better, but it's definitely worth looking into, and if you like Narutaru, look into Bokurano (anime is good, but manga > *)

Kanon 2006, interesting sci-fi story mixed in with comedy aspects. the main character goes through an impressive character development, that's subtle yet obvious at the same time.

Rozen Maiden, well, you might like it you might not. But it's funny and has a story (while not wildly innovative or even great) does a good job of keeping you watching.

Dennou Coil, a bit confusing if you don't pay attention, good awesome art/animation and a good story (reminds me a lot of the matrix/.hack).

Jigoku Shoujo, worth watching last of all, if you can get into it then it will certainly pay off. episodic at the start (which is fine) but after a while becomes a drag until they introduce a couple of reoccuring characters that are trying to solve the mystery of jigoku shoujo, overall a good watch, second season mixes things up a lot more and becomes more interesting to watch, even if some things are predictable and nothing much has really changed the reoccuring storyline and character in this season is fucked up and very entertaining to watch, sadly it happens for the last few episodes only (20>end I think).

D: I don't like Shigofumi, the first two episodes made me sad. I watched 1-3, probably won't watch the rest. I'm bad with depressing stuff

Also, Narutaru manga is awesome! I would suggest reading a scanlation or reading RAWs. The ones that Viz or whatever put out are censored a lot I heard. Test tube rape ftw!

And more importantly, it has the best soundtrack ever. Loved it so much. Like you said, it's not the best story, but execution was really well done imo.
