dude, have you been to or seen a jap comic store? they sell those for every single manga series/anime series/animated movie ever created (which is a part of japanese culture i myself really don't get)... hell, if you look hard enough you probably find action figures of american tv show characters like jack bauer -,-

also, lucky star became popular waaay before the anime was announced to be in production, that's why kyoani started making it in the first place. americans get no more than 5% of the manga/anime from japan and get it at least a year late (new type usa makes an anime "news" that has been aired in japan literally 2 years earlier)

Exaggerating just a tiny bit? Unfortunately it's incredibly difficult to respond to a ridiculous, sweeping generalization when all the information you need to check your facts is in another language.

I was unable to find any merchandise that was bright, pastel, or printed on a bedsheet for Shana, Death Note, and 24, so make of that what you will.

I don't think the first episode is funny though. The later ones are actually more funny.
This PaniPoni Dash pretty funny? I have the whole series, but I've only watched the first. Still watchin Ouran Host Club at the moment. Started up on Code Gaess but that's kinda lame.

it is really depends on people, especially if you haven't experience the "asia's lifestyle culture" , you might found paniponi dash or the first episode of lucky star joke make no sense at all. well, the anime prime time joke can be one of the example thought

bedsheet on death note and 24? lol...

i didn't realize i was in a 12 year old kid's arguement... so let me clearify so you can understand what i'm saying: japanese people love peripherals, and there are peripherals for every kind of manga/anime according to their content: which means there will not be cute bedsheet for death note, nor will there be a mecha action figure for lucky star... but because lucky star became popular, they made peripherals to the extend of what the content would allow

but if you insist that 24 should have a bed sheet then i don't see the point in continuing to talk about anything with ya... you are on your own planet man (i mean i can't imagine even gay people wanting to sleep on a jack bauer bed sheet rofl)

Pani Poni and Lucky Star are two of the most dissimilar similar things you could compare. Their humor is nothing alike, in that, first off, Pani Poni is humorous, and second, that it's mainly reliant on irony and references to older anime. Lucky Star relies on I guess... meats and baked goods? for its humor.

Where the hell have you been? I'm saying that what they're selling uses the show's cuteness as its selling point.

And I'm using that fact as a supporting point to my argument that the whole show is just there to be moe first, funny second.

Did you miss the part in between the food talk and the ED where they shoved down your throat the fact that Token Smart Girl is a meganekko? Speaking of which, what happened to "Show, don't tell"?

I don't usually have a problem with moe-for-the-hell-of-it but christ they usually have a redeeming factor. It's like KyoAni's art department stepped out for pancakes and hot chocolate and the chimp they assigned the directing to drew all the funds from the writing department and poured it into the OP. Kanon had good art, Hidamari Sketch is entertaining. What's this show's appeal?

lucky star relies on elements of real life

the very first joke was on otakus, being about how otakus skip real life events for animes (and the fact that konata is a popular/cute girl being really good at sport but also an otaku made the joke better)

in fact the one thing i really enjoy in the lucky star manga is how often it jokes about people who love animes/games more than real life (konata is influence by her dad whos a huge otaku, and she plays galgame and mmo every night and with her teacher lol)

lucky star isn't the best 4-koma ever, but a lot of people can appreciate its humor on real life asian pop culture because it's so damn obvious to them... if it's not to you and references to old anime is your thing, then so be it, nobody's forcing ya to watch lucky star

And I'm using that fact as a supporting point to my argument that the whole show is just there to be moe first, funny second.
wait a minute... i thought we were arguing about why the show was funny at all, of course it is moe and that's a huge selling point, everything i've wrote so far is to explain to you why it's also funny or supposed to be funny for a lot of people >.>

I guess I missed where pointing out the obvious suddenly became comedy.

The first episode was almost depressingly boring for me. I actually started to get mad halfway through. I was thinking to myself, "What the hell? Never before have I seen more of a horrific lack of comedy. This show's failure is complete."

yep, that's the essence of boke/tsukkomi style jap comedy XD

culture clash can be huge ain't it

this is the exact kind of lack of understanding of asian culture that made xbox such a failure in japan, the notion that what americans considered fun or boring could be the exact reversal for another audience (i mean wtf right? we americans are the dominating race on earth, what we think is one way can't be another... only savages would disagree)

The First Episode was decent. Not funny, not horrible.
First Episodes usually aren't the greatest. Give it a few more episodes.

    It'll turn around.
    It better turn around.
    Has to Turn around.

blind squirrel, broken clock, etc etc

The "Guile sucks" thing was funny. One chuckle out of almost 25 minutes.

Eh, I found it to be amusing in the same way that Azumanga was amusing...
Just harder to judge it overall, given that there's all of one episode >_>

The karaoke at the end was the best. <3 Konata.

if you don't get why this picture is funny then you really shouldn't watch lucky star (hint: she looks sleepy, and tissue box...)

Speaking of which, Did Kyo Ani change that from Teacher Sex Scandel to Kiddnapping, or was that just AFK's translation?

    teacher sex scandel? kiddnapping?

um, i think the anime just talked about "recently too many kidnapping/imprisonment of girls" or something (not at home so can't check the anime right now) and i haven't watched any fansubs

Senoska, do you have Season 1 of Ichigo Mashimaro on your HD? If so, is there any way I could get you to put it on Filefront for me?
