The only decent adaptation of Kurosawa's shit into Sci-Fi is Episode 4

By adaptation of course, I mean fucking rip-off

I never finished Gurren Lagann. I think I just made it past the EXTREMELY-HORRIBLY animated filler episodes, and was so visually exhausted by the sub standard animation that I never proceeded to watch the rest. When do those shitty episodes start at again? 4-8? Maybe I might be able to muster strength to watch the rest.

I couldn't even finish Samurai 7... I watched it nearly to the end in 1-2 days, but somewhere toward the end, I got tired and went to bed and just couldn't bring myself to pick it back up. I think I only made it as far as I did through sheer momentum.

I'll second Baccano being quite awesome and way undermentioned on this board. It was my most recent completed series and I looked forward to every single episode and ended each one with "This is a really good anime". Don't let the first episode intimidate you though; it introduces tons of characters at arbitrary points in the story, but you aren't expected to remember everyone and everything from that alone (a style known as Pulp Fiction (The movie was named after this style. Wiki it))

Monster was good. I actually watched the whole thing in the course of like a week. It's 74 episodes, but I don't remember if any of it was filler (which is rare for a series that long)

I can't really recommend Claymore simply because it isn't a complete story. You have to follow up with the Manga to get more and the Manga is still ongoing. Both, the content of the series, and the above issue remind me of Berserk.

I've been meaning to ask: Is this Hellsing Ultimate a remake or something? I only ask because the version I saw was fucking horrific. (Specific gripes spoilered below)

    Spoiler: show
The main character bitch was fucking annoying. The dialog was atrocious, and Alucard was like Sylar level broken. I mean... he killed the Big Bad while laughing, and was obviously never even close to challenged.

They were getting tithes from the villages because that's what the bandits were doing in Kurosawa's story, just modified to have some high-tech goodies cause it's anime and you can do that silliness.
They shouldnt spice the story with thing like this if it add nothing.

That itself could be acceptable if they gave me a reason to care about any of the characters, but most of them were incredibly dull. Out of the 7 characters, there is maybe 2 I cared about, but by the end, they were either dead, or nothing was answered.

The main bad guy also came out of nowhere. They spend 18-20 episodes on a setting, than do something completely different and unrelated for the last 4...I just couldn't feel it. The flow was awful.

I know I'm being harsh since there is a ton of awful animes, but it could have been a lot more than it was, which is what piss me off the most about it.

I'll give you that, it had a lot more potential than it used, but it was still enjoyable I thought.

Course, I like swords a lot.

CJskater, I don't think any one should recommend Kurenai unless they want the FBI to come knocking on their door. And no Haruhi?! For shame!

    Fumoffu is a comedy.

There are a lot more love comedies missing from that list (most anime are either mecha, harem, love comedy, or melodramatic mystery). But if you are just assisting that one person who asked for any potential anime, I would say that anything licensed would fit him. I would just preview a bunch of shows here, if I was him:

Joking aside, Ladies VS Butlers and Kodomo no Jikan are way worse when it comes to Jail bait.

I won't even touch on Kodomo no Jikan, and what I gather, it was mostly one sided right? Sort of like the current season's Hanamaru, but with Crayon Shinchan humor on crack? LadiesVsButlers is a bit different, where the one character plugged multiple times that she is just a small 19 year old...

Kurenai is ABOUT sick twisted incest between brother (20's?) and sister to continue a family lineage, with the female being like 7 years old? And said 7 year old and 17 year old protector has a sort of love tension..

From last season anime, I would say Toradora might be worthwhile. Possibly Gundam 00, but I didnt watch it. Maria holic was a nice comedy if you want a weird anime.

"Spice and Wolf" and "Tales of" were great romance/drama/comedy

Baccano and Kurenai were pretty intense if you want a good anime with an original story and nice action.

If you liked Death Note, fanservice and mecha, give Code Geass a shot
Watched Toradora. Very good. Watched Gundam Seed and Destiny. 00 much better?

Anyways, will try out Baccano, Kure-nai, and Wolf and Spice, thanks.
I was so naive 1 year ago lol. Buccano is some pulp fiction wanna-be, but with 3 times the characters to remember. Wolf and Spice (Spice and wolf?) is a good recommendation and worth watching. So 1/3 were good recommendations

Isi mentioned The Book of Bantorra and I haven't seen it brought up too much the past few months. I've been liking it is a sort of dark action/mystery kind of thing. Last episode I watched kinda caught me off guard compared to most anime, too.

I guess you never seen Koi Kaze or Boku wa Imoto ni Koi wo Suru?

I think what cracks me up isn't when the character look younger but when they look older than their age.

I could post the love interest and her age but I think people head will explode.

PS Hint she is way older than she looks.

    - Claymore, I would somewhat agree, the manga is clearly better and does continue on. I would still recommend it since it's still a good action-oriented anime, and it really doesn't start to diverge much from the manga until the last few episodes. Not that hard to shift over if you really wind up liking it.

While I would definitely compare Claymore to Berserk in a lot of ways, at least they properly "ended" the anime for the part that they showed.

    - Hellsing Ultimate is a remake that follows the manga more closely than the original anime.

Koi kaze was boring to start it... And I can read a fair amount of Japanese to understand that romanized title of the 2nd one.

However, KissXSis is probably one of the funniest and most erotic anime/manga's I have enjoyed watching. Go figure.

Kure-nai wasn't bad. Nothing risque ever happens with that little girl, all she does is talk about love and give him a kiss once (which wasn't provocative or anything)... quite honestly the "cute not pedo" excuse really does work with that show. There is no love tension between the bodyguard and the girl, unless you mean (1 sided) tension in the girls head, his love is different from what she thinks he feels. You should probably finish the show if you haven't. The story is actually quite good and a decent source of comedy thanks to how smart the girl is.

Hanamaru is a similar situation to Kure-nai, except Kure-nai replaces the weird student-teacher relationship with a family that locks their daughters away till they die.

Fumoffu: I tried to keep them together, which is why i used "S1 S2 etc" instead of naming each one.

I mostly tried to avoid recommending harems, ecchi shows, and stuff only I might like. There are a good bit more shows I could name though (ex: Sekirei). Generic harems actually make me rage half the time so I don't really enjoy them that much. Romance shows are my weakest category, start one but can never finish it.

I had Haruhi on there but I deleted it at some point while trying to choose its category and never went back and added it.

Son, I am disappoint. I wouldn't be able to give that show just one category anyway, its a school life, drama, sci-fi, comedy....thing.

As far as recommendations; Needless is great for action and comedy, SchoolDays has one of the best WTF moments I've seen, Tenchi Muyo! series are best harem show, and DeathNote for mystery/psychological. Just a few series that I've enjoyed.

I thought he was romantically involved, in the past, with Index.

Regarding Haruhi, I would have to say this:

School life wouldn't be the dominate theme, since its story just so happens to be in a school. There are scenes that take it outside of the school scenario many times.

The drama is minor. There are a few dramatic scenes.

The comedy is through the narration and the interactions Haruhi and the other characters and with Kyon's narration.

Overall, the acceptance of the supernatural abilities of Haruhi is the fundamental theme. It would be a scifi/fantasy by most accounts.
