6 episodes to cover 27 chapters... is not impossible I guess... especially the later baseball centric chapters can probably be done quickly.

    Re: Evangelion

They ran low on budget around the last 2 episodes of the original series, so the final 2 episodes are terribad. The movie End of Evangelion is the ending that was supposed to be.

    Re: story/plot heavy anime

Bokurano (not to be confused with Boccano) is all story and characters. There's a touch of action, but it's really only a backdrop for getting the story across.

Glad to see a lot of Blogs are having same opinion on how this episode turned out.
Definitely worth it if it keeps going in this direction. PTSD, in my anime? It's more likely than you think.

Once the movie is released, which would be May 26 (ordered mine today).

Same here, they explained enough of the back story but still had enough mystery to keep you guessing.

I've added quite a few Animes to my watch list thanks to all the recommendations recently, but I don't know where to start. My list for the moment is

    Hellsing Ultimate
    Gungrave
    Index > Railgun
    Wolf and Spice
    Dennou Coil
    Eden of the East

I think I want something serious and epic at the moment. Action optional. What on this list can fill that position? And/or: Do any of these fall under the category of "OMFG You haven't watched XXXXX yet? What the hell is the matter with you?!?!?" (regardless of genre)

(I will eventually get through all of these, this is just an ordering question)

Somewhat unrelated; I've seen Macross Frontier on quite a few lists. Can it function as a stand-alone? Wiki has it as a sequel of some really old stuff. Is that old stuff worth watching/required?

Watch macross zero for the eyes candy before, and maybe one old macross movie.

but yeah, it can works as a stand alone.

You can watch MF if you haven't seen the other series. As for what order, I'd go (based on what I've seen and like):

Dennou Coil > Eden of the East > Wolf and Spice > Hellsing Ultimate > Gungrave > Index > Railgun.

Though, I wouldn't watch the last two at all.

Macross Frontier was the first Macross I watched. I saw one of the previous series after Frontier, couldn't stand the poor animation to watch more. It's a standalone series, you might get a few extra things from having watched it all first but you won't miss it. There's like a 50-60 year time-skip between them.

For "serious and epic" of those lists either they don't really fit that description or I haven't seen it. But if you like intelligent banter, Spice and Wolf is a "OMG why haven't you watched this yet?" series. If you like anime with well-thought out plots and characters it's a must-watch asap.

Some people love Dennou Coil but I just couldn't get into it. Maybe I should give it another shot but after 9~ episodes I wasn't hooked and eventually gave up on the series.

Serious and epic: Eureka 7 Season 2.

    Gurren Season 2 as well.

Really though you gotta watch the first seasons to fully get everything.

Eureka 7 is 1 season 50 episodes - not to get him confused when he looks for it. There's also a movie with remade story: Koukyoushihen: Eureka Seven - Pocket ga Niji de Ippai.

Man, fuck you guys. You had me all excited for an epic battle or something. Then I get a flaskback that would be great but I was expecting something to happen in the present with the comments about it. Totally ruined the episode, I mean it was still good, but in terms of how much I enjoyed it I think the previous episode was better. The episode still opens lots of questions though, and I'm still very interested in seeing how things turn out. Anyone know how many episodes we're going? 12/13?

It starts to get more action centric in the next novels, dealing more with the underground ninja families, mainly the Hozuki's which is the family that gave Shinkuro his demon horn.
Same thing for the manga (it's on onemanga if you want it), was glad to see it's going beyond where the anime ended. I didn't really care much for the anime ending either, could have used one more episode to show Murasaki going to school and being able to spend time with Shinkuro, but still represent her family at parties and stuff.

Hellsing Ultimate is far more faithful to the manga and a much better series overall than the original. Found the manga pretty cool before the Millenium/Letzte Battalion arc, but when that hits it just gets awesome. Original series didn't even get there so. :/

I had the same thing with Berserk, watched the series, then started reading the manga. The manga is so, so much better, the anime was basically only one arc with the first ep as some sort of prologue that's not followed up on. I don't think you could do the Berserk world justice in animated form without some serious, serious budget though.

Is watching Claymore worth it if I've read all of the manga? (twice, at that ;p)

Well, Gurren is basically only one season, but there are points in both stories which clearly divide the course of the first half from the second, so I tend to think of them as different seasons because of that.

I've seen Eureka 7 and Gurren Lagaan. I would consider both good (and Kamina has to be the most charismatic and likable anime character I've ever seen), but neither really knocked me off my feet. Haven't watched the E7 movie.

Edit: I don't have a good stream source for Spice and Wolf, so I'm gonna download that one while I stream Dennou Coil.

dennou coil got serious on me fast when i watched it. i was expecting it to be funny and maybe slice-of-life style but a couple of the episodes involving the "illegals" made me feel like i did when i was little watching are you afraid of the dark or something. i think in one scene one of the characters goes to the "other side" and encounters a bunch at the crosswalk to the deadworld, and the walk light starts shining with that creepy music playing while they gesture to her to come over...freaky shit. and the time they're chasing the kids around in the aunt's (or grandma? dont remember now, long time since i watched) house...spooked me. whacked out ending, and a really weird take on "hacking", but i thought it was good overall.

spice and wolf was great. i just finished season 2 yesterday, and i didn't really like how much lawrence's character seemed to bitch out during the amarti arc. he goes through a season of barely taking shit from anyone no matter what's going on, and then turns into a wuss for 5 episodes or so. i've got my fingers crossed for season 3. whoever said it was a "why haven't i watched this yet" anime was right. it doesn't sound like anything special from summaries or synopses but the characters, setting, and storyline/storytelling are pretty much perfect.

baccano was fantastic. at first i was kind of annoyed that the pacing was so fast and i had a hard time keeping up with who was who, but it just takes a few episodes to get into the groove of what's going on, then it's pure awesome until the end.

toradora...i didn't really like the turn it took near the end. i liked it more as an upbeat romantic-comedy school story, and then they had to go and turn it into an angsty lifetime movie. it was extra weird considering the age of the characters involved. it was still a good series overall.

just recently caught up on one piece, awesomeawesomeawesomeawesomeawesome

since eden of the east came up (fuck yeah), did anything ever come of that movie they were going to make of it after it finished? anyone know when it's supposed to come out?

Macross Frontier was the first Macross series I watched (well, I did see Macross Plus, but it's not really required). Saw Macross Zero afterwards, but going to second that you see that before Frontier.

Most of the first 3 volumes are all in the "future", only at the end of the third volume the story has a flashback to the band of the hawk arc (and a bit before that). Anime was basically one ep before going to that arc iirc. I'd suggest reading all of the manga really, it's worth it. Also gives you more stuff to read before getting enraged with the whole 1 chapter/month deal.

Good that Gutts is finally back, pretty art is pretty, but several chapters of noobs oohing and aahing over Griffith got really tiresome with that release schedule.

I don't know, but the whole conversion with Dead Corpse was nothing short of amazing, it gave me chills on how this Moe show became so serious by showing the effect of war, the development for the characters and the setting.

I'm wondering if Them refers to Alien invaders? Human technology looked pretty advanced, but then they all got blown away by a lazer beam lol.

This series will be 12 EPISODE long :/
