Wait... a Gundam series that's GOOD? That hasn't happened in over 10 years.
I'm skeptical about picking up 00, I was told SeeD was "good" when that was airing, I didn't like it.
Then... GSD, ugh.
I didn't like Wing much either... actually...
Only Gundams I did like were the original series 08th MS team and G Gundam (but I've always been a Super Robots kind of guy, so G Gundam was right up my alley).
Is it more like those or more like Wing?
It's amazing that you basically said what I was going to say, in so many words.Originally Posted by Charismatic

08th MS team was good because they didn't have the gundams raping every fodder that showed up, and the people/mobile suits actually got hurt and damaged, it wasn't just like "LOL LOOK AT ME I HAS TEH GUNDANIUM ARMOR, YOU CANT SHOOT ME!", it also had the right amount of episodes, unlike alot of gundam which seems drawn out and pointless.
There has been a huge Gundam love drop off since Seed and Destiny. I liked SEED somewhat, as it was semi-new with the whole C.E. thing. Then Destiny happened and totally blew up my love for Gundam as it was nothing but rehash of rehash, with new footage here and there, but most footage just reused throughout the series. There was even some reused animation from SEED used in Destiny.Originally Posted by Charismatic
Gundam 00 has far exceeded my expectations through the first 18 episodes. It's got the right bit of story, fighting, Gundam rape and all of that. The fights are animated great, and Im enjoying it a lot as are some others here obviously. if you want to pick it up, go for it, if not, that's also your choice.
In my view, it's sort of like Gundam Wing more than anything, but there's been a plot twist that's changed that a bit. The beginning is sort of Wingish though, which isn't all that bad. It's different for sure. It's nothing like 08th MS Team as they actually used regular mobile suits for the most part, and these guys use Gundams, but it's pretty damn good. Some of the Gundam models are completely different than any we've seen before too, which is nice. Anyway, watch if you want.
Ugh, for some reason the sound isn't working for the episode i downloaded.
edit: nvm, quicktime is gay
is it a problem if you haven't kept up with gundam, like at all (not since wing lolz). I kinda wanna watch it (few people recommended it) but I won't bother if I won't get whatever's being said because of previous series etc.
No, it's stand alone. There's been C.E., U.C., and all those different timelines, but 00 is set in A.D. 2307, so it's kind of like around our time, but you know.. 300 years in the future. >.>Originally Posted by Elcura
Short answer is no, it's not. Go watch.
Gundam-00 has been described by the producers/directors as "super robots in a real robot setting." It is kinda similar to Wing imo.
The good about 00:
-GRAHAM AKER FUCK YEAH.
-You don't necessarily root for the Gundams.
-Fight scenes are very well animated, and there are NO reused animations whatsoever. They're also really well "choreographed" so they look amazing and are fun to watch.
-Political intrigue if you're into that kind of stuff. There's a lot of scenes that discuss the politics involved around the situation with the Gundams.
-No emo BAWWWWWing over teenage drama stuff.
The bad about 00:
-Character exposition can be really iffy sometimes. There's still not a whole lot known about each character's past and the first season is almost over. You do get to know all the characters in some way or another, but there's still some holes left to be filled.
-Actual fight scenes tend to be pretty short. Like 2-3 minutes tops on most occasions.
-A reverse trap (don't actually know the truth yet...but yeah).

QFT in bold, but yeah. You pretty much summed up the series. It is sort of similar to Wing, but I don't think it has Wing's horrible flaws in most cases as in Wing, Heero could take out over 9000 soldiers without breaking a sweat, it seemed. D: The goods and bads are pretty much dead-on though. Do you like the series btw? Just curious.Originally Posted by Quixotic
I do enjoy the series yeah, it's actually probably one of best (if not the best, but I'll reserve that judgement until G-00 has run its course through both seasons) Gundam series that I've watched. I always hook up my laptop to my 46in HDTV to watch it in full glory every week.
Really the "bad" I listed are just minor gripes to me. I did forget to mention that I REALLY like all the mecha designs. The "cannon fodder" are all well designed, and I like them just as much as the Gundams (Graham's Flag and Exia are best looking to me). Another thing I like is that while the Gundams are pretty overpowering, their pilots aren't. Not to say the Meisters "suck" in any way, but its obvious that the writers placed importance of tactics and skill over technology, so that even the "cannon fodder" suits can stand a chance sometimes. I also am pretty intrigued by Setsuna's character and his background. I think that while sometimes their story explanations can be iffy, Setsuna's story and motive is really well done.
Yes I have to agree, I love the mecha designs this time around <3
They remind me of xenosaga, zone of enders, etc.
Wow, Graham rocks. This is exactly why i love this series, it doesn't take another gundam to kick the shit out of one.

Just downloaded, about to watch. As interesting as it can get, the first 12 episodes really killed the mood for me. It was just unforgivable.Originally Posted by Nitsuki

Was a decent episode I guess, even if not much happened. The new ending song is pretty good
Anyone seen Mnemosyne yet?
Only one ep out (to my knowledge), I don't know what to think yet, but I kinda like it so far.
