seriously though, judging on past animes, he should be leaning towards Bleach, Naruto, or Dragon Ball Kai. I would recommend as a follow up for Eden of the East, would be Tokyo Magnitude 8.0. If he wants to move outwards, then he should explore from recent and popular anime:

    Goofy Harem Comedy: Nyan koi
    Slice of Life: K-ON!
Dramatic Fantasy: Spice and Wolf (or Wolf and Spice, depending where you see it), Durarara!!
Mecha: Gundam 00, or Full Metal Panic
Fantasy Adventure: Full Metal Alchemist Brotherhood (that FMAB in your list?)
    Comedy Drama: Clannad
    Drama: Clannad After Story
Oh I watch Bleach. I don't watch Naruto or DBZ (anymore) Bleach is just like whatever just for fun, don't care about it. I have tons of anime on DVD. It just got way too expesnive and not worth it. My collection on DVD + Torrents is something like 75 full series strong. I already have Basilisk, GitS and it's sequel, Gurren Laggen, Darker Than Black, Escaflowne, Samurai 7. Slower pace stuff like Witch Hunter Robin and .Hack//Sign are also great. Ttons of other shit that I could spend the next 10 minutes listing. And yeah that's Fullmetal in my list

I don't limit myself to anything when it comes to anime. Some of the comedy shows to me are extremely dumb and I dislike those alot. I just ask for action shows because I know they are a dime a dozen and am looking for some of the better ones. Fantasy driven ones are fine too, I loved both Lodoss Wars, but consider those in the same vein as some of what I listed.

And Ker, I thank you for those that you listed, but what I meant by my post is there anything since then (like last year and this year) I may have missed out on? I know the Spring is when all the stuff hits, but I don't know what to watch cause there is so much out there. I like suggestions from other people. Hope that cleared things up. Thanks!

I can't remember anything recently that has been action orientated. Nothing that isn't retarded at least. It's mostly just comedy, ecchi and slice of life shit with some weird can't categorize shows along the way.

Every action show I can think of, that I've watched, since Casshern's season (that's good and/or watchable at least):

    Needless
    Phantom ~Requiem for the Phantom~
    Sengoku BASARA
    Shangri-La
    Tears to Tiara
    Ga-Rei Zero
    Rideback
    Shikibane Hime S1&S2
Tetsuwan Birdy Decode S1, OVA, S2
    Toaru Majutsu no Index

    Sort of unrelated:
Isekai no Seikishi Monogatari (Harem/Action... Tenchi spin-off)

    Watch this anyway:
Eve no Jikan (incredibly good, won't get bored)

Tears to Tiara is action? It's been a while since I watched it, but I thought it was just your average drama/school life anime? Rideback is alright, but it's slow and it doesn't feel like it goes anywhere. The concept is cool, it just...doesn't really deliver very often. I would stay away from Index as well, but that and Railgun I find incredibly shitty - perhaps your experience will differ.

Tears to Tiara is like an odd fantasy conquest type thing. Guy trying to become king or something... if I remember right. It's been awhile...

I hated Railgun but enjoyed Index, so I halfway agree there.

Edit: Also, like I said, "good and/or watchable at least." Some of them are "good" (opinions lal) and some are watchable.

For 2009, the closest (Death Note/Geass/Soul Eater/Gurren Lagann) FUCKINEPICeverybodieswatchingit was FMAB, which you already got. The year was dry as far as uber-series go. There was good stuff mind you, just not, fuckinepic.
everybodieswatchingit had K-ON and the Haruhi "watch us fap away budget doing the same fucking shit" season.

For the year ahead, maybe the marvel anime project will be good. Warren Ellis was bitching about deadlines a few days ago, and if he's involved, well...

You must have confused it with another anime... Tears to Tiara doesn't even take place in the modern world - I'd label it fantasy/magic type of anime rather than action though.

I feel like a broken record, but I'll always recommend Ergo Proxy and Bokurano as top-tier animes of a more serious nature.

Presently, I'm watching Durarara, and I must say that it is thoroughly fantastic. It's sorta Pulp Fiction style in that it doesn't seem to tell a single linear story, but rather jumps around to several major characters' stories and slowly reveals how they all make up a single larger story, similar to Baccano (wouldn't be surprised if it was made by the same people).

Yeah I have Ergo Proxy, and also another weird noir-ish one was Gilgamesh. It sounds like there's been nothing great in the past year which is a bit disappointing. I can't wait til the next Hellsing. Alucard will be ripping some shit up.

Bokurano I have not heard of, so I'll check that one out. As well as Durarara.

Thanks for all the suggestions. I check out the Anime News Network spring guide as well, but often times there is a lot of trash on that list.

Lol, right after I post that Durarara might be connected to Baccano, Isaac and Miria show up in the next episode. Epic Win.

Same author (light novels), same world, same animation studio/team.

Book of Bantorra (probably about wrapped up, is on Crunchyroll if you don't want to DL)

Kurozuka wasn't particularly recent, but perhaps that as well. Maybe Canaan. Shangri-La, as mentioned, was good. Might check out Bakemonogatari as well, it's not an action per-se...but it's a fun one to watch as well.

Wow, those are awful compared to season 1. Ending is slightly better than that opening, but meh.

They're not that bad...but yeah compared to season 1 they're a good bit weaker. We'll see how I like them after a few more watches.
