Exactly. It's pretty much the same as lots of other anime, but with that twist as a basic component. It's not really fresh or new...but it's different enough.

holy shit, kakashi, I mean, yasuri girl is hax. wasn't expecting that at all really. Kind of annoyed at the whole skipping over the "Japan's strongest" fight, but still really like the show.

Kimi Ni todoke = Clannad x Toradora, t/f? Only like 2-3min in but that's what it seems like, lol.

Pretty close to that. There are no extremely sad moments like Clannad, and doesn't really have a lot of funny moments like Toradora. I liked it though, was a good slice of life anime.

i love drama as much as any other guy, but really, a good drama shouldn't focus on the misunderstanding of the whole "i like you, but i'm not sure if i like you like you" as the main storyline

that's my beef with kimi ni todoke, as much as i love noto mamiko

That is definitely a problem in a lot of them. Takes a whole season for them to figure out their feelings, which, in this one, was like a year? =/

I very much agree. And I think that's part of why Clannad and Toradora are some of the stronger versions of the genre, because you don't really have that.

Just finished episode 1 and I think I'll enjoy it more than the first 4min made me think, but not sure when I'll actually finish it out. Sawako isn't completely typical and I like that.

Kimi ni Todoke is really nice and a good watch. But I would leave it at the anime, they finish it at a really nice place and if you read the manga from where the anime left off, you'll just get pissed off because shit goes backwards hardcore. Sawako is one of the cutest characters around though, so it helps.

His sister is insane, really hope to see more of her fighting in future episodes. And the skipping over the whole fight, I know it is annoying, but I found it absolutely hilarious.

Not even remotely. It's extremely subdued. It's a sweet story, but don't expect grand sweeping majestic drama or pratfall comedy. It's kinda cute, kinda funny, overall enjoyable but kind of fluffy.

Animation historian Jerry Beck reported on his blog on Sunday that American producer Carl Macek passed away due to a heart attack on Saturday. Macek and Beck had co-founded the anime importing company Streamline Pictures in 1988.

Macek is best known for producing Robotech, the 1985 redubbed and edited adaptation of three different anime series — Macross, Southern Cross, and Mospeada. He also worked on the dubbing of many anime projects from Captain Harlock and the Queen of a Thousand Years (redubbed and edited adaptation of Captain Harlock and Queen Millennia) to more recently, Bleach and Naruto. His other dubbing production credits include Vampire Hunter D, Robot Carnival, My Neighbor Totoro, and Aura Battler Dunbine. Although Streamline Pictures did not dub the 1988 film Akira, it did release the film in theaters and on video tape in the United States.

Outside anime, Macek wrote The Art of Heavy Metal (Animation for the Eighties), the 1981 book about the Canadian animated film Heavy Metal. That led to his co-writing credit on the Heavy Metal 2000 spinoff. He also developed the Lady Death film at ADV Films and wrote War Eagles, a novel based on an unproduced film treatment by Merian C. Cooper.
