Gohan finally went SSJ2, the japanese music was very weird though. I wish they would just use the American dub music for Kai, then it'd be the greatest thing ever. I was starting to get chills and then the little chorus came out, felt totally out of place.

I watched 5 episodes of K-on before dropping it. It's not worse than your average anime (not saying much), but I get irritated watching moe slice-of-life simply because they lack substance. It's impossible for me to related to any characters because of how dumb they are, and the plot always revolve around completely trivial and uninteresting situations that have no depth. How am I supposed to feel sympathy for the cast? Because of their super cute moe face? I wish, but it's just not doing it for me

Star Driver never cease to amuse me. Strip confession game is never a bad start for any episode, but the whole idolmaster Keito was just priceless.

Next week seem pretty interesting too, it's a consistently fabulous show.

And I still have no idea why people like Angel Beats.

How can you not consider FMA: Brotherhood and Clannad: After Story 10s? Also, while Angel Beats certainly wasn't a 10, I still rather enjoyed it. It started strong and slowed down quite a bit in the middle, but the ending was fantastic.

Angel Beats is just throwing random shit and hoping it'd be funny/awesome, which fails on all the episodes I got pulled into watching when my friends decided to watch it.

Needless to say, they were no longer my friends.

Different people have difference tastes, what can I say. If a drama has characters I like, and it makes me feel emotional than I love it. If it's a comedy and it just works with me then I love it. I've watched a couple of slice of life animu, and I find that most of them are just meh to me- with maybe one or two characters that I like. But K-ON and Lucky Star just had multiple characters that I loved, and most of the jokes made me laugh.

I liked the characters in Angel beats, and it did something that a lot of shows don't normally do. It killed off the characters. (Well, it's about the same thing.) I guess I just liked the characters, the character development, the interaction between the characters, and fuck yeah TK. Also, it has more songs than K-ON. :3

There really isn't much difference between my 9s and 10s. Since most of my 10s are dramas they lose some of their awesomeness after the initial viewing.

Angel Beats was pretty fucking lame but the bits about the acoustic girl and the main char's past were really good. There were some good visuals in that show, and the OP is one of my favorites ever (more for the music than the animation). Easily the weakest Key series imo, and Air wasn't that good so.... =/

Lucky Star on the other hand, while totally pointless, was extremely amusing to me (especially the ending bits with Akira and that one dude). It only exists to pander to people who like that sort of thing of course, but I don't find it offputting. I disliked Azumanga Daioh a lot more. Don't really understand why people were so into that show.

Possible the genre isn't for you. While I hate Angel Beats and Lucky Star, Azumanga is great, and Yotsuba& is even better.

Everyone has different tastes in different genres, so it's very difficult when comparing between two people. There's always some series which are at or near the top of everyone's list like Cowboy Bebop, TTGL, etc but then everyone has those special series up there that almost no one else has a 10 (for me, Needless and Ika Musume are mine). Usually when people ask me for a recommendation, I'll ask to see what kinda genre/shows they like and what they liked about them and then give them some options. Otherwise, I just go with some default options of shows that I liked and are generally well received: when someone asks for action, I'd give them Darker than Black or Code Geass or when someone asks for romance, I'd give them Spice and Wolf or Toradora.

I try very hard not to judge an Anime by it's genre, but rather by it's writing. The way I see it, if the Anime is well written, then it will usually work regardless of genre, art style, music score, etc.

When I say well-written, I'm mostly referring to consistency and continuity. After a while, you can really tell the difference between an Anime that had a plan from start to finish versus one that's made up as you go along. Aside from plot, it needs well defined characters and scenes that fit with what the audience knows. New characters, settings, and plot twists need to be introduced with the current state of the story in mind. So many Anime, Shows, Books, and Movies come across as being a few nifty ideas the writer/director/author/whatever had and just threw together while scrambling desperately to fill in the empty spaces with whatever they could get their hands on- usually cliches and trends.

This is also why most of the best animes I see are the shorter series rather than the ongoing popular animes. When a franchise has to rely a lot on filler to meet airing deadlines between the continuation of the main arc, it can just completely fuck an entire series. Most of the long series that end up being any good are based off of Manga/Graphic Novels/Visual Novels for which the story was already written.

As such, my list of favorite animes include stuff from a decent variety of different genres, and even a few that don't really fit into any genre at all (or overlap into so many that it isn't worth mentioning). That being said... I must confess to regularly watching Bleach and Naruto >.< I'm not proud of it. It's like my guilty pleasure.

My list of favorite animes hasn't budged for years since it's too hard to rank them imo. Though I might have some I like more now (again, too hard to rank), my solid top 5 has been FMA, RuroKen (everything), Escaflowne (TV), Full Moon wo Sagashite and Hikaru no Go. Mostly shounen, huh... I'd probably throw like... Seirei no Moribito up there or something else...man, too hard to rank, it's like asking favorite anything, it's too hard to pick for me.

I like almost every genre equally except sports (though I can enjoy some of them) and mecha or sentai. So the REALLY boyish ones are not my cup of tea.

The March issue of Houbunsha's Manga Times Kirara magazine is announcing on Wednesday that kakifly is relaunching his K-ON! comedy manga with a page of new strips with Yui and the other characters this spring. More details will be provided in the next issue of the magazine on March 9.

I totally expect a Season 3 after the Movie. K-on is still printing money for Kyoto Animation.
