Re: Anime Thread. [Prob not 56k safe]

Anyone here watched this? Higurashi no naku koro ni.
This is by far one of the most disturbing anime I watched recently. I usually dislike horror story, but the cute/comedy scenes mixed to the brutal and gory scene made it really weird.

First of all, you get to meet the "cute" character
    http://palobe.org/serendipity/uploads/bscap074.jpg
    http://img486.imageshack.us/img486/9...rashi02eu1.jpg

Then you get pretty scene like this
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NhrA8aqd7c0
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cv2TtD-BMu4 (spoiler kinda...)

It's not the first anime that kill a bunch of kids with big wobbly eyes, but the contrast between the comedy scene and the extremely brutal/gory scene is much more important than it is in other series. Torture, slow and painful death, baseball bat, and butcher knife give really weird result with those characters. The storytelling itself is pretty weird too. It's based on a game with multiple paths/ending, and all of them are told at the same time. You end up seeing the same 2 days over and over, but story still progress somehow through it.
The ending leave a lot of plot holes and unanswered questions, but there is a season 2 starting soon to fix that..hopefully.

I don't expect many peoples to like it considering how fucked up it is, but it's still worth a shot imo.

You can find the episodes here (streaming). I recommand watching the first 4 before judging if the series is worth it or not. If you are still uninterested after, then maybe it's not for you

It's good, Higurashi no naku koro kai is coming out sometime soon. Looking forward to that. Though I thought they should've used a different art style, sometimes it was cool/insane/brutal and other times some scenes were pretty laughable.

Higurashi is utterly amazing and I can't wait for the second season. If you're left confused after the first don't worry as the second season animates the two final answer arcs of the game that basically..answers..it.

Started watching Seto no Hanayome. Would be no less than 8 times better if at least half of the cast could remember their indoor voices.

Higurashi season 2's awesomeness will be decided by the proportion of Hanyuu's screentime:everyone else.

So, at AX, about a billion anime licenses were announced today. ADV grabbed Gurren Lagann, Devil May Cry, and Kyoshiro, and Geneon got the Shana OVA, the first two seasons of Nanoha, and Deltora Quest. There's also some other stuff too but lol.

Story wasn't really confusing despite the missing 2 chapter, it just lack closure. I wasnt really expecting any tho, knowing there was a 2nd season. My only gripe with the anime was the last episode that was pretty weak compared to other. The whole hostage scene was forced kinda, didnt have the same dramatic tone other episode before had.

Apparently they're doing the time skip real soon in like 3 or so episodes.

Quick question, I've torrented a few anime from animesuki.com, but even though theyre .avi I can't play them on realplayer. I'm a fuckin idiot when it comes to this technical shit, but I have downloaded a few codecs but I'm not sure those help. Should I use another player to run the anime on?

.avi doesn't mean much. That video format include many different thing, and it all come down to codec.

Realplayer is pretty bad at playing anything with codec usually (dunno about recent version tho). You should use window mediaplayer, Windamp, VLC or "Media player classic". The last 2 generally play anything without problem.

    Media player classic

    Vlc media player

For the codec, installing DivX or Xvid is usually enough...but some arent working at time for various reason (incompatibility and all). In that case, using another media players usually solve the problem.
    Xvid codec
    http://www.xvid.org/Downloads.15.0.html
DivX (just need to install the "codec" part, not the player that come with the install)

I know there is a few codec pack out there, but I forgot the name and don't have it installed on this pc. Someone will probably post them after. Might be easier for you to just download that and watch them using window media player.
