Anime Thread. [Prob not 56k safe]

And while Clannad wasn't great (fuck that ending) I still enjoyed most of it. Besides, Kotomi's way to adorable not to love. I hope the second series is better. cause as it stands I wouldn't recommend the first half to anyone...

Eh? Ending? The ending isn't until After Story ends, Ep 22 was just setting it up. Anyways, Clannad is pretty good, but the After Story is why it's the most popular and highest rated Visual Novel in Japan, even moreso than Kanon and Fate/Stay Night.

The Clannad Movie doesn't do it justice, it was just a half assed version of the ending.

When there's a final episode and I have to wait months/etc for new material I would consider that an ending. The first half has ended, if you don't consider episode 22 to be an ending then I wish I lived your life in lala land.

It's not an ending because thats not the ending of the story. It's just the ending of one arc, the school life one. Doesn't need to be much resolution besides Nagisa and Tomoya getting together to set up the next part.

Wait, what? Code Geass has a story that hasn't resolved yet but people still consider episode 24/25+26 to be an ending of season 1. I'm saying the way Clannad's first half ended was gay (for lack of a better term). I'm fully aware the story hasn't finished and there's still more but that doesn't change my opinion on the matter.

Edit: only thing I want now from Clannad's first half is the OST. the music.

In other news, Red Garden was actually good once they stopped singing during episodes. Though there was still a shit load of crying. Still good though.

I will end up watching it eventually. I'm just not the biggest fan of harem anime, and half completed story is another big turn off.


Can red garden be compared to another anime? No clue what it is about, and wiki entry isnt helping me much. I kinda hate the art style, but after watching xxxholic, I'm certain I can get over anything now.

I'd say wait for the second half to start before watching, that way you can avoid disappointment when it ends and there's nothing else left. I dunno what to compare Red Garden to, the art style is weird at first, but it really works well and you'll start to like it. The animation is really well done as well (fight scenes were done surprisingly well). I was never any good at describing stories because I feel like I'd give too much away and make it not as interesting to watch. But give it ~5 episodes and see if you like it. The characters are really well-done, even the annoying ones that you expect to hate become likable by the end of it, there's a good amount of development and great script-writing/VA'ing done.

It's one of the few anime to actually have realistic scripting in that when you have a conversation it doesn't go
Person 1 talks and finishes a whole sentence then,
Person 2 talks and finishes their sentence then,
Person 1 talks again and the conversation is over.

They all overlap their speech (not all the time, certain parts that make it sound better) and talk in a manner that fits the situation. It's a lot more believable and tense at certain points.

Just ignore the stupid singing bits, I think Japanese people stereotyped all Americans as singing hippies whenever they get sad or happy lol. But thankfully there's only 3-4 stupid singing parts that completely stop after about 7 episodes. To be honest, the only thing I didn't like about the show was the random singing.

I cant stand anime where the guy is dating many girls at the same time (or one after another). It's probably my biggest pet peeve when I watch anime. Air was fine, but Kanon's multiple arc annoyed me a lot. I kinda wish it was a 12 ep series covering the last arc only, or 3 completly different story.

It's not harem, the whole point of the novels is for the main character to choose one. Kanon did it very well and showed all 5 stories, where as Clannad is pretty much focused on Nagisa, which is understandable.

I'd say harem is more along the lines of They Are My Noble Masters and School Days

I don't want to start arguing about "harem anime" definition, that's not the point. I usually see those series in harem list, but even if they are not, it's still about a single male who's hanging around a bunch of female who all have romantic interest in him. Those kind of setting stink fanservice, and it annoys me.


I liked Kanon in overall, especially the final arc, but I dislike how the series deal with the multiple "love interest". I would rather have them stick with one couple (or triangle), and develop it over the series, than having multiple arc with different character.

I think they did the best they could merging all the stories into one (except Nayuki which they pretty much screwed over). I hope you realize that in the game you can only be with one girl and not all at once ;o

In Clannad, if they wanted to be truthful to the original story, there's no way around it. They had to tell everybody's story or the final resolution simply can't happen. They screwed over Tomoyo and Kyou's story this time around - hopefully they get their resolutions next season...

Of course, they should always stick as close as they can from source materials. If there was 6 girls in kanon visual novel, I want to see all 6 in the anime. I used Kanon as an example in my previous post, but my complaint was adressed in general to that type of anime. It's just something that I have hard time to get over.

While we are talking about visual novel, anyone read Narcissu? I finished it a couple week ago and loved it. Wwas pretty short, 3hours at most maybe.

I just watched Shigofumi 12. It's not what I expected, but I liked it. I hope we will get a bonus episodes with dvd, I want to see what happen next

Cliffhangers as hard as Code Geass though.
