Racists and homophobes will be racists and homophobes regardless of what adjectives are readily available to define a person of their ire. Blacks started using nigga as a term for niggerish niggas, and homosexuals started using faggot for faggoty fags.

I assume that the desire to differentiate between fag and gay and turn fag into something other than an insult for gays (ditto for nigger) is to take the sting or meaning away from these words. I have heard about this, but unfortunately i've never found any evidence that this actually works. For example, gays tried the same thing with homosexual back in the 70s-80s but instead what ended up happening is that the word they replaced homosexual with, gay, was instead imbued with the same meanings as the previous one.

Yeah because when I say someone is gay as a descriptor of their sexual preference everyone automatically assumes I'm insulting them.
