Has this come from previous experience?

My mom used to work in pysch wards and it was basically my daycare because she would take me to work with her, so from 6-10 i was pretty much in the pysch ward 5 times a week hanging out with the patients, outside of the ones who were just flat out depressed/suicidal kept there for safety and the extremely violent ones being brought in by the police everyone was generally nice and funny but the workers there were the most malicious people i have ever seen, there was this one lady who was notorious among the staff as well, she was abused by her dad as a child and everyone called her the black widow because she would attempt to talk every single one of her male patients into killing themselves. Everyone that worked there seemed to only be in the profession because they wanted to learn what was wrong with themselves initially.

I can most certainly understand why you've formed a negative impression then Over here, there have been many similar complaints arising from mental health wards (which are grossly underfunded) of patients simply being sedated with cocktails of medication and 'left to it'. I personally couldn't deal with the stress and emotion of it all, because I fail to detach emotionally from patients.

Unfortunately, when people hear 'Psychology' they usually think of things like this - but the actual variety within the subject itself is very surprising. My field tends to involve reassuring people we're not going to do anything awful to them, run sometimes-interesting, sometimes-yawn-inducing experiments to try and build conceptual models of theories of perception, and then applying them to other fields in psychology (such as Neurology - attempts to map the research on to those with deficits caused by trauma, strokes or congenital disorders).

It's not even that they are underfunded its that no one cares and it is a complete circle jerk among the senior doctors. I remember having an old guy put in because his daughter wanted his money and for no other reason.

But yea there are a ton of fields that are good, i just really hate the parts i have been exposed to.

you kinda have to see the deep insanity in that to appreciate it, do you have any idea how much she must seriously and deeply despise the opposite sex to do that? if you are gonna be a shrink you gotta jump into this shit

:< I hate that sort of thing - and it happens far too often. I don't blame you for feeling the way you do. Psychiatry is a relatively easy area for MDs to specialise in - at least in England it takes a much shorter time to reach Consultancy level, for example. For those who fail to empathise or have egos the size of the Atlantic, it's a very bad mixture to expose them to vulnerable patients who often would respond better to kind words and a smile.

@Titanss: I think I've already established that 'becoming a shrink' isn't in my field of interest :D

There was an english professor also who had a demon named grunt in his head and he would flush the toilet all day so we couldn't hear him talk to it, he was embarrassed about the whole thing because apparently it happened to him during a seance or something.

If she were pregnant, her hair might grow longer and more lustrous (apparently it's one of the nicer side effects to being preggers).
I've no husband or boyfriend to speak of, but I might as well try and rock the 'wifely long hair' look whilst I still appear young enough to carry it off.
