Human evolution is going to stop soon anyway (at least the chances for it are high). Because humans just dont need evolution anymore because they got their sience and technic. When its cold we build houses, so we dont needed the massiv hair anymore. When we needed to travel long distance, we designd new vehicles like cars, bikes, planes or ships, so we dont need strong legs to run or bigger lungs to swim longer. We dont even need to build a heavy resistance against anything like bugs did (you know those little things that can live through atom explosions) because we got better and better medicine.
We dont need to work as hard as 100 or 1000 years ago anymore. We dont even need great inteligence in the future anymore because there wont be anything left that needs thousonds of ppl to develop it. One inteligent person would be enough, the rest is already developed or will be made by robots/computers.
Just look at your local shools how fucked up the kids are, or how many idiots are running around on the streets and you will see that our human evolution is going down instead of becoming better.
To the OP and the question about there being a god. Just think about what you would do if your own creation (the humans) use your name to kill each other or to gain profit. They do wrong things and use your name, they blame you for the bad things. So what would you do?
Either he died long time ago or he turned away. If you say, it is his will that we punish those who dont believe what we believe (because you cant say "those who dont believe in god" because nobody can know what god wantet so it will always be only a personal belief) then what is the difference between him and the devil.
The bible is a stupid book, the guy who wrote it might have had good intentions but ppl who use it today are just old guys or assholes who want profit.
Damn i hate religions <.<
Your statement about stupid people being one of the indicators of evolution stopping is a bit foolish. Do you think we are the first generation to have idiots doing stupid shit everywhere? Nero set fire to Rome, that wasn't too smart.Originally Posted by crazyrabbit
One thing that your missing about the whole "If God is real why would he let people do these kinds of things to eachother" argument is that God gave mankind a little thing called free will. It is not his responsibility to have us conduct ourselves in a civil matter, that is our job.
Before anyone thinks I'm some kinda born again Christian or something, I'm not. To be honest I don't even know what I believe in after studying religions for a good part of my life (I was gonna become an anthropologist/History professor).
I think evolution is cool. The ability for the makeup of a man to change to suit the need of his environment is the coolest thing in the world :D
I think we should test the limits of human evolution. Like seeing if we can get a man to be born with webbed feet or something.
The idiots are just a side-effect for the overall fall of human society.
The real point was that we dont need evolution anymore thus stopping it. Like Swampthing said evolution is changing something to suit the needs of its environment. But humans do this with science, with medicine, with technology and so we dont need any evolution. We dont need to become stronger, we dont need to become more resistent and we dont need to become more inteligent so all this wont happen. It will just go backwards because the things we need from nature (like birds need light bones to fly) will be more and more taken care of with technology.
Yes humans got the free will but many ppl use the name of god to justifie there actions. They say "god said this and he want us to do this" just to not take responsibilty of their actions. In this view every offensive religion in the world is wrong (only exception i can think of is budhism), they want others to believe what they do "in the name of god" deniing that god himself gave humans the free will to believe what they want.
I'm not christian or anything else >.>; i dont believe this stuff but that doesnt mean i can't think about it. And sorry for my bad english <.<; isnt my first language and i have a hard time learning it XD.
I think your English is great ^^v
I just don't agree that Evolution will stop because life is becoming easier. If you believe in evolution then you believe that the planet and mankind is literally millions of years old; it's not like in the next 1000 years mankind will be underdeveloped, stupid and fat with robots to do everything for us. If you believe in the evolution of homosapiens developing legs longer than arms (One of the first differences between apes and humans), then you should understand that this took thousands, maybe hundreds of thousands of years to change. To further prove my point, people are still born with a tail bone today, and have a pancreas; an organ that hasn't been used in hundreds of thousands of years. The theory of adaption states that the stigma needed for an process or organ to disappear would have to be not used. Do you really think that years from now people will sit in tubs of their own flesh and have machines doing everything for them, that there won't be sports anymore, or even a military?Originally Posted by crazyrabbit
Of course evolution won't stop, lol. You think we have no need to continue evolving because you're only looking at the world over the past, ohh.. 2,000 years maybe. Evolution is something that happened over millions of years. If anything, we have to worry more about Earth getting struck by a catastrophic meteor, because that's probably about the only thing that can prevent evolution from continuing on this planet. Even if mankind is wiped out by terrorists, or a plague, or anything else, in the next few million years there will be life again.
Evolution only stops under a very tight set of circumstances, none of which happen in the real world.Originally Posted by crazyrabbit

Here is what stops someone from saying it: "entia non sunt multiplicanda praeter necessitatem". Translation: "Entities should not be multiplied beyond necessity" otherwise known as "Occam's razor". Then throw in some falsifiability stating that the "Spaghetti Monster" was truly responsible for the creation of human life, you can easily logically desconstruct nearly any argument to add in mythological beings into a scientific argument.Originally Posted by Devek
Mrs. Garrison was right, sometimes being smart isn't enough, sometimes you have to be a jerk about it.
P.S. Specifically about being preprogrammed, lower life forms would have to have an entire copy of the genetic material of every from of life that would eventually descend from it, since you cannot account for random mutations changing the DNA by happenstance. Considering the variety of the number of chromosomes in different animals (Humans 46,
Gorillas & Chimpanzees 48, Domestic sheep 54, Horses 64, Dogs 78, Chickens 78) that would be an awful lot of DNA to keep around in single-celled organisms.
But so many things in the world we live in are being multiplied beyond necessity that, while saying they should not be is very true, it doesn't matter if they should or should not, they will anyways.Originally Posted by Septimus

Oh I gotcha now then. I sort of remember the episode of house on Occam's razor now too.
Is this speech being given by some guest speaker in a school, or by some random guy out on the quad?
Hmm i always saw evolution as reaction of the changing environment, as result if the environment doesnt change their wont be any evolution. Its like the perfect form of live then, because it doesnt need to change anymore.
And humans are going to achieve this perfect form of live with science/medicine/technic. With this statement you can see that im not talking about a few hundred years, because it will take longer to achieve that goal. "Soon" was meant to be like in a hundred thousand years, which is rather short if you look at 30million years evolution (just a random number).
I was talking only about human evolution by the way, plants or animals still change and will always do till they maybe reach the same point as we got or an other form of perfect life.
But if you say that life is a reaction of evolution, that life would stop if it doesnt change anymore (this is a common known theory of some guy that i dont remember, who said that everything will break down if it stops) then it would be true that we always need to change. This goes somehow into the discussion about the biggest question in philosophy "why are we here".
Oh and of course humans will kill themself with a 99% chance way before anything big would happen >.>; but its kinda fun to think about the philosophic posibilitys.

Ya ID has a lot of weight to it, don't knock it. Remember when the earth was flat and was also the center of the universe?
Crazy fucking scientists ruined that for us.
he real problem as I see is that both camps are kind of religious because they are confusing what actually happened with WHY. I accept evidence that we all evolved from single cell organisms but I think saying it was all random and happened by chance is just as stupid as saying it happened because God said so.
Cells didn't evolve by chance, they evolved to adapt to several occurances during earths younger years. A cooling atmosphere, a cooling crust, more water, the moon slowly moving away from the earth creating a different effect of gravity on the planet.
These are scientific facts in which single cell organisms evolved from what they were, to what is now. Different cells in different areas evolved in different ways, due to serveral different variables in their area of the world.
The problem with ID is that there are no moderates ( that I know of ) that try to combine ID with evolution. I hope I can be proven wrong on this, because it gives humanity hope. Most people that believe in ID are fundamentalist evangalists who teach their children that global warming is ok, because Jesus is coming. That destroying the environment is ok, because God gave this to us, and earth is not permanent. And that SCIENCE IS EVIL AND THE WORK OF THE DEVIL.
This is de-evolution.
And a note on the humans not needing to evolve, there will be an outside "event" which will create a situation in which we or another species will evolve. Global warming, a meteor strike, another ice age; these are all possible and uncontrollable variables which would spark another evolutionary phase.
What's wrong with plants or other animals? They could be closer to "perfect" than we are, for all we know. They do what they're here to do, and some forms of life (especially with plants and reptiles) live many times longer than we ever will. Several don't even have natural predators other than us, and only us if we decide to go kill some ancient trees or turtles in remote parts of the world on a whim. Not sure what else they have left to evolve into.Originally Posted by crazyrabbit
