Hate was never a problem with me as nin/war for bahamut.

I don't think Nin/Pld is better than Nin/Drk, I agree that Drk has a lot to offer for Nin tanks, although I think people underestimate the MP recovery rate you could reach on Nin/Pld with Ethereal & Refresh.

I'm questioning more how Nin/Pld would stack up against Nin/War, in situations where you are not going for a DD tank route, as I realize in some HNM fights Nin's do maintain a degree of hate through a more offensive role.

I'm not sure if people are talking about what job to bring to tank or what to sub for NIN tanking, because either way, I'd rather have a good PLD/NIN taking than NIN/whatever. The thing with this battle is that the tank will take damage, it's not a matter of if or skill, flares have to go off, even if they're stunned they will still go off. With PLD they can keep their own HP up while generating hate, keep shadows up with help from shield mastery (and take hits better when shadows are down), negate flare damage with rampart and build generally hold hate much better than a NIN.

NIN/DRK not using Stun for hate is the next best hate holder. We've tried NIN/WAR, NIN/DRK, NIN/BRD (pre-nerf) and PLD/NIN, and PLD/NIN was always worked the best overall.

How much does he hit the PLD/NINs here who have tanked him for, with your typical Bahamut buffs? Non-shield block and shield block. (Haste + Shell IV + sometimes Protect whatever is all we ever use, I haven't seen anything more prove necessary).

I've tanked Bahamut V2 as NIN/WAR several times and I prefer it over NIN/DRK for that fight. Hate usually isn't that big of an issue, the most important thing you need to be sure of is to not die, and spike hate at the right moments. So the bit of extra HP from /WAR and being able to wear any covert MP->HP gear like a Cassie is nice too.

Not saying NIN/DRK can't work, because I'm sure it could. It's just a matter of preference. Although I always laugh a bit when people are so adamant about NIN/DRK say stuff like
Because you can still generate a crapton more hate than /WAR with just Bind, Sleep, Kurayami, Hojo, and randomly tossing spells like ABS-MND or Poison.
I totally had no idea /DRK unlocks Kurayami and Hojo!

And I agree with most things being said about NIN/PLD, especially for this fight, just get a PLD/NIN. Higher evasion and one extra shadow on Ni won't help much. Higher Ninjustu skill will help slightly on some of the TP moves, but I don't think it'll outweigh how good Rampart is for Flares that you only get on a PLD/NIN. And already stated as well, NIN/RDM seems more viable a tank than NIN/PLD in general. Sleep, Bind, Dispel, MDB, and Fast cast are all useful.

I'm not really comparing Nin/??? vs. Pld/Nin on Bahamut, my LS uses Pld/Nin, it works well for us.

Some people were referring to doing fine with Nin/War for the fight so I was curious whether Nin/Pld might be more useful for this particular fight than other options, *IF* you are using a Nin to tank in the first place.

    Ya Garret,
You will never see me as anything but Pld/Nin for Bahmut v2, On mob's you can safely stun Lock Nin/Drk is Hawt with stun preventing as much if not more Damage then Pld/Nin can cure, making it the more "Self-Efficient" Choice. Well till I get my hands on a KClub for my Dark

    Hey sweet another tank debate.

Where is the tank debate thread to go with meat vs sushi, it's the same arguments over and over.

I personally haven't seen many debates on the merits of Nin/War vs. Nin/Drk vs. Nin/Pld as applied to Bahamut v.2 before, maybe I'm completely mistaken, the typical dead horse debate is usually Pld vs. Nin. So I wouldn't relegate it anywhere near the beaten to deathness level of Meat vs. Sushi.

Not saying you are comparing the two, just honestly curious how much damage a good PLD/NIN takes per hit from Bahamut and what buffs you get, since I'm in the process of leveling PLD myself.

NIN/PLD has more Job Abilities for hate, NIN/DRK has more spells for hate. The difference is that /drk's sleep/bind/blind recasts are affected by Haste and /pld's sentinel/shield bash/cover aren't.

If you leave it at Just Flash/Stun with Stun being resisted, NIN/PLD works fine with Sentinel and AutoRefresh with some Cure IIIs.

setup is usually this for us:

    nin/war
    nin/war
    whm/blm
    whm/blm
    brd
    rdm/drk

    blm
    blm
    blm
    blm
    brd
    rdm/drk

    blm
    blm
    blm
    blm
    rdm/drk
    pld/nin or /war is fine

the brd rotates between the blm parties the pld subs out until smns

we sometimes CS stun vrtra if we feel it nescessary, if vrtra is first we never have to becuz MP is usually fine

we always make sure we time the smns so mp is at optimal

pld pulls wyrms and blm's nuke them down

    nin's stack HP and enmity

    rdm/drk's stun firagaIII's

around 15-16% we get nin and rdm or pld to do a SC and all the BLM's burst it for the kill

sometimes a teraflare gets off at around 1% if there was an unlucky resist with a blm not using ES but its usually mijin'd or T4'd Taga3'd from survivors

we've always just ES burst II'd him at 21%. most of the time the tank wont lose hate (nin/war), and if he doesn't die from the first volley, we just have a couple blm stun and finish him off with a t4.

imo, as long as the player doesn't suck, it shouldnt matter if you use pld/nin, or any of the nin varients because they all work, just depends on the player and how well your alliance can adjust to it.

Souleater/Weapon Bash/Last Resort > Shield Bash/Sentinel for hate. And /DRK gets plenty of spells with hate on them. That's why it works so well.

I've tanked as both pld/nin and nin/war.. Has anyone noticed something funny with hate on bahamut? Maybe it's just because I take so much damage, but hate seems to be really strange.. I was thinking perhaps horrible roar as some sort of enmity reduction along with the dispels.. Could be totally wrong, but I just noticed something odd about the hate compared to most things I tank....

As far as Pld/nin vs. Nin/war.. when I tanked my shield skill was around 240-250 and I got hardly any shield blocks.. I'm still somewhat new to pld (though my shield skill is almost capped now) and without the shield blocks and the extra shadow from nin main I took a ton of damage. I think we did better with me as nin/war, but would be interesting to try again with a decent shield skill and see how the outcome changes. (Though we always zerg this fight now and win in like 30 seconds instead .-.)

Oh and nin/pld.. awesome for solo, with mp regen and all.. not awesome for HNM fights.. Maybe with a gjallerhorn bards ballad or something and other people in the alliance taking enough damage that you can spam cure III's, but that's a pretty rare occurence.

Feel free to pm for a more in depth way on how we do it, but we have gotten our time down to 26 min kills with no trouble at all.

we have our tank PT whm and brd both sub nin. our first two times the tank PT brd was /whm and died like 14 times through the fight. no bueno.

    /nin wins

we also usually have PLD/NIN and RDM/NIN main tanks, with a PLD/NIN wyrm/backup tank. you might be surprised how well a properly geared rdm/nin can tank bahamut.
