Quitting is such a pain in the ass. I'm banking on cancer not existing in 30 years when it will really becomes detrimental to my health, especially with the advancement of nano technology.

Meh... I hear where you are coming from on that one, but I'll tell you this. I'm 28 now and when I quit I was 26. I'm young and I feel like I'm in basic good health. When I quit I didn't feel sickly or anything. I feel about 1000x better now than I did when I smoked. You breathe differently, smell/taste things better, and your body feels so much more energized. So while you think you may feel fine now, and that its not so detrimental to your health now, it's amazing the difference in the way you feel once you remove yourself from it. It's totally worth the pain in the ass it is to quit.

Cold Turkey. Its a mental game. And cigarette's are more of a psychological addiction than a physical addiction.

Every person is different on what will work for them. First step is to decide to do it. Then set a date and do it.

    Good luck!
actually it may take 3 days for nicotine to be purged from your system, but the physical dependance lasts much longer than that. as with any addictions your body accomodates the drug and when its not present its just as much a physical struggle as it is mental.

if all it took was 3 days then people wouldnt be quitting then go back to it months later etc, it can be a life long struggle... hence why people who stop smoking cant say theyve truely kicked the habit until theyre dead

I quit cold turkey. If you can make it two weeks, you're golden. Go to costco and buy a pack of lollipops if you must have something in your mouth

I'm with all the "Cold Turkey" ppl. The idea is to replace your addiction with something else. I'd have to say I smoked a lot when playing FFXI. Mainly because of camps. So damn boring and time wasted waiting for shit to pop. Either stay busy, try the nicotine patch/gum, regular gum or candy or something. It may take a few tries to find the one that works for you. The first week or two will be the hardest.

Ok people telling me cold turkey cannot be done = fucking pussy.

Yeah I got urges, really really bad urges. It was even worse when I drank. It's all fucking willpower. I'd wake up in the morning and want a smoke. I'd finish a meal and want a smoke. I wanted a fucking smoke all the damn time. It's not easy, but I fucking did it. I'd just tell myself no. I work for a company that ships cigarettes amongst other things. I work around people who smoke heavily too. Like I said, if I can do it, anyone can. Anyone who cannot do it is, I'm sorry, a weak willed fuck.

actually no, they arent. stop judging someone elses physiology in comparison to yours when you have no idea how theirs varies. you sound absolutely ignorant and like a pussy with somthing to prove, almost like a "HEY LOOK AT WHAT I DID HAHA YOU DIDNT"

look up the research, and the actual effects of nicotine on various people. the addiction can vary from mild to extreme (comparable to herion) all depending on your predisposition to alcoholism (and it doesnt mean alcohol it means attiction) you can have an issue where you cant just tell yourself "No".

your body controls the settings in which your mind works, when put into survival mode you will do things that in your right mind would seem completely off key. i used to say i could quit smoking after i had a cig, but the more time that passed the more my body and mind actually rationalized how smoking would be good... then after i smoked i would be back to my right cognitive faculties.

give your opinion and move on, because telling people theyre a pussy for using an aid to quit does absolutely nothing. stop being a douche whos trying to prove theyre superior and encourage the smokers who want to quit to quit any way they can.

When you're a kid you can abuse your body and bounce back pretty easily.

When you get older cold turkey presents physical health issues and weird side effects that can last for months.

Quiting smoking while still in puberty is not the same as quitting smoking while an adult for the same reason I can't go for a run without a proper warmup and not seriously hurt myself in the process like I could when I was still in high school.

I want to quit so bad too, so good thread....lol

Ive been smoking probably a pack a day, sometimes more sometimes less, depends if i work or not or sitting in front of FFXI. Most of the time if im working, or doing anything that will stress me out or shit like that, I just cant go without a cig. Alot of times, and this goes for caffeine as well, i get massive headaches that dont go away unless I smoke or dring a Mt Dew.....that right there is half the reason i havent quit, cuz if i do im gonna have a nonstop headache....and its pretty horrid. So any answers to this, are welcome

Caffeine withdrawals last like 5-7 days usually. Just take some aspirin and hope for the best, it sucks.

Pretty much what i do but still, i cant say im not addicted, started smoking at 14 been doing it ever since slowly more and more. Its mostly the headaches that stops me but man my job is purely physical and sometimes it makes it so hard.........really bad. But yeah alot of the time the headaches wont go away and i have to down some ibuprofen anyway.......
