VA Tech Shootings: 32 + 1 Dead (Mourning Thread)

Its been pretty surreal. I decided to skip my 8 AM class this morning and sleep in until about 10 AM, when my roommate told me about what was happening. Going to my early class would have taken me right by the building where most of these shootings took place.

Not to mention that I live in East Ambler-Johnston. Apparently I slept right through the early morning shootings on the other side of the building.

The whole campus was locked down, but it seems we're free to move about now. Dining halls are back open, but I'm not sure if I want to walk around at the moment, although I'm getting pretty hungry...

Things didn't get very hectic in my hall, although I know a couple of people who were held in academic buildings while this went down.

Hate to think what this will do to the university's reputation. What with the shooter running around the area (off campus, though) on the first day of classes in the fall, and two bomb threats last week, I have a feeling that next year's freshman class might be a bit smaller than expected.

I don't want this to seem to come off too cold-hearted, because that's not what I'm after.. and for example, I'd guess it took a little while after 9-11 before people could frankly admit how "successful" the terrorists were.. but for a single gunman to take down 30+.. this was either extremely well orchestrated (albeit in sick madness) and/or there is virtually no security at VaTech. Columbine had, what, 4 gunmen? This is insane on so many levels.

Still 4 in critical condition, too...

I don't see how he was able to do one shooting then to wait 2-3 hours and start shooting again. I heard there was a campus lockdown after the first shooting and then it was lifted a few hours later and he started killing again. Is that what happened?

When I first read about this on CNN I was under the assumption that it was being done with a rifle, sniper-style.

So this guy was just walking around with a handgun murdering people, and no one took him down? Or was it a semi-automatic weapon or what was the deal here? CNN is slow with the details.
