my biggest interest in this as a case study is what the fuck is going on inside his mind in those three hours period

VT bans guns on campus. i'm not sure how 2nd amendment could have made a difference.

Because you can obtain guns legally off campus, and bring them on. How many metal detectors and police roam the campus to prevent guns being brought on?

Making it harder to obtain a handgun wouldn't have stopped this. People who want guns will get guns, regardless of what the law is. The law also makes drugs illegal, yet I read about people smoking bowls on this site daily.

That's not my attitude at all. I support the fight against drugs. And there are plenty of good arguments against banning guns as well, and tighter restrictions are welcome (though I still want a hand gun)

I guess my point was - this guy was fucking crazy. He wanted to kill 30+ people. Making it harder to get a gun wasn't going to stop someone who wore a bullet proof vest, chained the doors, and carried out 2 separate attacks. If you can't see that this guy was going to do this REGARDLESS of how many checks he had to go through for a gun, then you just don't get it.

Now people blame the crime on the gun itself, and the fact it's legal, rather than the person. It's simply not true. Banning guns may cut down on crime and on killing, but it won't stop this. There's many other ways to kill people.

To sum it up: Yea, I'm with your attitude - but stop saying that banning guns would have stopped this. He'd have probably blown the building up.

she described the shooting as "thorough" and the guy doubled back after hearing people still alive and talking in the classroom and opened fire again

then the students used their body to blocked the door so he couldn't come in, and he SHOT THROUGH THE FUCKING DOOR

dude, that's just crazy, he's not only extremely clear headed but fuckin COLD BLOOD

edit: oh yah, he also peeked into the classroom twice before coming in and opened fire, so basically he went through all the classrooms to get an understanding of the "targets" before he started.... what a fucking monster

EDIT: By the way, in regards to the shooting, had to give a presentation in Software Engineering today but prior to that, the professor who I worship as God brought up the shooting and started telling some stories about how him and fellow professors have had some situations. Kind of creeps you out after some of the stories he told.

Kind of saddening, though. I was actually considering VT when I was originally applying to colleges.

yea japan is a great nation, unless you happen to be a woman riding one of their trains/busses...

Japan has some incredibly violent crime...they have very little "blue collar" crime in comparison to the U.S., petty theft and all that, but they do have other crime.
Remember the Sarin gas attacks? They botched that, it would have otherwise killed a lot more. Same group did other stuff too...mostly against military bases, and again, mostly botched...but still >_>

It was a terrible thing to do, but honestly, it could happen most anywhere.
