Even if you believe it to be an isolated incident I still think you would cancel classes for the day and lock down the campus.
A. This isn't a high school.
B. It pretty much was viewed as an isolated domestic incident. Really, it was some girlfriend/boyfriend breakup shit and they got that figured out really quick. So they didn't think anything else would happen, and it was way on the other side from where the academic buildings are. After a few hours, would you think something could/would happen along with it? Not really.
C. I can tell you that the majority of the campus agrees with what the administration decided to do, so, do what the rest of the media needs to do:
Shut the fuck up, mourn for those lost, and pray that nothing like this ever happens to anyone/anything/anywhere ever again.
Do you know any of the victims personally? If not, stfu. There are a lot more people dying around the world on a daily basis.
I see pastry shops throwing away their breads at the end of the day, biscuit tins getting thrown away when its 2~3 months before expiration. Yet there are still people dying of starvation. Why not go fucking mourn for them? Or is it because they're from fucking third world country so they don't fucking deserve it?
Boohoohoo people die from a gun shooting spree that occur like less than once a month. This is so fucking sad. Get over it. People die everyday.
I don't think I need to know any of the victims personally for something like this to affect me. Do you know where I should have been when that shooting in Norris happened? I should have been walking by the building. I walk from Johnston, past Norris to McBryde between 9 and 10am every M,W,F. Never really at the same time, so who knows when it would have been that day.
I could have been walking by the building when the shots were fired. Some of my friends were in Norris when it happened. Shut the fuck up about what I can say and what I can say--you don't have any idea what the hell half of us are going through at the moment.
I got a message on facebook from someone I haven't talked to in ages. She said two friends of hers were shot in Norris. Yeah. Then people I am with all the time at the Wesley Foundation on campus, about a quarter of them know someone that was shot and is either dead or wounded. I talk with them, comfort them--sit with them. Whatever. I don't appreciate your fucking attitude and telling me to shut up.
Try to think about the situation like you lived here. Let us mourn and get through this first, and then maybe we can talk about security and shit later. The administration didn't handle anything wrong. At all. Most of campus would agree with me on that. This kind of place, you wouldn't expect anything like this to happen. We don't have anything like this happen around here. We're in the country. We don't have a lot of arrests, crime, anything. You wouldn't ever imagine to have this here.
Just shut the fuck up and don't try to fix our problem.
