    A. This isn't a high school.

    B. It pretty much was viewed as an isolated domestic incident. Really, it was some girlfriend/boyfriend breakup shit and they got that figured out really quick. So they didn't think anything else would happen, and it was way on the other side from where the academic buildings are. After a few hours, would you think something could/would happen along with it? Not really.

    C. I can tell you that the majority of the campus agrees with what the administration decided to do, so, do what the rest of the media needs to do:

Shut the fuck up, mourn for those lost, and pray that nothing like this ever happens to anyone/anything/anywhere ever again.
Do you know any of the victims personally? If not, stfu. There are a lot more people dying around the world on a daily basis.

I see pastry shops throwing away their breads at the end of the day, biscuit tins getting thrown away when its 2~3 months before expiration. Yet there are still people dying of starvation. Why not go fucking mourn for them? Or is it because they're from fucking third world country so they don't fucking deserve it?

Boohoohoo people die from a gun shooting spree that occur like less than once a month. This is so fucking sad. Get over it. People die everyday.

Ease the fuck off, I feel bad for those lost but this could have been prevented. Cancelling class for 1 day would have seen most of those kids not even around that building, they would have slept in. This type of stuff happens all the time, everyday. How do you think it's like in other countries were people just ride into your village and cut your parents up in front of you. Just because you THINK it was an isolated quarrel the guy shot people in that dorm. That right there should call for a campus wide shut down and made students return to their dorms. Not only for their safety but for the safety of others.

considering that he said he goes to VA Tech on a previous page I think it's not out of line to assume that he does.

The only way this could of been prevented would be if the government gave forced head exams to everybody.

Right, and I'm sure he knows everyone in the entire campus. My previous school was so fucking big you could study there for 3 years and not know 90% of the students.

So what if he studies there, does he know any of the victims? If he does, I'll take back what I said, if not, the stfu statement still stands.

O SHIT MY NEIGHBOUR JUST DIED YESTERDAY I AM GONNA MOURN FOR HIM AT HIS FUNERAL DESPITE NEVER KNOWING HIM. Get over it, there's a funeral every week in a 1 mile radius around my home.

    Same situation here, bitch.

So it's wrong to mourn over a tragedy just because it doesn't directly affect you? Then I must be wrong because reading some of those testimonials on the dead brought a little mist to my eye. It's a fucking sad event, why are you being a douche?

I am not against mourning, I believe some human beings have feelings of compassion unlike me, but blowing shit way out of proportion and acting like it's a fucking big tragedy irks me.

What happened is a tragedy. It will happen again though, and again and again. People will always kill people or want to kill people.

I dont know if your refering to me, if so you can kindly shut the hell up. I've never lost a friend to something like this but I do know how it feels to lose someone very very close to you suddenly without notice.

I don't think I need to know any of the victims personally for something like this to affect me. Do you know where I should have been when that shooting in Norris happened? I should have been walking by the building. I walk from Johnston, past Norris to McBryde between 9 and 10am every M,W,F. Never really at the same time, so who knows when it would have been that day.

I could have been walking by the building when the shots were fired. Some of my friends were in Norris when it happened. Shut the fuck up about what I can say and what I can say--you don't have any idea what the hell half of us are going through at the moment.

I got a message on facebook from someone I haven't talked to in ages. She said two friends of hers were shot in Norris. Yeah. Then people I am with all the time at the Wesley Foundation on campus, about a quarter of them know someone that was shot and is either dead or wounded. I talk with them, comfort them--sit with them. Whatever. I don't appreciate your fucking attitude and telling me to shut up.

Try to think about the situation like you lived here. Let us mourn and get through this first, and then maybe we can talk about security and shit later. The administration didn't handle anything wrong. At all. Most of campus would agree with me on that. This kind of place, you wouldn't expect anything like this to happen. We don't have anything like this happen around here. We're in the country. We don't have a lot of arrests, crime, anything. You wouldn't ever imagine to have this here.

Just shut the fuck up and don't try to fix our problem.

Genosync, you have every right to be upset about the ordeal, but why are you being a complete douche about it to arlania? What arlania said was hardly offensive and a respectable opinion. He isn't blaming anyone, so calm down.

Maybe because Geno hasn't responded to arlania at all?

Its bullshit to say "well, they should have shut down the campus! It would have stopped everything!" Sure it would, but we only know that now. If someone is murdered in a residential neighborhood the police don't fucking lock down the entire place and evacuate every single resident. Why would they act any differently for a college campus? There's no way that the President or Chief of Police knew that this second shooting would happen, but that won't stop people relying on hindsight from blaming them for it.

I'm basing what I write on the quotes above me, I assume that Geno quoted arlania.

Again, it has hardly anything to do with blame. It's about preventing it from happening again. Closing down the campus for a day after a disturbance seems very logical to me(even if small). Also, the english essays were a sign of a problem that teachers and students admit seeing. After events like Colimbine(sic), it has become clear that signs(like excessive violence and bullying) usually pop up way before hand.

Suggesting that it would have saved a lot of lives doesn't mean you are suggesting someone is to be blamed. We can only hope that what happened can be used to prevent something like this in the future.

No one is blaming them, what's done is done. They could have possibly prevented this but we wont ever know. A campus shooting and a town shooting are different. You have a lot of kids, all suffering from stress, isolated in a given area with free reign of pretty much everywhere. What we can learn however is that colleges need a little more in terms of security and countermeasures to this type of thing. I know the college I attended had it's own security force right on campus, not like mall security but actual police enforcement.

Didn't want to respond to this, but it's getting to me, chill out guys. Friends, acquaintances, people are dead. I live a while away and know nobody who went there, but I was torn apart by this. The last thing people want to do right now is argue and hear opinions.

Yea, people do die everyday who don't get deserved attention, but where it happened was one of the most unexpected places for it to happen. And the people who it happened to were the most unexpected people. It hits home a lot harder and to greater horror than places where it's common. That doesn't mean they're any more important, but when it's even remotely immediate to you, it will always have a greater effect, human nature.

People should definately pay more attention to the atrocities we're pretty much blind to. But jesus, stop arguing for a bit, let it rest. If anything, send angry e mails to the media who blow it up, exploit victims and ignore reporting anything that ISN'T immediate (Darfur anyone?). Send them to the politicians who use it for personal gain. Send it to fucking geraldo who jumps the gun to get people to watch. Not to the people who aren't used to it and aren't benefiting from it in any respect.

Fixed for you, even though you don't seem to agree.
Personally, I agree with this. As the rest of the country we have a responsibility to think about things like this and determine how to react, and then do what we can to prevent it.

Syn, you seem to have an interesting definition of "world class tragedy".
