I once woke up with a cockroach in my mouth when I was on holiday in Jamaica, I was totally gone and actually thought it was my tongue being an asshole, after a while I spat it back out (pretty much asleep) and it crawled back in later, I only woke up after my friend started screaming and I spat it out again and looked in horror at what was in my mouth.

you wouldn't believe the amount of mouthwash I drank and toothpaste I ate.

despite that though, I'm not scared of cockroaches so I find it kinda funny, unlike the spider story, I fucking hate spiders...

But to join the convo, it's spiders and wasps for me. When I was about 8 years old, me, my 6 and 4 year old brothers were hanging out on the porch at our house in Texas.

Me and my 6 year old brother decided to throw rocks at this wasps nest hanging on the side of the house next door. Genius, I know. I was there.

So anyways after all of the fun we had with that, my poor little innocent 4 year old brother who was on the porch watching the whole time, had a wasp the size of a fucking baseball land on his forehead. it was all big and red and sinister looking. I think we all stood there for like 5 minutes, him paralyzed in fear, when he finally freaked out and got up to run and it stung him right on the head.

It looked like he had a conjoined fetus on his face for about a week or two.

Gives me the heebs to this day thinking about the size of that wasp.

    Grosssss...
I'm not too scared of bees though, mainly because I've never gotten stung by them. I have a friend who literally drops anything and everything that he might be carrying and runs at the sight of a bee. What makes it interesting is that he's a damn good martial artist (or was?) and just bolts when he hears the buzzing.

What's interesting is that both spiders and bees are two of the most intriguing of the world's creatures. I bet I also don't mind bees because I love honey, what the fuck do spiders give me that I can eat!?

I was never afraid of spiders until I moved to the southern US. Was staying on a guest house on my Uncle's property, woke and rolled over to a tarantula on the other side of the window. Scared the living shit out of me, and now even the tiniest spider makes me shake in fear ;x

I feel bad for the people on my old LS's vent server-- spider dropped down in front of me/my monitor while in XI and I proceeded to let out a blood wrenching scream before flinging myself backwards out of my chair XD Oops!

Not according to Snopes, but I'm not going to claim that they're 100% right. Just something to think about.

the "7 spiders a year" was before the internet lol. well back when having a 9600 connection was considered "the shit" and everything was local BBS's haha. i dont doubt the possibility that its false, but i can definately see the truth in it.

CBT might be a good approach as someone else already posted. flooding is a pretty good technique if you're not heart-attack prone D:

Supposibly you eat 8 (ish) spiders every year in your sleep.
They crawl into your mouth every once in awhile.
A Group of people filmed different sleeping situations for a year to validate this.
But who knows, JUST putting it out there.. <3

It's life time I think, not "per year", but I kinda have hard time to believe it either way.
I've woke up once with a spider on my pillow, so it's not impossible I guess to swallow one, but I cant see that happening too often.
It's not 7 spiders a year, but just bugs in general. Most, if not all insects are attracted to warm and damp places, and they can sense the heat coming from your mouth when you sleep (assuming you sleep with your mouth open, which I think almost everyone does).
I can definitively believe "bug". Hell...I probably eat more every year talking outside.

If anyone wants me, I'll be rocking quietly in the corner.

That is giving me the most awful mental image right now. If that ever happened to me (unlikely, as I don't think I ever want to be within touching range of a spider) I would just freak out. I can't imagine much worse than having one spider explode into lots of tiny ones.

I don't like killing things, but god, if there's a spider in my house it's them or me.
The spider I'm talking about was not that big. I said "big" according to my canadian spider standard, not USA/world standard. Was maybe 1 inch big with the white pocket behind, and the babies were really small.
I wouldnt have poked that spider if it was a 4-5 inches one for sure...

Btw, did anyone ever seen a moskitos explode after drinking too much blood? Wait till it get big after sucking your blood, touch it with your finger and watch it fall apart.
