While most people will agree, there is always a group who are ready to blame something modern for all of the ills of society.

In the late 50's and early 60's, rock and roll music, specifically Elvis, caused teens to do wild thing like chewing gum in class and sometimes smoke. You see, back then was a much simpler, innocent time. Teenage pregnancy hadn't even been invented yet. Nothing funny whatsoever was going on when a girl started to gain a little weight around the midsection, went to visit an aunt for several months, then magically came back thin. Or shotgun weddings, and 4-5 months later the woman "prematurely" gave birth to a full-term baby. Nope, it was all a happy Norman Rockwell painting, and the world was full of sock-hops, hootenannies, and malted shakes at the corner malt shop. Segregation didn't exist, because people pretended that it didn't. And pay no mind to those bachelor uncles and spinster aunts- they just didn't find the right person to marry and raise 2.5 children in the loving embrace of suburbia. (Hey, let's introduce that bachelor uncle and spinster aunt, they'd get along smashingly!) Yup, everything was swell and dandy. Oh, except for the looming threat of thermonuclear annihilation from the commies.

But anyway, people love to find scape goats- rock and roll, movies, comic books, cartoons, heavy metal, rap, video games, etc. Did you know that before Elvis recorded Heartbreak Hotel in 1956, there was absolutely no violence, murders, or wars ever? For every generation, there are many vocal people do not want to admit that within humans beats a dark heart capable of horrors, so they try their best to shift the blame to anything else instead of where it belongs, the people who commit the crimes.

The first thing I thought of when I saw the shootings on the news was "HOW WILL /b/ REACT?"
"vtec kicked in yo" was standard.

Also, I caught this little gem:

This reminds me of something funny that I heard on the radio this morning on my drive to work.

Some guy called in saying that people need to stop blaming others about things like this, and how this happens with everything (which I completely agree with). I change stations because I'm tired of hearing about this already, and some woman is talking on another station, "I BLAME THE GOVERNMENT...." I almost had to pull over because I was laughing so hard.

Video games taught me that its ok to kill cops as long as you've unlocked the police bribes at your safehouse.

I think video games are a way to prevent going to kill someone because it's a way to vent out your frustration. If I'm pissed at someone it's really easy to just go on CS and shoot kids...but I'd never, EVER do that in real life.

I don't know, I think linking video games and violence in young children is atleast not as stupid as linking it to adults who know the difference between what is fake and what is reality.

Blaming the VT shooting on video games is utterly retarded.

Wii bowling sends people into homocidal rages. Fact.

When video games are gone, can we start banning rap music?

No, rap music causes middle-aged to old men to use inappropriate language. Didn't you know that well-to-do white men aged 45-70 are the target audience of rap? Don Imus is a huge Wu-Tang fan, he constantly quoted their lyrics nearly ever...

I hope this doesn't turn into Columbine PartII w/ politicians. I still have disgust for all the people that blamed it on everything but the shooters back then. I guess the silver lining in the possible blame-game is that it can help me figure out who I DON'T want to vote for in 08 if some make a big deal out of it.

Last time I checked the total death count related to religious texts written ( and still unproven ) by men was a couple of notches higher than deaths even remotely related to media.

    Morales for the win.

lol, it has already begun. Tonight all teachers where my Mom and Friend work are required to go to a urgent board meeting about safety in the school, last time this happened was 9/11 and before that was Columbine.

Too bad the statistics show violent crime has gone down with the release of video games. We did a whole thread on this.

There have been tons of situations I wanted to kill someone but I played some FPS instead for a few hours.

I agree with Dr. Phil and hillary Clinton... videogames are BAD!!!!
they bring out the violent tendencies in us...
I mean clearly playing a game like GTA MAKES people go out and kill... because why kill in a videogame (w/o consequences) when you can kill in real life? The game FORCES its player to act this way, its not the person's history or family problems that cause a murderous rampage... it's the fact that violent videogames BRAINWASH the kids playing them! Videogames are bad, videogames are evil! BAN ALL VIDEOGAMES!!!!!!!!111111oneoneoneoneuno

    yeah... >.>;
