    New Marilyn Manson album

    http://www.myspace.com/marilynmanson

First track is available for listening. It's interesting. It's definitely more reminiscent of Antichrist Superstar / Mechanical Animals. I wasn't really feeling the whole evil show tunes thing he was doing for a while with his most recent two albums.

At least from what I can tell with this one track, he seems to be returning to his roots, which is in my opinion a good thing. Time will tell, I suppose, when the new album is released.

Pardon me, but do you mind if I leave my bag of politics here? It's really full and I have something sarcastic to say.

Song sounds really good. He has always been a musical genius imo although i don't like his stage act his music is on my Ipod.

The only full song I've ever liked of his was Beautiful People, but this new one sounds pretty good. Was never a huge MM fan, but a good song is a good song.

Not to bash Manson or anything, but I believe a big part of his early success (Portrait of an American Family, Smells like Children, AC Super Star) was largely due to Trent Reznor producing his music. I never got into anything after AC...it just didn't sound as good to me. I also liked Daisy Berkowicz as their guitarist and songwriter. Oh well.

I definitely feel you on the ACS comment. I think this has a lot of potential though. It sounds very natural. It doesn't sound like he's trying too hard, while Holy Wood and Golden age of the Grotesque felt unbelievably "forced". He even said so himself in a recent interview, when talked about why he's taken so long to put out a new album. He said that for the past 3-4 years he's just been dead inside, partially due to his poor choice in relationships. That he sits down to make music and nothing comes out. He has to force it out. Apparently he broke up / divorced the woman he was with last year, and he said after that he felt inspired for the first time in probably 5 years. That's what I think was completely lacking from HW and GAotG: inspiration. He was making albums just to continue the trend he had started.

PoaAF and ACS were masterpieces in my opinion, Mechanical Animals was "pretty good", and the rest of the albums had like one good track (The Fall of Adam, can't even remember from GAotG). As long as this one fits somewhere in between ACS and MA I'll be thrilled, because listening to old school Manson really takes me back to my teen years, and I like to reflect on the events of my past and how they were able to lead me to my future.

Do you have the actual promo CD, or just the images slid across your desk? If you have the actual CD, are there any other songs on it? Promos usually have a limited # of tracks don't they?

    It's 2 tracks.

    1. Heart-Shaped Glasses (radio edit) which is 3:32
    2. Heart-Shaped Glasses (album version) which is 5:06

And by sliding across my desk, I mean leaked to the internet. :D

Edit: gimme a min and i'll post a rapidshare link, if that's ok?

It's kinda growing on me, but the lyrics are kind of bizarre.

    Code:
She reminds me of the one in school,
when I was gutted she was dressed in white.
And I couldn’t take my eyes off her,
but that’s not what I took off that night,.
She’ll never cover up what we did with her dress.
    No.
She said “kiss me it’ll heal,
    but it won’t forget”.
    “Kiss me it’ll heal,
    but it won’t forget”.

I don’t mind you keeping me on pins and needles.
If I could stick to you,
    and could stick me too.

    Chorus:

    Don’t break,
    Don’t break my heart,
and I won’t break your heart shaped glasses.
    Little girl,
little girl you should close your eyes,
that blue is getting me high.
    Don’t break,
    Don’t break my heart,
and I won’t break your heart shaped glasses.
    Little girl,
little girl you should close your eyes,
that blue is getting me high.
    Making me low.
That blue is getting me high.
    Making me low.

She reminds me of the one I knew that cut up the negatives of my life.
I couldn’t take my hands off her,
she wouldn’t let me be anywhere but inside.

I don’t mind you keeping me on pins and needles.
If I could stick to you,
    and could stick me too.

    (Chorus)

She’ll never cover up what we do with the dress.
    No.
She said “kiss me it’ll heal,
    but it won’t forget”.
    “Kiss me it’ll heal,
    but it won’t forget”.

I don’t mind you keeping me on pins and needles.
If I could stick to you,
    and could stick me too.

    (Chorus)
Actually, I kind of like the tune now. But the lyrics..?

Manson reminds me of JP (or is it the other way around) in that movie Grandma's Boy...the dude that talked like a robot.

Everyone I know irl (that gives a shit) thinks Golden Age is his best album. You people are all crazy. The song on Myspace is alright but nothing special I think. It sounds, well, like Antichrist Superstar. I liked the branching out he was doing.

I might consider listening to Manson again if Timbaland produced one of his albums.
