This should be an interesting poll. However, regardless of the vote, the only true definition of color is the RGB (or Lab or CMYK or whatever colorspace you wish to use) values, not popular opinion based on how individual people think they perceive it.

I could take a printout (on the appropriate paper) of an e.body from the model viewer in to a paint store that does computer color matching, and they'll tell me what color it is better than anyone can just by eyeballing it. One of those places that make mugs and t-shirts may be able to do it, too, directly from an image file.

And yes, this still applies even when popular opinion says its blue. It won't prove its blue like a computer analysis would, but like I said, it should be an interesting poll, nonetheless.

The names for the swatches are just the names they have in Photoshop CS2, I didn't name them myself or anything. So if someone has a problem with the name of the winning color, they'll have to write Adobe and take it up with them.

Why guess? Let's take a more scientific approach. The average color for most of the bluish/purplish image is:

    R55 G45 B95
Which is closest to none of the swatches displayed.

However, on the highlighted part (around the shoulders) the average is:

    R90 G70 B145

Which is closest to swatch 2.

That being said, with the way the gear is shaded from the lighting, I state that the color is none of the swatches listed, and is instead this color:

those voters choosing a color that looks like it could possibly actually be the real color would solve it better

I'm not questioning the name of the swatches, I just meant if everyone voted e.body was pink, it wouldn't prove its pink. Only a computer analysis can do that, as opposed to a bunch of people just eyeballing it and stating what color they personally perceive it as.

The point isn't to find the exact color, that's easy to do. The point is to pick the color it is most similar to from a list of predefined colors we know the names of. You can't name that color because you just used the eyedropper to get it from the picture of the Hauberk. Good job accomplishing nothing.

Wasn't it said last time that people see different colors based on their own eyes and the type of monitor they have?

Except that I didn't use the eyedropper. Good job at making stupid assumptions. I stand by my obvservation. None of your swatches is close enough to the color. They either contain none of one of the primary colors, too much of one, or a complete imbalance of all 3.

That's actually almost exactly the RGB value I came up with the first time this debate came around.

It's also the color depicted in my avatar, if you look closely at the photoshop color panel RGB markers.

someone claimed they had jesus's eyes, and used his friend, who possesses jesus's ears, as an example of why he's better than you.

You're missing the point entirely. If the swatches were the actual colors, or very close colors of the Hauberk, people would just pick the actual color, and then we would know absolutely nothing about said color. I took all of the swatches from Cyan Blue to Violet Magent in the default swatch set in Photoshop and put them there because they have names.

The left one, which not coincidentally is about as close to Dark Slate Blue as you can get. There, it now has a name, smartass. Thread over.

or, if you think that's not close, Slate Blue #4 is:

But that still is not what he asked. he said pick from the colors he put up. Not find something you feel is closer and color and go with that. Its his game, his rules. I voted 4.

6 and 7 look exactly the same to me, can't figure out why 6 has way more votes than 7. Same thing with 4 and 5, they look like the same RGB values.
