3 other threads. Still doesn't beat Petty Hate Machine or Downward Spiral.
NIN's my favorite group (or man)...I think Trent lost his touch though. I don't think he'll ever write anything as good as The Downward Spiral or The Fragile. Probably because he's clean now.
Edit: Anyway, heard the album. It's okay. There's a few good tracks. Certainly more listenable than With Teeth in my opinion.
I liked With Teeth a bit more than this one. My personal ranking of the major albums is:
The Fragile
Downward Spiral
Broken
Pretty Hate Machine
With Teeth
Year Zero
Capital G is probably my favorite track on Year Zero so far.
I enjoyed it quite a bit. still seems (like "with teeth") to be to happy for NIN though. I like the darker albums, broken being my favorite. I'd say it has alot to do with trent cleaning up but o well, atleast its less radio rock than with teeth was
I definitely think they went downhill going from With Teeth to this. Year Zero seems to have a good bit of hip hop influence in it. Maybe that's just me. Only 2-3 songs on their that I really like as opposed to almost all of them on With Teeth.
Actually you're absolutely right about the hip-hop influence. Trent said himself said that Public Enemy was an inspiration for this album. Good catch.Originally Posted by Pyro

Anytime someone or a band goes clean the music goes down hill....I hate to say this but it is very true..
Motely Crue
Aerosmith
Metallica
Korn
NIN (now)
the list is way too long
I think its also due to getting older too...The older you get the more your taste in music will change..I always told myself that my music taste would never change...
Well Im 31 now and it has changed alot...I find myself rocking the Dave matthews band >.> When it use to be Metallica Megadeath,Korn,Coal Chamber and all that shit
I still listen to those bands but not near as much as when I was in my 20's
So older age+drug free 90% of the time will = Much less angst and power in the music...Not to say its still not from the heart (I believe Trent has and always will write from the heart) Its just not as powerfull as it once was >.<
btw the new album is ok but nothing he has down since Downward Spiral has ever came close to the feeling that was on that album...Downward Spiral was Trent's Master of Puppets...
i'm obviously biased but i can't comprehend people putting this near the bottom of the list, it's all opinion though. to me the newest stuff is as good if it isn't better than my other favorites, which bounce around between tds & the fragile & the perfect drug.
Trent did something pretty cool the other night....as part of his ARG they gave a select few people some cellphones and told them to wait for a call on April 18th. The call was for a meeting of a fictional resistance group ( http://www.opensourceresistance.net/ ). They met up in a parking lot and shipped them to an abandoned warehouse in LA in a rickety old bus with the windows all painted black and stuff.
There was a fake resistance meeting, and then they took then to the basement of the warehouse and there waiting to play a surprise underground show was NIN. They played a short set until at the end it was broken up with a SWAT team (obviously staged) and they were all sent home. Pretty cool and nice surprise for these fans.
They videotaped the whole thing, you can watch the meeting here, and the free concert. They played: Beginning of the End, Survivalism, Last, March of the Pigs, We're In This Together, and the Frail...

Year Zero cd is grey/brown...it turns to white when you put it in the CD player. I guess heat changes the color of the disc.
