Gawd, but AGAIN:Exactly, and since we don't know whether or not this kid was joking, except based on our assumptions, I think we're all in agreement

DID

THREATEN
ANYBODY
Its incredibly different to a person saying they will burn the school in which YOU are currently IN.
And if i were to agree with you, then we would have no choice but to leave this whole issue in the gray area, because taking any stance on this would be a assumption with the amount of info and speculation we have.
*sigh*You're from Puerto Rico, and you're excluding yourself? lol
Its very ennoying when Americans use this as some sort of point. If you had any knowledge (which you can demostrate to me if you think im wrong) about our culture, history, and current problems, you'd know we don't think like you.
Your original comment was that if someone said "I want to burn down the school I am currently in" and was not joking, they should be apprehended. And you're saying that if someone said "I often get angry enough that I really want to kill people", and this person was not joking, this person should not be apprehended, even if it was to get psychiatric help?Originally Posted by Kuya
Nice, hope we have more of these incidents in the future. So much for warning signs.

i would usually find it to be hilarious, not right now thoughAt Oregon's Lewis & Clark College, another student was detained by campus police Wednesday shortly before a vigil for the Virginia Tech victims when he was spotted wearing an ammunition belt. Portland police later determined that it was "a fashion accessory" made of spent ammunition, and said the man did not have a weapon. The belt was confiscated.![]()
How many people in America make off-handed remarks about killing someone, or causing some sort of violence, without having any actual resolution or thought behind them every day?Originally Posted by divisortheory

I don't think its a good idea to start arresting people because they make someone personally uncomfortable, unless real malice and intent can be shown. Its all in the tone/expression when being said, but in situations where you aren't familar with the person and can't tell, I don't agree w/ your "arrest regardless" attitude. At the most, telling a teacher, who should tell the school, who should tell a guidance counsoler/psychaitrist is an appropriate action. Potentially ruining somebodies life by having them arrested and charged for something that was probably meaningless just wouldn't sit well for me, esp. when the # of people who are actually dangerous is such a minority.
Dude, think about that phrase for a moment, really think hard on it. Not only is this a paraphrased statement, but also its very fucking redundant that someone might say that they can get angry enough to kill people. I'd respond with: No shit."I often get angry enough that I really want to kill people",
Edit: And as for the word often, he needs anger management, not a fucking trip to a cop car.

Other than the fact that i wasn't talking about your leadership, but Americans in general, i did make one mistake, i made a general statement. Teehee.I dunno, you guys have been pretty heavy on the hateorade after 9/11, the inmigrant issue, and now this.

WRONG, americans in general do not share the views you're talking about.
So it's ok to apply the generalization to me, and to "americans in general" even though neither I nor "americans in general" agree with pretty much everything coming out of our country right now, but it's not ok to apply the generalization to you, because "puerto ricans don't think like us".If you had any knowledge (which you can demostrate to me if you think im wrong) about our culture, history, and current problems, you'd know we don't think like you.
whatever, get that shit out of here. You're an American, you're included, if you don't like it encourage your country's leadership to withdraw.

The day after "V-tec" happened, something like 180 people were killed in Baghdad alone. Where's all the discussion and media field day about that?
You know, when it was at the point when we knew a school massacre had taken place, but not who was behind it or why, I thought of the possibility that this was the first in a new wave of terror attacks on soft targets throughout the US. Universities, shopping malls, office parks, kindergartens, etc. You got to figure that it can't be long before we start seeing politically motivated suicide attacks here.
As the President says, "we've got to keep the fighting overseas so that it doesn't happen at home."Originally Posted by Stilgar

The OP reminding me of something that I witnessed this week, kinda freaked me out...
I work in the computer lab on my campus here. Wednesday morning I had a graveyard shift, midnight to 8 AM.
So around the middle of the shift this weird student comes in and starts wandering around. He had a student ID and all that so he was legit (as in not one of those homeless people who try to sneak in so they can sleep in the lab).
Anyway he starts harassing people and what-not. He overhears a few girls discussing the V-tech incident. He butts into the conversation "Thats nothing, I could do something like that." Very cocky attitude, tough guy personality.
You can be damn sure that I was uncomfortable with all this. Was he joking? He didn't seem like it, but who knows. Maybe this was all his own sick sense of humor.
We called the campus police and had him removed. He's banned from the labs from now on. My question is - do you feel like that is enough action, or does this situation justify more? I can't help feeling like this guy needs to be evaluated or something before he is even allowed to enter the campus.
I mean, lets say worst case scenario this guy is indeed a psycho who is gonna come in one day guns blazing. Just how much good is being "banned" from the computer lab gonna do? He can just wait till somebody else opens the door. I'm not saying the guy needs to be put in a padded cell for the rest of his life, but c'mon, the least they can do is perform some kind of personal evaluation or something.
huh? that just sounds like some stupid kid boasting he's good at some video game. doesn't sound like a psycho killer to me
unless i'm reading it wrong
Evaluated, yes, thrown in prison, no.
At the very least, even if someone doesn't mean it, they should be evaluated on the grounds of being a dumbass for saying it in the first place. But I don't think giving your opinion on something should be criminal, nor off-hand harmless remarks.
