So if FF13 is being developed based on PS3 technology, and SE may announce the new FF13 title on the wii... is it for PS3 or Wii?

FFXIII and Versus are being based on the PS3.... the new FFXIII title will NOT be the original FFXIII but a spin off, like Agito and Haresis... that's what they meant.

about random battle, there was a previous interview with two of the designers and they said there will not likely be a single "random" battle in FF13 (when i say FF13 i mean the single game, not all of the FF13 games as a whole), and every battle in there would be somehow relevent to the story progression, which in turn makes every battle to have a clear goal: some of them you need to eliminate all enemies, some of them you need to kill key enemies to penetrate their defense or escape, and some of them you might want to change the surrounding "structures" (i took it as it meant there are environmental items like buildings and machines you can attack to affect the battle, like some of them in FF10)... this also means that when you are in the enemy base you may have to fight a lot of battles while when you are traveling in the wild there wouldn't be that many, or any at all

hm, i really just posted the new info released recently up front, but reading the thread it seems like a lot of people don't know a lot of the stuff revealed before, like the story background in FF13, versus, and agito, amoung other details... should i add them to the first post?

If that's how it will be conducted it could be very fun and different... I don't mind doing missions instead of random mobs on the map.

As far as new info goes... maybe you should just put it all in a new post.

anyone else taking a look at the release dates on some of the games there?

FF Tactics - May 10th (Japan)
    FF12 rev. Wings - April 26th
    FF aniversary(FF1) - April 19th(yesterday)

Im somewhat jealous of Japan, but add about 5-6 months to those times and they should be releasing them in the US about that time.

    Gogo Christmas FF Rush?

Using ATB doesn't mean they're going backwards especially if they expand on it, I reckon it'll be more like White Knight in regards to the interactive scenes, perhaps with a little more control like FFVII/I.

Although it makes me sad they won't use anymore medieval esque settings (at least for a while) I'm looking forward to this.
I completly agree with you on that. While turn based battle were fun long time ago, gameplay design shouldn't take step back and give us less interactive content.

Personally, I dont think it's possible for a turn based game to become strategic, they always turn out in a spam fest where you use the same overpowered move over and over, and heal when needed. The absence of real strategy in a system that is suposed to be based on strategy make it kinda pointless.

I also prefer medieval setting (ff9 probably had my favorite world), but a science fiction setting when done correctly could be just as good.

Also I think the Wii game is a different game altogether, not really a subsitute for the main games on the PS3. At least that's what I think you meant.
It's impossible to voice it louder than the people who loved FF12. They named that game the best game of all time or something, didn't they? It surely wasn't...
Ahaha, I guess you're right in that respect. I meant all I hear is people complaining about it, the ones who like it or don't mind it don't really say much.

Or Tales of Symphonia/Abyss fighting, cause that is just so much fun.
KH is insanely fun even though you are "button mashing", but really that is such a degrading term, because the only button you "mash" is the X button, every other button is used pretty precisely. You can't really have an action game (or game in general) where the attack button (or main command) isn't overly used, in that respect you could call all games button mashers in one aspect or another. This is just me defending KH though, nothing really to do with FF in general...
Oh don't get me wrong, I loved and adored KH and KH2's battle systems .

Wouldn't it be more likely that this is the next MMO that they've released some pictures for but have never revealed fully?

it could be anything really, wii is the most recent rumor because of how frequent SE and nintendo have been interacting, especially how both the producer and the director have commented on FF13 on nintendo magazines... but it could really just be about FFCC: crystal bearers

It could just as likely be an FF7 remake... who knows.

But most fingers point at a new FF13 installment.

Today Square-Enix(R) announced Final Fantasy XIII: Chocobo Racing Sim for the popular Nintendo(R) Wii console system. This exciting new entry into the Fabula Nova Crystallis will make use of the unique Wii controllers so players feel like they are actually in the game. Either it's fake, or Square are pulling a fast one because they got something bigger to announce.

Don't most people agree, though, that Nomura's character designs are lame? You know, all the complaints about effete emo kid main leads and faceless, boring, stock supporting characters?

For my money the best FF characters were the ones from the 16-bit era. Maybe that's because they made up with backstory and personality what they couldn't show with graphics. I'd actually have to go with FF12's characters (mainly Balthier, Ashe, and Basche) over any Nomura designs, largely in part because of the excellent VA in the game, which helped a lot to flesh them out.

To be honest, VA could've gone either way. A voice and background/character personality doesn't make a design good or bad, if you didn't like the characters themselves that's probably the writers fault or something. But I agree many of his characters attitudes were lame and fitted the look of the character (which is a good thing and bad thing if you know what I mean).

So it's not largely Nomura's fault for shitty characters, just shitty character designs, which he's done a lot of but also a few good ones.

Who was the character designer for FF4, 5 and 6, and what is he doing nowadays?
