Hay, should I just wait for the "third version" (Opal Version with Giratina or whatever the Ghost/Dragon is called as the mascot I'm guessing) of this generation? If I want/need DP by then they should be cheaper.
i just might do this tooOriginally Posted by Sagacious Sundi

every single time, i had to sell the original and buy the sister counterpart, a big waste of money... the perfects dont take long to release anyway, so seems like a good idea to me
but rather.. im waiting on a G/S remake
You totally ruin the whole "Gotta catch 'em all" catch phrase if you don't buy all the games too !
Perhaps I'm just a weirdo that likes to waste money...
Just got home from Gamecrazy, the two guys working there were already playing it. I'm excited! I've been waiting for this for a while :D

I don't know which pokemon I want, the penguin is adorable but I've always been an addict to fire pokemon.
Ok so I've been wondering this. How hard is it to "catch them all" now? I stopped playing in red/blue and gah it took forever cause i had no other friends that played.
Exclusives don't mean much anymore, especially with wifi trading and breeding/ditto breeding. It's so easy to get whatever you want. (Except for legendaries)Originally Posted by Lordwafik

What did everyone name their rival?
As far as cloning/item duplication goes that was ruined the moment they added functionality for trading with R/S/E. There is a perfect duplication glitch in Emerald without any negative results that is from the partial save done when you enter Battle Tower. x99 Masterballs on my Emerald, great for catching Legendaries over and over until the EVs and Nature turn out right. So you don't need a flash cart to exploit duplications. It also helps for duplicating berries to remove EVs from pokemon you might get in a trade or duplicating a really good advance gen poke that you don't want to lose.
Also, don't pick the grass starter, he's still just as sucky like someone mentioned he's 4x Ice Weak. Best bet is the Water starter or Fire Starter for that move Syn keeps talking about (Close Combat). Uhmmmmm, I get mine on Monday hopefully have it beaten soon after for trading from my Emerald for legendaries (Zapdos,ArtiWall, Raikou, Suicune, Mewtwo, Jirachi and Celebii, Lugi-Wall and Ho-oh)
Edit:
If anyone wants Pokerus I can dupe someone I have in my PC with it and trade you it sometime after I get the game. Send me a PM.
man reading this thread reminds me of how pissed off i was at my bro for erasing my pokemon game like a day or two after i legit caught all three legendary dogs.
FUCKING SHIT![]()
I've played gold to the end in JP, silver to end in english, crystal like halfway through, emerald to end, sapphire like halfway through, and diamond all the way in jp... and I've NEVER gotten pokerus >_<
I've also only seen one shiny ever, a hoothoot or w/e that owl is called <.<
If/when I get D/P, I'm also going to be confused whether to pick Chimchar (I always pick fire starters) or Piplup.
Regarding shinies, I stopped playing the games after I got pissed off at my friend for stealing my blue Lairon/Aggron (or maybe it's on my Ruby, idk.)
My first shiny was a Zubat caught in like some cave in my Silver. Needless to say it's stuck there because you can't trade from Gold/Silver to Advance Gen because they changed the way EVs and shit worked, not to mention Abilities/Natures. So ya my pink Crobat is gone forever /tear.Originally Posted by Julian

Can somoene explain the new mechanics of the game for someone that stopped playing after red/blue? I'm so confused by all this stuff you guys are talken about but it sounds fun.
That'd take too much time lol.Originally Posted by Daydreamer
You can play decent without knowing any of the technical elements of the game. It's just like SSBM. You can play the game fairly well if you're good without knowing some of the nuances. But with knowledge of the nuances (Wavedashing, L-cancels, Shield-UpSmash, Edge Hogging, etc. for Smash, EVs, double/canceled weaknesses, 4x resistances, Natures, breeding, IVs, EV training, etc. For Pokemon.)
In short, every pokemon has a unique set of IVs, getting duplicate IVd pokemon is rare. The IV is a number that ranged from 0 to 31 and it is a value assigned to each stat of the poke (HP, Atk, Def, SpA, SpD, Spd) at the time you -encounter- it. The Nature of a pokemon is another unique trait of a pokemon although much more controllable (Everstone + Female in Emerald) in breeding. It boosts and reduces 2 stats by 10%. EVs are "effort values" they are a hidden mechanic in the game. Each time your pokemon battles, depending on the pokemon it kills you gain a certain number of EVs of a certain type. For example a Spinarak gets you something like 1 or 2 Spd EVs. The EVs max out at 510 and every 4 of one type raises that stat by one point. One stat can only have up to 255 points, but obviously you stop at 252 because that's the last number divisible by 4.
Basically, the competetive scene consists of breeding your pokemon for IVs and moves (breeding is an entirely different mechanic, but with Emerald it's very predicatable to an extent and easily performed), then once you have the desired IVs and Nature you take the pokemon and EV train it (kill the correct monsters for EV points). This is where Pokerus I mentioned comes in. Pokerus doubles EVs like Macho Brace does, so it gives a potential of x4 EVs or x2 without Macho Brace. After EV training you level it to 100, or as far past 50 as you might need to for the desired moves (usually with Rare Candies because straight training to 100 is just menotonous). Then you have your desired pokemon.
i'm still waiting for my preorder of an Adamant Gible =POriginally Posted by Julian
You don't need lv100 in d/p, you can autoset all levels to either 50 or 100 when wifi battling.
Wow. Sounds a lot more complicated then when I played. I remember back in R/B days it was just "oh, my pokemon is weak to your pokemon, I die in one hit," or visa versa. It sounds like there's a lot more strategy to it now =D.Originally Posted by Maguspk
