edit: Just a quick question. Is it just me or does the person your fighting always get to attack first? even when im like 10 levels higher than someone they go first.

Sounds like you have an incredibly slow Pokemon in the front, or you've equipped it with an item that reduces speed (Macho Brace, Iron Ball, etc.).

are they using something like quick attack, extremespeed, or detect or th elike? that always go first?

Nope just normal attacks. Was using Geodude, hes probably slow at attacking.

Yep. He's not quite Slowpoke slow, but he's never anything resembling quick. Still nice later on anyway, but I prefer not opening with him cause of the speed issue. Rock Polish can help, though it still means they'll get the first attack off. Later on, it's nice having a Golem later with Earthquake/Stone Edge/Explosion (or Stealth Rock)/Rock Polish though.

Yeah getting a Golem today by trading with a friend, hoping it will be alot better than Graveler and geodude with speed. Probably won't though.

Well, I'm taking a slight break from Pearl. Got my national 'Dex completed (490 Seen / 490 Caught, missing Celebi, Darkrai and Arceus) with 225 hours played. >_>
Most of my playtime comes from insane amount of breeding.

I gave my brother his DS back (I have PSP myself), but I intend to buy DS Lite when I get paid at the start of next month. I'll be back to battle/trade then, and I can breed any pokemon. They are all neatly sorted by their National Dex number in my boxes.

hoping it will be alot better than Graveler and geodude with speed. Probably won't though.

Geodude has 20 base speed, Graveler has 35, and Golem has 45. Basically what that means is that Geodude is somewhere around the 10th slowest pokemon in the game, and Golem isn't faster than much, but is faster than like Snorlax and Rhyhorn, and tied with Machamp and Marowak.
