But doesn't it make sense that 3x short swords combined make enough material to produce a longsword?Originally Posted by Elmer the Pointy
Currently have completed floor 80. My group goes War/Nin War/nin Mnk/Nin Blu/Nin Rdm/Blm Whm/Blm and i must say once you get the hang of Nyzul + having all the people on Vent or TS durring the runs makes it simple. As far as drops go we have got 2 Askar boots 2 Denali boots and 2 Golliard boots and we are 6 of 9 on boots dropping, as for legs we ar 0 of 4, hand 0 of 6, and body 0 of 3. Finnaly we got discouraged and tired test some new things out(with risking getting a No White magic on boss floor(hence blu)..... or no ninjitsu... even worse) we dropped the blu(he was pissed) and got ourselves a thf to maybe increase drop rate? (3 boss wins 0 drops) The idea of maybe killing each rampart on the floor to increase drop rate at the end (2 boss wins no drop). At this point we are willing to try anything to get increased drop rates anyone have any suggestions? As far as completing Nyzul, i dont think we are gunna complete it until we each get our sets but at the same time since tokens once you hit 61+ you spend more than you get back we have started a 2nd member up and we will have him(our mnk) finish all 100. currently he is on floor 46 and we use his disk when we go to get me (runic disk holder for floor 80) more tokens cuase of the -points earned for completion in higher levels.
Bravura had dealings with the mafia and failed to come through on his end of the bargain. The Don wasn't too happy about this, so he had his men cut off his ear in payment. Seeing as Bravura, the calamitous great axe of eternity, had no ears, they cut off one of his blades instead.Originally Posted by Max™

That's stage three as I recall.
Agonal Bhuj+those three double headed Great Axes=Dynamis Bhuj I believe.
Never seen an Excalibur being upgraded, but I have seen all the stages of a Bravura, didn't realise he meant three short swords as in Caliburn/Dynamis Sword/Etc.
In which case, it's just one short sword that gets longer when you add more material too it?
lol@the mafia though
That's actually not too weird, this game is full of Norse Mythology. Look at Fafnir for example, or a bunch of item names, like the Brigansmen (sp?). Nidhogg is Norse too, I believe, along with Leviathan.Odin, Einherjar, Valhalla, Valkyries...
Just kind of a random feeling spot to add it in is all.
I mean, I'm fully aware that at one point we're dealing with a gigantic two headed lizard that talks like Yoda... TOO ITSELF...
Still just strikes me as weird for Odin to pop up HERE is all.
Just wiki random names you find in the game, theres a ton of stuff that references Norse Mythology. A lot of FF games, and JRPGs in general, seem to be obsessed with it.
Don't count on the mythology to really help with anything in the game. I don't there is any "hidden strategies" in the game that are based on old myths. Fafnir dropping items that are named after things he horded in the original story seems to be one of the few connections in the game.
Oh of course, I'm just correcting him.
Its pretty rare for their stuff to actually make sense, although the gods in sky kinda did, with the seasons corresponding to them. Although having Kirin be a manticore was pretty lol.

They both have spiky horns at least.
I don't think that FFXI has significantly more Norse Mythology than any other type of mythology.Originally Posted by MisterBob

Levithan and Behemoth are also from Christian Mythology.
This picture make me remember how ugly the original kirin was (and the 4 god) before the reskin. I'm still waiting for sea god to get that upgrade...guess it wont happen tho.Originally Posted by Gere
Not really saying it has to be mythologically accurate, it's an RPG not a pseudo-history lesson.
Just an odd choice to me, Odin instead of say, Phoenix, or Alex...
Course, guess Shiva was already taken huh... and wheres the rest of her...his arms?

Well, it does kind of make sense in a way. Alexander the Great conquered much of the world, including the Persian Empire and undid the Gordian Knot which was in Phrygia, now modern day Turkey. This gives him license to be in this expansion. Since Alexander represents light, his opposite Odin is given a door into the expansion as well.Originally Posted by Max™
just wondering.. if Odin's Chamber is now open, and drops are those from the dat mining, then what's the secret of Nyzul weapons?
I like many thought that some craft/special/upgrade item would drop from the final chamber, but since they just opened it without any item additions... this is it?
As for "the new reward" for going to floor 100 again, it cant be nothing out of the ordinary since dats are there.. i guess you'll just get the weapon corresponding to your job maybe?
Yeah, I have a suggestion. Don't get to floor 80 and then dump people so you can get more loot for yourself.Originally Posted by buttermilk
Speaking of doors, Odin is in this expansion merely because of the door they opened into the underworld. Seeing as Odin does look after the fallen (at least the honorable ones that died in battle, Hel has the rest), and by extension, the underworld (in FFXI's view anyway, Asgard and Valhalla were closer to heaven in Norse mythology) then it doesn't matter where he comes from. They portray Alexander as being native to the region, which as you said, makes some sense. They don't portray Odin as being native to the region, however. That isn't his land or his people. He's just there because they opened a portal. So it naturally makes more sense that whatever comes through that portal be as far from native as possible.Originally Posted by Septimus
However, the real liberties they are taking with Odin are his demeanor. Norse mythology Odin isn't evil, and is more concerned with keeping the law, honor, and fairness both on and off the battlefield. Given that there wasn't really much of an actual law to keep, it was more in the sense of enforcing contracts and oaths, and keeping people honest. He represents wisdom and war, but not senseless bloodshed. Kinda like Athena in Greek mythology (who also represented wisdom and war), as opposed to Ares (who was associated more with the senseless bloodshed side of war). However, one point of note in Norse mythology is that they rarely intervened in human affairs unlike the Greek pantheon. Odin mostly just looked after the gods and giants, and the only humans he ever had anything to do with were the ones that the valkyries brought him.
On the other hand, they haven't revealed Odin to be necessarily evil yet. All Odin himself has done so far is grant an oath and is enforcing it, which is all within expectation of Odin. So it could be that Odin is more neutral than we're being led to believe, and its only his demon followers he picked up that have other plans.
uhmm...He's just there because they opened a portal.
If Odin was summoned by chance, why the whole affair with Alexander in the first Age of Judge (the one portraited) ? and if that was the time he had been summoned through the portal, why coming back now, again, to oppose Alexander?
probably one should think of Odin Prime as an avatar with very few ties with the mythological one; the portal to the underworld made him aware of Aht Urghan, and the presence of a light Avatar made him react naturally, opposing it. so maybe In the end what destroyed Alexander was the pure chance of Odin being there?
This, or Odin appearence is tie with the Ephramadian kingdom; i mean he first came via portal (first Age of Judge), and later the decimation of the whole arrapago realm combined with the portal being still there somehow caused his comeback, with subsequent pact with Luzaf and imminent confrontation with Alexander as Luzaf probably asked. cant be chance that the portal is in Arrapago.
Else, the mentioning of Luzaf "probably being the next rider" makes me think that the first Odin who fought Alexander had been summoned too, maybe guided by another avenger like the elvaan corsair. It'd be nice to learn when the Haazlam accident occurred...
The problem is that Flit refers to Odin as "his malevolence". Also, Imps are his servants, and were servants of the Shadowlord during the great war. This makes it a very strong possibility that Odin was really the dark divinity that empowered the Shadowlord and was mentioned throughout the CoP storyline. (Perhaps Raogrimm was his next intended Dark Rider.)Originally Posted by Khamsin
Razfahd is building a new, stronger body for Alexander to inhabit. In order to maintain a balance, Odin would have to be brought back somehow- the results of the experiments in Hazhalm Testing Grounds were probably the means of that balance.Originally Posted by Tomino
The Odin summoning would most likely be considered destiny, you can't summon Alexander without Odin and vice versa.
