This caused them to sleep inside of crystals. Then the meltdown released that energy which fused with 8 creatures (some warrior, a "titan" (an extinct species of beastmen?), a serpent, a bird, an Elvaan queen, a Hume hermit, a machine, and a knight and his horse) creating the "celestial" avatars we know. It seems as though the things they fused with are merely vessels now, with the sentience coming from the god. Or they didn't fuse with anything, and the energy released simply became crystals, and the avatars we see in the protocrystals are the actual gods themselves.
Didn't the meltdown happened before the creation of the 5 races though? That would rule out shiva, ifrit and ramuh.
Ramuh was an olduum I believe

    Re: Nyzul Weapon Discussion

If you choose a certain option in the quest for the Olduum ring, he mentions that the Olduum civilization based their stuff on the Ramuh constellation legend, and the old guy says something to the effect of "but you never how true those stories are." So, the pre-avatar Ramuh man came before the Olduum civilization (the Olduum staff is what the brightest star in Ramuh's constellation is based on), if the legends are true.

Also, found the Yve'noile dialogue I was talking about:

Yve'noile : We Zilart harnessed the five true crystals' power, divided it elementally, and succeeded in containing it in a smaller form.
Yve'noile : However, during the Meltdown, the energy of these smaller crystals was simultaneously released and spread to the far reaches of Vana'diel.
Yve'noile : Over the centuries, that energy accumulated inside the bodies of living beings on this planet, causing them to crystallize. Thus they took the form of the crystals that are found throughout Vana'diel.

So I guess the legends are real. Maybe Altana didn't immortalize them in the sky, but they seem to have been living things (and a machine?) before, but since Carby calls them the "old gods" then it is safe to assume they are what I said before, half-god (their power+sentience?) and half-stuff (their vessel/body?). Whether Ifrit/Titan/Levi/Garuda/Shiva's brightest star thingies are real is unknown (we know the Olduum staff, the Gordi/eus, and Sleipnir are real). Maybe they just give them power, like how Ramuh uses his staff, the Gordeus is essential to Alex, and Sleipnir assists Odin.

    "olduum" isn't a race, it's a civilization.

"Caesar was a Roman" doesn't imply race.

    Re: Nyzul Weapon Discussion

Zilart and Kuluu were races that lived back then weren't they?

edit: ALSO in tavnazia the guard npcs says something like

"I remember hearing tales of how the shadow lord called up these bloodthirsty beasts from the depths of hell, where their dark leader awaited in slumber(Probably odin?)

Anyone remember if that CS in selbina how that leaderish person looked like?

Technically, you'd have to say, Caesar was a Human to imply race.

Has anyone with the runic key attempted to trade a floor 100 weapon to the rune? Maybe it will allow you to warp the the top. Probably not, but I haven't seen it tried anywhere.

I'm thinking Ramuh and Olduum are connected somehow, just a hunch

Yeah, forget what I said. Upon rereading stuff, Ramuh was part of the "Olduum civilization" (or so the legends say). That was just Aydeewa (which has tower things eerily similar to Pso'Xja and Horutoto) and several other thingies right? Not Alzadaal? Someone has to explain Alzadaal to me again.

EDIT: According to this, Emperor Alzadaal built it 900 years ago? Or was Alzadaal the original Alexander and stuff built in his reign were based on it?

Also, with this whole building a new vessel for Alexander and Luzaf becoming the next rider, the whole things becoming avatars seems more likely.

i was under the impression that when she said that she was referring to the crystals that drop from mobs, not that the energy created gods/avatars

I think that Shantotto said that the ruins in the Aydeewa Subterrane appeared to be older than the Horutoto Ruins. Leading to the question of a race that predated the Zilart and Kuluu...

when someone responds to "that was before the 5 races were created" with "he was an olduum", race is implied. thanks for playing.

and whoever said the dark protocrystal was shown during tuning out is wrong. it's mentioned, but it's never shown aside from the lake where it apparently rests.
