Weapon question for war

Even without sword merits, I have to wonder if sword/sword wouldn't be so bad at 70. Speaking of Vorpals, I hit a really ridiculous 1160something on tigers in Bhaflau at like 63 the other day, with no 2 hour, which was far higher than I'd seen with my Rampages.. I was bloodsword/tungi then, rather than the other way around. Company/Joy might not be so bad at all til you have yourself a nice mainhand axe to use, 70+.

Though as for another axe option, how much is Kriegsbeil on your server? On Bahamut it's been around a mil-ish, sometimes below sometimes above.. Really good dmg for its delay, too. If Sonomaa weren't letting me borrow his Juggy at 70, I might have been mainhanding the Kriegs.

Acha D'Amas or if you're a resident of San D'Oria Reserve Captain's Pick is also a good alternative.

Overall I really wouldn't be too concerned about upgrading unless it's heavily affecting your performance.

Im not a fan of vorpal blade :/ seems a lot more inconsistent than Rampage...

But as was pointed out DOT > all....

And with 8 sword merits your vorpals/rampages at that level should be close

Had couple friends in my LS in same situation as you. Both used company/joy until maneater, and were quite happy with it. Don't think even Acha d'Armas or Tabarzin will be better then company.

What about perdu hanger mainhand, offhand joyeuse for those that have sword merits with no room for axe? With 21 sword skill from merits and suppa, sword would cap 2 points higher.

At first I thought it would be stupid, just stick to maneater for rampage, but the hanger has higher DPS and 51 less delay, which is pretty big.

Probably 6 of one, half dozen the other. Definitely worth a look for those of us who don't have room to merit Axe. I plan on keeping myself at 8 Sword 4 Shield for PLD, so I guess it's time for me to start doing Assaults again...

I just hit 73 myself so I went through figuring out what works best too.

Up to 70 I used random axes / blood sword then espadon +1
At 70 I switched to 2 Rune Axes and used refresh sanction, if you have sword merits probably better off with a sword.
At 71 I switched to Tabarzins.
72 Wood / Tabar
73 Wood / Man to 75

Since you have joy I would recommend
70 Rune / Joy with refresh sanction
71 Tabar / Joy
72 Wood / Joy
Some use Man / Joy at 73 for the extra acc, but you can stick to Woody.

Since youre lvl 70, its not worth fighting the NM for Acha since really itll only be good for another level, I kinda think Rune is a bit better anyway.

Is Sword/Sword really an Option for War at 75 if he/she don't have Ridill?

I've been thinking of Leveling War as my next job, but My Combat Merits are Spent and Axe merits simply wont be an option for me unless SE raises the Cap in that. I'm am 4/4/4 At the moment with Dagger/Sword/Shield. It might hurt a Bit to Pull those 4 dagger merits but if it makes Sword/Sword an Option for War I'd bite that bullet. I Also have Fort. Torque so I'd have 278 Sword Skill at 75

It's not as bad as people make it out to be, but because Company Sword is outclassed by the 3 main Axes, they still have the edge. I'd imagine, though, that the difference is small enough that it really wouldn't make or break you. Like I said, with merits, Company was on par with or better than Tabarzin, which would put it right behind Woodville's Axe in terms of usefulness in merit pts.

However, if Perdu Hanger proves to be better than Company Sword (judging by the stats, it should be) then Sword/Sword becomes a very viable option for those of us PLDs-gone-WAR.
