    DNS Server Error??

Looking for a little help on this situation with my internet the last couple of days.

    Here's the deal:

I have DSL that is hooked up through a Microsoft Router (I know not the best but it's been working fine for almost a year now).

I have my PS2, Laptop, and PC Hard Wired into the router and have 1 laptop that is wireless.

When I am hooked up through the router my connection is horribly slow.....to the point it won't even connect to the page. I say I'm connected b/c my little internet connection window says it is.....

Now I tried unplugging everything.......waiting 10 minutes......plugging it back in. Nothing.

So I just plugged the computer directly into the modem. Computer internet works fine when directly connected to the modem.

So I unplugged the PC internet and plugged my PS2 directly into the Modem. It still won't work. I am getting an Error that says something to the effect of "DNS Server Could Not Be Reached".

I'm not really sure if there is anything else I can do to attempt to fix it, but I figure I would post here to make sure I covered everything.

with your computer hooked up directly to the modem, open up a command prompt (start -> run... -> "cmd") and type "ipconfig /all". you should see something like this:

make note of the dns servers. leave the window open, then put the router in and connect to its configuration page. consult your router's manual, but usually the router will be at 192.168.0.1 and you'll use your web browser to get to it. make sure the wan settings on the router include your dns servers, and that it has the same (or a similar) ip address that ipconfig reported. if you see something like 169.254.*.* then your router isn't connecting to the network properly.

some routers require further configuration but it sounds like you had it working before... hopefully this fixes it.

Ok I will try that one when I get home.

Will this fix the problem with my Ps2 though? I plugged the ps2 directly into the modem and got the DNS Server Message as well. I've never messed around with the settings on the PS2. I'm going to grab my brothers console and plug it in and see if I'm getting the same error.

    Thanks again for the help
