I usually just stick to /rdm but there are some times when /whm is needed, like Ouryu bc or Salvage. Faf isn't a big deal since we usually have whm but in bcs and stuff healers are limited and you gotta suck it up and help out healing sometimes.

And lol at anyone that got the MB earring.

It's mostly because I can't post in ffxi advanced/newbie without him coming in with "level whm dur-hur" every single time I make a post regardless of what it's about.

No. I will not level it. Ever. Get over it. Leave me alone. You are a stalker.

And yes, if you never magic burst, Static is useless. Magnetic is too. They're both useless if you do not magic burst.
If you are a career BLM and don't plan on playing anything else, pick static. I agree. Seriously though, you are a noob for not leveling whm.
Oh noes I can't use teh paralyna!
Gotta love how swinging dick /RDM BLM fall to their knees so fast from an itty bitty paralyze or virus.

I use /RDM on a lot of things, but mainly for fast cast (I do a lot of soloing on BLM). But if I'm going to be in a BC or even at an event where there are going to be WHM, it's just more beneficial to be able to heal up the PT your in after a harsh aoe.

RDM Generally level WHM, DRK, NIN, BLM, BLU for subjobs

Ok, maybe the blu is personal preference but it is my new fav for situations where I dont need NIN.

I dont think i've ever heard a RDM complain when asked to level up DRk for a subjob, or any of the others. I have heard a lot of "Oh gosh I hate leveling it, but I need its utility"

Back on topic. Much like the DM earring or CoP ring. Its a personal choice that unfortunatly you cannot go back on. You will have to think about what jobs you have, and want to level and pick what fits you best.

Though there really should be some mithra NPC that "collects strange shiny things" and lets you (for a small fee) trade an item you have to borrow one from her collection (aka gil + old item -> ability to pick a different one)

Top reasons /rdm onry blm's give against /whm

    1) Auto regen screws up my Sorc Ring gear swap macro for activation

    2) No Phalanx or Gravity

    3) It's not my job to cure people or debuff their negative statuses

    4) I lose my Fast Cast

Rebuttals: 1) Boohoo 2) competent rdm in your party/ally should be doing this 3) tell that to a smn who subs whm all the time at hnm's etc and still helps out with these things 4) boohoo

This is all in relation to team related events, for soloing its a no brainer /rdm triumphs over /whm.

quick question... the hollow earring says "sword enhancement spell dmg +3" does it really only apply to enspells when using a sword? Would be helpful if it was dagger too =/

You saying "boohoo" is basically you saying "Yes, you have a legitamate point there, but I have nothing to rebut it with so I'm going to make a crying sound."

Not that I'm for people not having their /WHM leveled, but basically that's what you're doing.

The ring thing I can understand but most of the reasons BLM's want to sub RDM seem to be more applicable to soloing and not alliance work.

Way I see it, if a different subjob gets the job done for your 17 other shellmates then a couple of hours /WHM won't kill you. If we don't need you /WHM then fair enough but it amazes me how insular some BLMs are.

Boo hoo hoo. Plus some fights you dont even want to be in yellow cause of AOE danger.

And? Gravity is great for soloing but on what HNM can you land gravity on that you wouldnt have rdm to do it. And Phalanx oh boy, taking off 12 dmg from HNM aoe attacks is so freaking awesome. I bet the magic defense boost from /whm takes off more then 12 dmg from HNM aoes.

Have you ever done Ouryu before? He spams aoe dmg and slow. His spam easily takes off sskin, doing alot of dmg and slows everyone. Do you really expect the whm or /whm to erase every single person as well as cure everyone? It's 500x easier to just dseal curaga2 everyone and erase yourself then wait on someone to do it. Quit being such a little bitch.

yea, the hollow gives +3 reguardless to what weapon you are using, just like the description on the lvl50 jse ring.

LOL. Quite the opposite, I've never once regretted it. The point of my comment about the current painful state of your ruptured sphincter is that you seem quite ridiculously overzealous in your crass degradation of anyone with a dissenting opinion from yours. I would have nothing but respect for someone who was able and willing to voice their perspective on an issue in a logical and coherent manner, even if ultimately I disagreed with them. However, simply resorting to "you are a fucking moron if you did so-and-so", in place of something more constructive, does not tend to paint one's intelligence in much of a admirable light.
    noooo, you were sooo close....

/RDM gives more INT! That's my #1 reason for subbing it!

    Oh wai-

    SMN anyone? :>

I refuse to use Sorc Ring, I mostly hate BLMs who use it. I end up with a party of 5/6 BLMs in my alliance in Dynamis all screaming at me when I cure them (I am usually WHM) and who all die from one Hecatomb Wave or whatever, and wasting my MP because I am sorry I don't keep a list of who wears the dumb ring and make sure not to cure them... hey, awesome nuke there! Way to go and get hate and get smacked down in a hit because you were at like 50% HP already (this not even just in Dynamis... I recall a *hume* BLM dying like 4x in one burn PT because of the stupid ring...).... CURSES SORC RING, CURSES.

    Meh.

I've gone /RDM, /WHM, /NIN, /WAR as BLM to various events. The point is to be adaptable for your group's needs, instead of making everyone adapt to you all the time. Fuck, if I had a choice I'd go /WHM only because it'd save me an inventory slot... I get 2 more MND from /WHM than /RDM and I have to carry a piece for max Stoneskin that I wouldn't need with /WHM!

    :D

    Blm/War for claiming!!!

<3 the Blm/Rdms that spam (and I mean.. SPAM) Gravity and build a mob's resistence to it really fast... headdesk.

Edit: Funny how far off course this thread has gotten... It would honestly be nice if one could test out one-time-choice-items like this before actually choosing. I think those that have mentioned that they have yet to make a choice until a job/situation comes up where one would appear to pop out at themare probably making the best choice.

If you aren't sure you don't have to go ahead and pick one right away, and better to get one that you will for sure use (and I think all of them have their own untility depending on what you do in the game).

sorc ring is great, it rocks my taru world.

it's really meh before you can self-activate the latents via HP>MP gear swapping though, b/c it means you have to A: get hit w/o buffs, and then B: keep it there after you get hit w/o your buffs.

The first is easy, but the second is very blah. This is very blah b/c, and I'm sorry BLMs, you're not going to over-ride 75 levels (+merits) of healer instinct for -5 INT +10 MAB.

    __
If you can't wear the ring w/o self-proc'ing the latent, dont' get frustrated w/ the healers and backup healers doing their job. You're going to get curaga'd if there's AoE spammage, even if they remember to not single-target cure you. It's gonna happen, so work on gear that will help you self-proc.

Also, if you already CAN self-proc but are subbing RDM b/c you won't 'tick back out of your ring' you need to think about getting another 10 or 20 HP>MP, b/c I use my ring all the time BLM/WHM, b/c I've got 12 ticks of ticks before I'm out of latent. After I hit the MB, I drain the target to fill my HP back up, and then swap out the gear before the next MB. Best of both worlds.

If the rdms can't handle gravs and dispels, then something is wrong. I understand if it is a small group however, just pointing out it is a situational sub. More often then not, me erasing and paralynaing people helps more and I can't tell you how many times having curaga has saved lives.

/RDM is good to have but it's really just situational.

No really, a good career blm will have both (and possibly even /nin as well) and bring the appropriate sub for a given situation.
Um.. yea that was sorta my point. I didn't say /rdm was better. Just that in my day to day activities I am usually /rdm. I said /whm is still a good sub. Wasn't trying to pick a side on that, guess I should have put more baout /rdm being situational too.

I am a firm believer in having all subs that you can use. Versatility > anything else.

Sroc ring is such a pain in the butt imo. I sold mine way back when for like 2M, after buying it for like 50k before people knew how to use it. I'm a good BLM but I'm not a career BLM.

Kerb probably goes about saying things the wrong way but whether anyone likes it or not, statistically speaking or speaking from a one-job view, he's 100% right almost all the time.

    1) You should barely ever use Sorc Ring. Period. The only reason for a Sorc ring is for an epeen burst which I still like to do from time to time just for shock value of everyone around me in awe.

    2) Phalanx is gewd, grav is good, but a RDM should be handling the latter.

    3) Uh... sorry to the alla-agree'ers here but this is seriously true. If your healers or healing group is seriously that retarded that they can't take care of status effects or Curagas then you don't deserve to be fighting the monster you're facing. Don't bring up Ouryu because we manaburn that bitch all the time and our healers never seem to have trouble keeping up with Erase/Haste/buffs.

    4) Noticeable over long periods of time if you're casting in a close window of time.

One more thing. I don't know why the main arguement for /whm is "curing ability". BLMs really shouldn't be curing to begin with, but in the case that you need a cure, /rdm has cures too y'know...

Back to the OP, Static is good for BLMs. Period. Magnetic is for more rounded characters who play multiple MP-use jobs or jobs who worry about MP. Taru do not have this issue so we choose Static. If you don't choose static, you have forever and irreparably capped the amount of damage you're capable of doing. I don't know about other LSs on here but sometimes we use SCs to get a little more out of our time-kills and MBs are essential to completing that.

If he's 100% right almost all the time, then why is he run off the forums practically every time he makes a post?

This thread has open my eyes to seeing that we need some kind of catch phrase that end threads like this early on. Like "Pics or it didn't happen".

    "Shit is situational".
