Kinda hard to take the high road if your alumni have no problem selling their accounts and the shit you got for them. Just like there's no gilsellers without gilbuyers, there's no account buyers w/o account sellers. Just saying.BG as a linkshell has a very firm set of beliefs ... and maybe stop buying BG characters
Still amusing as hell to see people reviled for breaking the TOS by buying characters but not for selling them. One of my favorite parts of FFXI's end game to be sure.
Edit: Damnit Beckwin, get out of my head. Ninja'd nicely right there.
Stated many times before, but it appears that people choose to be passive ignorant. So, just for you people:Originally Posted by Beckwin

As Sendoh pointed out not 1 page ago, the account belongs to an individual, not the LS. Rules of BG strictly forbid RMT activity and botting and if a member was discovered to have had these involvements, their pearl would be broken. At that point, BG's responsibility ends. You can enforce rules within a controlled group but when a member leaves that group by choice or otherwise, then they are no longer bound by it's rules and so-forth.
Am I being stupid in thinking people actually don't get that or ....![]()
Never underestimate people's ability to remain ignorant.
the RMT process is basically equivalent yes, but you're missing a major difference. people mostly disagree with the RMT process based on principle. in practice, this doesn't affect that many people.Originally Posted by Beckwin
the major irritation of gilsellers is in the actions they take while accumulating the gil to sell. this is part of gilsellers that make them a major target for everyone.
Washing your hands of something to clear your conscience doesn't mean that everyone else is gonna see it the same way. If the ideals were so firm, I'd doubt there would be this seemingly sizable problem of retired BG accounts being bought by competing shells. Just an outsider perspective, so take it for what you will.
Also, notice how this shell Government publicly announces the same policy as BG does regarding cheating/rmt- pearl crushing. What's to decide who gets to legitly sit on the high horse? (In)frequency of claiming?
Speaking in general terms now- Endgame is a dirty place and no shell is entirely clean, so I see a certain level of hypocrisy when people sling around "botter!" and "gilbuyer!" everytime they get outclaimed. And ffs, don't call a GM everytime you get outclaimed, you just look like a bitch tbh. If you see blatant griefing/mpk or cheating (pos/flee hack, teleport claim or w/e) then by all means go for it, but if the GM isn't jailing the guy after the first few times he claims in Aery, he isn't gonna get jailed the 10th time.

So, yes, I have a very clear conscience about the shell and it's members.
But what your implying is moronic. You actually imply that 'some people' expect us to get the rl name and address of every ex-member, pay them a visit stating out-of LS RL rules of their account. Please. Grow a cell.
And even for defense to those that did sell their account - they gained, not lost. It's a fantasy game that generally they quit to move onto more RL commitments and such with a character that they are leaving to be deleted after 3 months. If an individual 'hassles' them into selling their account for thousands of dollars the i'm certainly not gonna give them shit about selling it. They didn't go out of their way to list it on some RMT site.
I wish SE would stop bragging about all the gil they're removing from circulation... It's nice to be getting rid of the RMT and all, but it's really starting to hurt the economy with all this money disappearing...
Is that a Chiz quote? I'm guessing you know how TA works so that's kind of an unfair comparison, but every high-horse uses that line. I don't know/interact with your LS personally, so I'm not going to try or be able to give any examples to counter your claim.I have a very firm belief that no one in my LS has any involvment with RMT or Game Cheats.
I'm not trying to take the high ground on account selling either- I can understand doing it and no, it's not your job to police it (the only thing that irks me about account selling is if the person got a Retirement Coat/<insert phat lewt> within a month or two before quitting and selling, but I don't really lose sleep over it). I'm only commenting on appearances here, and when one of your guys talks about BG's "high standards" then tells another shell to stop buying "BG chars", it looks a little funny.
Your gained-not-lost argument needs a little work though, because it can be applied to casual gilselling. Would you have a problem with a successful crafter who sold a few mil every month to pay the subscription fee? Or maybe upgrade his gaming rig? I'd tend to think so.

That's the way it is. To SE it's illegal as to any country producing your own money is. Of course it effects FFXI on a much larger scale, but, they can't just throw the "dirty gil" in the pockets of Joe Smoe.Originally Posted by Pyree

I made that statement as a very personal one. As I stated, some people believe every linkshell has RMT active etc people whereas I personally don't. I have more belief in people than that. That being said, i'm not completely unrealistic and blind, but I generally need to witness something or see strong imcriminating evidence before i'll think otherwise.Originally Posted by Beckwin
I can see where your coming from and I guess looking at it like that it did make me grin. The only reason I can really assume "BG chars" is used more on these forums is because we notice BG chars that have been bought more than we do with other characters, so we kinda imply they only buy BG chars which really isn't the case. In an ideal world we'd hold onto all our members and even let them expire to never be used in any other ls, but that's beyond our control. It would be a completely different kettle of fish however if a member left by choice to join another ls.Originally Posted by Beckwin
Hmmm, you've got me there. I had a reply already typed out but thinking harder into it I don't know if I would or not. What makes RMT a hostile subject in this game is the fact that every possible mob that drops an item of any value is attempted claim by any dirty method possible by Gilfarmers, cockblocking legitimate players who actually need the item/gil. People buying this gil indirectly support this kind of activity.Originally Posted by Beckwin
Someone I knew a while back, who I spoke to off game actually did reverse RMT gil for something irl. Did I have a problem with it? It took me some time to bring myself to speak to him again, but he had his reasons for doing it and pretty much had left the game anyway. I think no matter how you involve yourself, the very ideal of any kind of RMT is a sour area, no matter what the reasons might be.

I think part of the problem is that you're attempting to associate or merge the will of a person with the will of a collective, when in reality the two beings are disassociated. Sure, you have times where particular parts are aligned, but that does not serve as a contradictory case because it's only a match in ideals, thoughts, what have you. It's not a 100% merge.I'm not trying to take the high ground on account selling either- I can understand doing it and no, it's not your job to police it (the only thing that irks me about account selling is if the person got a Retirement Coat/<insert phat lewt> within a month or two before quitting and selling, but I don't really lose sleep over it). I apologize in advance to those of you in BG, but considering you're the first available source I'm going to be using you as the example in commentary. I'll do my best to try not to assert views where there is nothing.
In reality, BG does not own their characters. The same can be said of all Linkshells over their respective members. The individual is the one holding the cards when it comes to the character, not the Linkshell. It doesn't matter if others assisted in a character getting a Relic, or if a character owns a Maat cap, or many upon many cases I don't have the time to list, in the end it comes down to the one person who has that account listed on his credit card at the time.
Of course, with that being said then you get into the argument over morals, ideals, trains of thought, etc. But I would be digressing from the current argument at hand.
What it boils down to is BG can only set the policy as a Linkshell that they will not under any circumstances accept x or tolerate y. But as the individual's priority exceeds the collective's, there's going to be a breakdown somewhere along the way. The best BG could do is tell the person deviating to fuck off and die, and they can do that until their faces turn blue and the banhammer comes out. But when the individual's priority has already become first and foremost, what good is the collective's word? At that point, the collective cannot control the individual. Which is why BG is saying "Stop buying our members," because outside influences are attempting to act as a breaking point to the entire individualist/collective match.
I just hope I made this somewhat clear, I'm still recovering from a good concert the other night.
Note: the author in no way condones or accepts RMT. In fact, he usually prefers to disassociate with those who do. In years upon years of MMOs, he has not sold his characters once. So if you do attempt to twist this, there be fucking dragons. And yes, you will taste good with ketchup.
