Leaving my first job out of college today, been here almost 2 years, going back for my MBA. Never had to quit a job like this before, should be interesting.
I'd appreciate any advice or just wishing me luck!

Are you apprehensive about saying to your boss "hey, I've decided that I want to go back to school and I won't have time for a job and school so I have to give you my 2 weeks notice"?
Punch your boss in the taint.
WTF is a taint?![]()
Quit Half-baked style!
I suppose if I was nervous I could just open that pic and leave it up on my screen, right? That'd solve some of my problems.Originally Posted by Koyuki

Just explain why you're doing it, I doubt they'd get angry at you for leaving the job to go back to school. Hell, they might even offer some kind of help to keep you on if you're a big part of whatever you do.
Just pull a Drew Carrey quitting move.
Go to your bosse's office, and tell him
"Ya know, I always wanted to tell you this, but now's an appropriate time for it:
I hate you, I hate you, I hate you, I hate you, I hate you, I hate you, I hate you, I hate you, I hate you, I hate you, I hate you, I hate you, I hate you, I QUIT!"
Google resignation letters and just keep it to a simple 2 sentences saying that you're putting in your two week notice. Print it out, sign it, hand it to your boss or to HR. The important thing is to not burn any bridges and thank them for employing you.Originally Posted by BarthelloSylph
Beyond that there's nothing you really need to tell them unless you want to.
You'd really suggest a resignation letter?
That seems like a pointless letter. Just go tell them 2 weeks notice, leaving for school, etc.
Just say:
I quit, 'cause dats how niggas roll.
Good luck with your MBA Bart!
Best of luck, I am sure your employer will understand.

why is a letter necessary?
The letter of resignation is more than a professional courtesy, a formality or standard business etiquette. It is a very important step in your career. Your letter will be retained on your personal file at Human Resources.
If you need your current employer as a reference, if you ever reapply or if the company headhunts you, a high quality professional-looking letter of resignation will make a positive impression.

I actually gave my 2 weeks notice verbally recently, but this job has nothing to do with my future career anyways.
Yes, HR might even require a letter from you. In most companies, they even do an "exit interview" with you before you leave.
A lot of people work on their MBA while they work full time. If you have a good company, they probably offer some kind a tuition assistance and you can get it paid for.
I'm going to be doing this myself. Good thing they will pay for mine.Originally Posted by Jujubie
Yea mine does too - unfortunately I want to do the full time program, which I think I can get more out of, and the place I want to go is two states away.Originally Posted by Jujubie
Plus there's the whole thing about not wanting to stay at my job.
just dont show up anymore
