And I wouldn't say hate boosts are true of all relic WS. Afterall, I've seen Namas used many times without ever pulling hate. Then again, that's the effect of it, but it proves there isn't some +enmity boosts on all relic WS. Hate was probably just shaky when Mercy Stroke or Blade: Metsu was used. Or, in the case of Mercy Stroke, using SATA with it would have a good chance of generating decent hate, but not simply because its Mercy Stroke. As far as Blade: Metsu, since any NIN at an HNM fight is going to be tanking, anyway, they're going to be close to the top of the hate list at any given time so it'd be easy to pull hate with almost anything.

But there is one really easy definitive way to test it.

Sometime mid-late fight at an HNM where the tank has had a long time to build hate, send a Kikoku NIN who hasn't previously been involved to do a single Blade: Metsu (with TP gained off adds) and see if he all of a sudden pulls hate. If he does, then its proven the effect exists, if he doesn't, then its proven that the effect doesn't exist.

yes, that's a viable way to test it.

however, you could just listen to the two people on this thread who have kikoku (me and stellar) and say it doesn't work.

I never pull hate, because my mercy strokes are always trick attacked

I SA+TA+Hide+AC+Mercy onto a WHM who pulled out a club and started meleeing. His reply "OMG ur so crazy lol" and spammed c5 on himself and never died, despite tanking the rest of the fight.

I make it my business to ta + mercy (with ac if up) on one of our wars when he's berserk dd'ing not expecting to tank. 5 seconds later its usually WTF WHERE WERE THE CURES?!?! lol.

I make it my business to take hate whenever I can. Because I'm the safest tank in a merit pt (and most smaller HNM's/IT mobs I'd be taking hate on) and I want to cap my parry (so I'm an even safer tank). I TA occasionally sure, like taru melee, those things shouldn't exist, so I TA+WS them, but I'd rather help than hurt most of the time

I can attest for using a relic weapon skill (mercy stroke) and gaining a boost in hate (even if the damage is incredibly low).
usually after a weak weapon skill, and an attack or two, i have hate on any specific mob regardless of previous hate, on most any mob (excluding most HNM i've foughten.)
not sure how to explain it any better than that.

i used to have fun stealing hate with sneak + mercy stroke on hnm until cerberus flailed me twice in a row (lived the first one, wasnt as lucky the second) after that I promptly changed my sneak merits to all trick (now i enjoy mpking our main war instead by sticking hate on him when he isnt expecting it :D

my story goes i used to have fun stealing hate with sneak + mercy stroke on hnm until fafnir flailed my ally @1% (we still won, and was probably the funniest thing i have ever witnessed).
I have too also resorted to just using TA most of the time, it's not as high of damage, but it certainly helps the tanks!

as far as MPK'ing unsuspecting people... i only kill our linkshell apps.

also while fighting KH today, i found was actually using SA + Mercy and ended up pulling hate in only like 2 sneak attacks, both followed by trick attacks, and 1 SA Mercy.
maybe hate was loose at the time, maybe not.
i'd still like to believe that some (maybe not all, like namas arrow) relic Ws have more enmity grabbing effects.

Pretty much my reasons too. Nobody else can evade better than we can, if it's a really annoying/heavy mob I'll even throw on my semi eva set (Harness boxers etc).

I've noticed that Catastrophe does have some kind of hate quality to it... I've turned the mob countless times with some weak WS numbers... but I WS with 7-10 enmity, so I always shrug it off.

I tried SA+Metsu on Tiamat once and did like 600ish dmg I think? It was a long time ago.
