    Halp Me (PS3 problems) :(

I'm trying to hook my up PS3 to a SD television, however it doesn't seem to be working. . . I think I've isolated the problem to the PS3 is set to HD.

I don't have any clue how to switch it back without having an HD tv around, so if anyone has a PS3 and can walk me through how to do it without actually seeing the GUI I'd be very grateful.

Try resetting the unit. Why would it be in HD mode anyways, since you're probably hooking it via S vid/composite, it should be smart enough to know it shouldn't be in HD. Did it ever work? How did you isolate it to the HD issue?

I may be going out on a limb, but have you tried reading the manual? It should tell you how to revert to SD mode, if that is the problem.

I did take a look at the manual, however it didn't seem to cover my situation.

However, I did some more looking on google and found out how to fix it

this is an evident problem with the ps3.

The 360 has some sort of manual switch on the outside of the console, whereas with the PS3 you have to do it via the crossmedia bar.

If you are moving from an HD tv to Standard Definition TV, you have to set the resolution down prior to moving units, or you're gonna be stuck with that same scenario.

possibly, I haven't heard or read about one.

Wouldn't that entail being able to see a menu to begin with? or does this trick bypass any menus?

Ok if you have your settings to 1080p and are on a HDTV and move your PS3 to a TV that is SD or something lower ala 720p or 480p you just hold down the power button for 5 seconds

The power button will beep after 5 seconds and it will reset to the signal you have

I had this problem, was using component wires for the PS3 on my HDTV, took the PS3 to my cousins house w/o my wires, and used his basic (PS2)composite wires on his TV. Problem was nothing was showing up, so I just held on the power button (5 seconds) to reset it to the new signal.

When I got back home I just plugged in my Component wires, and just went to the display option and switched it back or if you want can reset the PS3 again.

I'm speaking of reseting the signal, not reset the PS3, OMFG I lost everything! scenario

interesting, so the solution is as simply as holding down the PS button for 5 seconds, lmao

when you turn it on, hold down the reset button. It will reset it to the default SD settings. I assume this is what you mean.
