is there a diff other then the clock speeds between dual core 2 prosessors?
if there is no diff other then clock speed can i just set clock speed to say 2.66? i have a 2.40 atm and program i can use to set clock speed

You need to check the internal clock speed of the CPU's. The clock speed that you see is internal clock speed * multiplier. If the internal clock speed is 133MHz then you're fine since 2.66GHz is a multiple of it. Also, you shouldn't overclock without knowing whether you need to increase the voltage of the power going to other system components.
But really, why overclock?
edited for clarity.
rather overclock it to 2.66 then buy a 2.66 or a 2.93 if its just a matter of changing clock speeds and not of design then overclocking it saves me some cash that i can spend on somthing eles
Also, assuming you're using an E6600, make sure you aren't running your stock cooler if you plan on overclocking. That thing sucks ass. Go buy a third party cooler and keep your stuff from wearing down at light speed. =P
Yeah... overclocking isn't worth it nowadays, imho. You're very rarely waiting for your CPU to do things anyway, unless you encode videos all day.
found this chart only diff i can see is the clock speeds and the 2.93 uses 95w instead of 65 like all the rest do
Intel Core 2 Processors
Frontside bus Frequency L2 cache TDP
Intel Core 2 Extreme X6800 1066 MHz 2.93 GHz 4 MB 95 W
Intel Core 2 Duo E6700 1066 MHz 2.66 GHz 4 MB 65 W
Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 1066 MHz 2.4 GHz 4 MB 65 W
Intel Core 2 Duo E6400 1066 MHz 2.13 GHz 2 MB 65 W
Intel Core 2 Duo E6300 1066 MHz 1.86 GHz 2 MB 65 W
Intel Core 2 Duo E4200 800 MHz 1.6 GHz 2 MB 65 W
so would this mean i can set it to 2.66 or maybe even 2.93 and it will act like the 6700/6800?
iam goin to get an antec 900 case that should take care of any cooling issues waiting till i get the case befor i do anythingOriginally Posted by Epical

How does a case solve your cooling issue with a CPU?
has 2 120mm fans in the front 1 120mm fan on the side 1 120mm fan about wherethe cpu is on the back of the case and a 200mm fan on the top of the caseOriginally Posted by Lost
Oh, I didn't even click that link. When it comes to overclocking, a case fan won't make a difference. Sure it'll keep your ambient temperatues down, but you're going to want a solid cooling system ON your CPU. Personally, I use a Scythe Ninja with AS5 thermal paste. Works wonders. Zalman VF-900 on my X1950, too. Independent cooling is that important. =\
I use ZALMAN CNPS9500 on mine. I like it a lot and cools the CPU nicely. Kinda a bitch to install though...
Yeah overclocking your CPU will make it seem like a 6700 though it will run hotter, which is why a 3rd party heat sink is important. I would also recommend Arctic Silver 5 for CPU thermal paste, check it up on newegg. I overclocked my AMD X2 from 2.0GHz to 2.4Ghz safely, and it idles at around 29C. I would say go for the overclock if you need it, I mostly needed it for very demanding games. I like all the eyecandy turned up![]()
