Since hitting 18 (legal age for most things in the UK), I've decided I want a tattoo. I'm not entirely sure yet of exactly what I want, but I was hoping BG could help give me some inspiration Initially, I was thinking of getting the Yin-Yang on my left upper arm. I'm not looking towards anything particularly extreme, as I wouldn't like to deface myself for life with something hideous.

Anyways, all suggestions are welcome. Free pr0n for teh winner.

yin yangs, butterflies, chinese symbols (especially if you're not chinese) are all really tacky, cliche, stupid ideas that every 18 year old moron has. If you get a tattoo, make it something really meaningful to you, representating of yourself, and something you will 100% NOT regret for as long as you live. I know very few people who have tattoos that don't regret them 5 years down the road.

To be honest, I've never considered having any text tattoo'd onto me. I think it's pretty hideous, no matter what it says. I'd much prefer a small symbol of some sort.

Is the Yin-Yang tattoo really that common? Maybe it's just where I live, but I've never really seen that tattoo on anybody.

honestly I'm surprised nobody posted this before me.

yin-yang symbol = tacky as hell. Don't get a tattoo based on something you think is cool at the moment.

I'll relay some advice I remember reading in a similar thread here.

Whatever you think you might want to get tatoo'd on you, get a picture of it, print it out, and hang it up somewhere like your fridge, where you'll see it everyday. Leave it there for six months or more. If by the end of that time you aren't sick of seeing it, then you can live with it on you.

Actually I have the best of both worlds, I have text + a few symbols. The text is my first name because I figure I'm always going to love me. Will also help identifying me when I die as long as it's not death by hit in the face with a small space shuttle or some other similar fiery explosion death.
