Man I freakin loved Vagrant Story. I'm not sure how I did it, but in my first playthrough I found an axe that was awesome, and I just kept using it for...well...everything, and I never had any problems with any enemy/boss/family type. It worked on EVERYTHING after enough uses. The only thing it gave me any trouble on was the Vishnu guy in the optional dungeon, had an epic 45 minute fight with that guy. For a long time I was obsessed with filling up the little codex thingy with the bestiary, weapons mastered, weapon skills, etc. Turns out Square invented the Achievement system years before Xbox 360 thought of it.

I remember going through the game and hitting some of the bosses for 1~2 HP each even with the best weapon I can come up with at the time. Glad to see it wasn't because I was maybe 14 at the time and didn't care and it really is like that lol.

I remember muscling through some boss fight (some dragon, I think) only doing 1-2 HP worth of damage. At first I was going to just reset, but I figured "Nah, I'll see how long I can go". And I somehow won. I think I stopped shortly after that point.

The best part of this game was the intro sequence with the bellydancing lady and the accompanying BGM.

just reminded me why I never finished this game. =( loved the atmosphere and story and got pretty far but I hated those situations. Plus switching weapons every room got tedious.

Might have to throw this on the PSP for nostalgia sake

Remember one weapon is good for 2 types of mobs in this game. Don't bother with silver weapons since you won't be able to upgrade them correctly til almost the end. I just had my super spatha bronze/iron weapon with max stats. Pretty much rapes everything.

Is better/easier to max damage towards "race" than to have pierce/blunt/ w/e dmg.

Overall yeah, first play through, I was fighting my wyverms doing only damage from skillbreaker abilities. I think the ones i liked were. Crimson Chain, A Healing one and a double dmg one. Can rack up those 0 and 1's to 20's

I use the silver dagger you get in the first dungeon still and I can't even upgrade it yet. I have it with like +60 to Undead and +30 to Phantom. It honestly is fucking beast even with low damage.

What confuses me is that my Hagane short sword with +65 to Human will swing for 120 a hit on one guy and then the next guy coming down the hall, without prostasia cast on himself, will only take 30 damage a hit.

Is it based on the targets armor too? It's so fucking annoying.

oh yeah forgot about elements and where you actually hit the person. Pretty much once you max a stat is exponential so you still will see "resistance" even at high level. Yeah silver is great for those type of mobs, just a pain in the ass to deal with first play through.

Was anyone else excited when they heard about 2 but it never happened?

A sequel titled Vagrant Story II was revealed at some point before 2003, although the game was apparently scrapped. It was in development by Nintendo for the Nintendo GameCube, with Yoshitaka Amano as the character designer. Ashley was stated to make a reappearance.

I NEVER HEARD ABOUT IT UNTIL NOW FFFFAUGH. Maybe one day. I'd much rather see an updated modern-day sequel based around the original's mechanics instead of a profiting-from-my-nostalgia-DS-thing if it were to ever happen.

Seriously, with FFXII style graphics it would be a better game than any RPG that has come out in 7-8 years. Keep everything the same and just do what they did to that FF7 E3 demo, except for the entire game.

    Fuck that'd be awesome.

Isn't it already on PSN? I remember buying it a while ago, haven't got around to playing it though.

Edit: Can't you just make a EU PSN account if it isn't on the NA one? I know I do that, and I'm sure there are ways to get around the payment.

How would you do payment for an EU account from the US? I don't know much about these things D:

I never really thought about it, since it's usually EU people trying to score off the NA PSN cause the EU PSN doesn't usually get shit, but you could try a virtual credit card? I did that when I bought shit off the NA PSN store for Disgaea 3.

Is there any way to know what mobtype you're fighting against? I had to kill a stone golem looking boss before and had no idea what family it could've belonged to. My weapons all did something like 2 damage to it. Of course I won but would be nice to know in the future without having to guess.

When you engage it'll say like "EDG/PHY/mobtype" for example. So you have to engage it then go to menu and switch weapons.

Oh yeah? That's good to know, didn't even notice. Thanks.

Also, I was wondering if there's something else to it than just the mob family? I mean maybe resistance to some type of damage for example? I kinda felt like if I was fighting a stone golem, normal weapons wouldn't work on it even if they have a lot of affinity towards it's family?
