I WANT to like the controller, because apparently it's easier to use macros(between sets, which I don't really do right now), but I trust me hitting Cltr+# on my keyboard faster than scrolling through them.
I shat bricks when I found out I could move on the controller while typing.
well you cant force yourself to use a controller, having to input methods sure helps tho.
At the moment im forcing myself to use keyboard only, since my 360 controller is wireless (and no money for the wireless-usb adaptor) but i dont trust my keyboard skills to to something big or serious.
like genbu >.>;
i like controller better, more maneuverability and easier macro usage
How do macros work on a controller? I never used one for FF.
I think it's just a matter of which one you used first. The system you learned on is generally the one you're going to be most comfortable with. It's all just practice.
^^
Alleya just summed it up the best.
I prefer Controller for movement and actions, but the keyboard is always close by for typing, F-targeting, and faster macro hitting.
The controller does give much smoother movement though, at least for me with dual analog sticks (on PC with a Logitech PS2ish styled controller), because I have one set for movement and one set for camera control (of course) which also helps to have a sweeping view of things around me as I run.
It all depends on what you get used to though most certainly.
The funny thing is that my control setup for FF11 is almost identical to the dafault control setup for FF12. Damn I sure tried to hit L1 to auto-run a lot in FF12 for the first few days...
I've been advocating Keyboard ever since I played this game and started out with it. I have a PS2 controller and used it before, comparing it with keyboard is no match.
Maybe some very great players can do controller+keyboard but 95% of the people I've played with that are on PS2 or PC+controller... they just suck lol.. it actually gets people killed and failing certain events...
Just yesterday night, my friend who uses PS2, got our tanked killed in Limbus 3x, 2/3 times was because she was typing (types slow for one thing, maybe people who play controller=suck at typing because no practice) which takes like 20seconds to type 1 line, then coudln't cure or flash or whatever...
It just sucks imo..
You use the top shoulder trigger buttons. Like for example hold down the left trigger, use the directional pad to scroll through them up or down for the Ctr set. Use the right trigger for the Alt set.Originally Posted by Ichthyos
I use controller. Much easier to me.
Though I do espouse the more reasonable compromise, I have to say, holding down the button and then scrolling through them is a lot slower and harder than simply doing ctrl+1/2/alt+1/2/etc.![]()
There is no alternative to the G15. It's that fucking good.
wireless controller and keyboard FTW
I started on PS2 so when first switching to PC bought an adapter for my controller for my computer as well... after a while I just gave up the controller. I don't like having to use more devices than necessary, which to me is one of the biggest detracters playing WoW for me; you're completely forced to use a mouse, and I just like everything close and convenient.
It's all going to just be a matter of personal opinion based on what you learned to play the game with first as has been said. I started on PC, but hated trying to use the keyboard since it was my first PC game. Shortly after I bought a USB/PS2 controller adapter for the rest of the time I spent on the PC.
When I see people say people with controllers can't play well, it makes me laugh. You do realize that the game was created with controller in mind first and then later ported to the PC and the functions mapped out for the keyboard?
Cycling through macros, opening menus, whatever you need to do can be done effortlessly on both keyboard and controller. I'm faster doing most of my macros than players I know in my LS who use keyboards. So much of it is personal skill over input device.
As for Tulia, maybe the person who got your tank killed didn't have a keyboard and the reason they typed slow is that they were using the controller softkeypad. I dunno, but it isn't terribly hard to set the controller down for a second, and type, and pick it back up if they have a regular keyboard.
I miss my Playstation2 Logitech Netplay Hybrid keyboard/controller. I wish they would make something similar for the 360. That was a such a nice luxury, like the ASCII controller/keyboard for PSO on Gamecube.

Controller is good for dicking around town and getting from point A to point B.
Otherwise, keyboard owns all.

lol, I did see that they are coming out with that. I'm sure people who like to text one another using abbreviations will love the cute Qwerty thing. Personally though, I love the full size keyboard layout..Why can't Logtitech give us a newer Netplay for 360
