You end up resisting elegy alot on BRD. Even so, /nin is so much more effecient in that camp and many other merit camps its not funny. I usually only sub whm if there is another bard pulling and I'm on cure duty. /NIN also lets you be a greedy puller, pulling more than one thing at a time safely. I only like subbing /whm when there's two bards or its something incredibly slow like trolls and really, who merits on trolls.

Reflected Elegy hardly ever lands, and if it does, Erase is 18 MP.
I've been to Nyzul Isle a few times as /WHM (I just finished /NIN yesterday), and although I plan to use /NIN from now on because Utsusemi makes Reflect less of a hassle, /WHM is not really a problem if you have the place to yourself, because pops are close enough that you don't need to constantly have mobs lined up, slept and waiting by your party, but can instead go out and fetch when current one is at half life, or something. If for some reason the mob wasn't dead when I brought back a new one, I'd just blood tank it with Phys. dmg.-%/Defense gear for a few seconds instead of bothering to Lullaby, Galka HP ftw.

How much MP erase costs has absolutely nothing to do with the situation.

Sometimes, the time it takes to stop and cast erase on yourself can make that much of a difference when it comes to keeping the chain alive.

Perhaps, I didn't really find it to be a problem, though.

It's not a problem, but more of a matter of effeciency. Instead of bloodtanking something, you can use shadows. Reflect isnt a problem, you won't need erase, resisted lullaby doesn't soak up mp. Another party moving in? You can afford to be more aggressive with pulling 2-3 lined up without risking a chain break. It's a similar reason that melees sub nin. Instead of holding back for hate, you can just blink it away. Instead of holding back pulls or the speed of pull, you can just cast NI and be on your way.

edit: galka hp or taru hp, it costs the same mp to heal it.

I specifically wrote above that I found /WHM to work out when there's no competition, obviously if you're competing for pulls and need to pull aggressively /NIN will be superior. You don't need to convince me of its virtues.

MP that you'll have if you're /WHM, so I'm not really sure what your point is here.

You can have an empty camp and be perfectly fine with /whm. Until someone decides to camp near you and you need to be more aggressive. How often are Colibri camps or any non demon camps open on your server anyways?

The point of mp is you probably won't always have the MP to cure yourself for pulling. Your MP runs out quickly when you are soaking up 100+ a hit unless you somehow managed to avoid getting hit at all. You mentioned that you just finished up you /nin sub. Try it out, even with an empty camp, I think you'll find like most of us here, that its better for both you and your healer.

I think you're misunderstand my posts to be arguing in favour of /WHM over /NIN when that wasn't my aim at all. My situation was that it took me a while to get /NIN to 37 since I chose to solo/duo because of my Enmity- merits, but I wasn't going to let that stop me from seeking for merit parties on my BRD. I'm only sharing my experience at Nyzul Isle (I've only played BRD there twice, and we had the main Colibri camp to ourselves both times) to show that in some cases, /WHM can work, even if it isn't ideal. Anecdotal evidence, I suppose, nothing more.

PLD/DRK can hold hate, but it ain't ideal either.

Time to make this story interesting. Yesterday I finally twist enough arms to get a merit party together for Atum's BRD. So when we have people, we discuss where to go, the first suggestion was the Greater Colibri camp. So I go out there and see the aforementioned party standing around the middle camp, another party on the lower camp, and Colibri everywhere. I figured that people were waiting for their parties to start, so it wasn't even worth going there. (Guess I was wrong.)

But the good news is that we went to another camp and proceeded to get 15-18k an hour even with a level 67 RDM, 71 BRD, and 69 WAR in the party. And the better news is that Atum dinged 72 and now is supersexyawesome in his Manteel. I must get 75 within two weeks before his one year anniversary.

And this thread reminded me of why I never, ever, ever want to do a pick-up party ever again. Ever.

Atumre just gives the monsters a nasty look and they explode into exp though.

I stay un-anon on BRD because the number and variety of invites is entertaining, but I have never and will never XP with randoms.

Sometimes I think I'll get so bored that I'll take an invite to see what it's like, then I remember threads like this.

I call bullshit on that last line at least before lv 75. I've been leveling my brd in jp primetime alot and almost each and every single last one of the JP was gimp in some way shape or form or unwilling to kick any of the really bad gimps from thier parties.

I'd do pickup NA pts before pickup JP parties because I don't recall the last time I saw Jp's on my server that weren't either totally gimp gear wise, or had no fucking clue what they were doing tactics wise...or both. The whole JP's are so good nonsense should have died like...3 years ago when most people that didn't spend all their time in game trying to shrimp a JP figured out that the game isn't so hard.
