About 6 or 7 years ago I bought the game and got about half-way throught it when I just said fuck it and loaded up some gameshark cheats. I spent 10 hours on the second to last battle to only figure out hes suppose to defeat you. I hated myself for many a moon

But yea awesome game, was fun going around collecting the Dragon Armor :D

Mmm just remembered I still have a perfect condition of Grandia sitting somewhere in my room. I wonder if I should fire that badboy up and kick some ass with Justin and Freya

The best part about this was the hidden crazy version of pong on the "Making of" disc. Used to play it with 3 other friends for hours on end.

    Re: Lunar: SSS

Hearing about Lunar makes me ask this question I've been wondering for a long ass time. Is Lunar Legend for GBA the same game as SSSC or is it a totally different game? I haven't played SSSC yet, but from what I can tell from hearing about town names/characters it seems exactly the same. Was thinking about grabbing SSSC but I don't want to get it if it's basically the same game.

Based off the Saturn (read: PSX) Lunar: SSS, but WD didn't handle the port... I think Atlus did, but I could be wrong.

    Re: Lunar: SSS

They changed stuff in the GBA version from the PSX version. I didn't play too far in the GBA version, but the differences I noticed are that you get Nash almost immediatly; they left out the very first dungeon; they changed the boss and plot in the port town you come to near the beginning of the game; they changed the plot/boss in the ruins you have to go through before heading into Vane. The plot changes they made really were very small things that didn't really impact the overall story at all. There really isn't an over world map either, but that really isn't that important as the PSX version didn't have random encounters on the over world map, which is different from the original Sega Saturn version.

Lunar is one of my most fav classic RPGs. Try Lunar 2 EB, i liked it more than SSSC, both are hard and always requires some kinda of strategy when fighting bosses and such that is sometimes hard to figure it out on a first hand experience. But thats just what most classic RPGs do :D

There was a quality RPG, loved that game. Too bad the follow-ups never really captured the same magic.
forgot the blonde dude's name, but i remember his monotone voice acting... *in a monotone voice* "leeeeeeeeeeeeeen!"

Totally Ninja bumping this as the Lunars are my two favorites.

They were hard, and I loved the 'overly cliched' story. IDK why.

Nall is made of win. and Galleon with that voice, haha.

Did anyone else think that the music that played when you fought Galleon sounded like the cheesey intro music when you go to a Hoytt's Cinema?

Agreed. So simple, yet so fun with multiple players.

On topic, the Lunar series is probably one of my favorites (Only played PS1 and GB ones). Simple gameplay, but it was good.

    Re: Lunar: SSS

I played Lunar: SSS and Lunar: EB when they first came out for Sega CD. I loved them both and picked them up again when they came out for PS1 (also bought a Sega Saturn when Working Designs announced the Saturn version that never came, but...). Lunar: SSSC did tone some things down, though, like what happened to Dragonmaster Dyne. In SSSC he just left after giving Luna to villagers in Burg, but in SSS he was supposedly killed by the Black Dragon when it went insane and Ghaleon hated Althena for making Dyne go fight it.

Ghaleon is tied with Kefka for favorite RPG villians, definitely.

Working Designs also does some pretty amazing translation and voice acting work, in my opinion. I got many of their (RPG-ish) games: Lunar and Lunar 2, Albert Odyssey, Dragon Force, Magic Knight, Rayearth, etc..

After reading reviews on all the choices I decided to play Lunar: Silver Star Story Complete.

I'm about 4 hours into it and I'm a bit disappointed. All the enemies are ridiculously hard. Majority of them can hit for about 1/3 of your HP and your inventory is limited to carrying small amounts of HP/MP recovering items, which are better saved til the Boss 'cos they're much tougher anyway.

Another thing is the characters and the story. It seems to move very fast without giving the player a time to take in what's going on.

Luna just randomly decides to not get on the boat w/ the other two guys and go back home. And is just as quickly persuaded otherwise at the last second.

Then the fat kid decides to randomly stay in the big city and work in a shop.

Does this game offer more than this? Or is it going to continue like it is? From the reviews I hear Luna will be kidnapped, so I'm looking forward to that and hoping it's a good turning point in the game.

But everything above, coupled with the really bad voices just makes me want to play Grandia again. Superior story, voices, battle system.

So, for anyone who has completed Lunar can you tell me if it's worth persevering?

    Many thanks.
you say it's hard now, you should have played the sega cd version. that was game controller breaking hard.
